Re: Should it take 2 years to get a Private? Thank you Sault College. :(

I did my PPL in 8 months at a local flight school (evenings and weekends) at the age of nearly 40. Surely a college can do it quicker with a full time program?

Re: Do you log landings

I only log take-offs and landings for night flying. I barely seem to get enough to stay current these days for night flying. Often requires some circuits before taking friends for a flight.

Re: Medical

I don’t believe you can hold two different medical category certifications at once. You have whichever is printed on the decal in you blue book. The Category 1 medical is good for five years to exercise PPL privileges, or two years after your 40th birthday, whichever is shorter. Cat3 Medical before...

Don't forget you need to search each province separately. If the plane moved from, Albert to Ontario, it might have something registered there.

Re: Owner Maintenance Question

The biggest issue I have purchasing an OM aircraft is having confidence in the last owner who maintained it. I would certainly have some lengthy conversations to get an idea if the work was up to snuff.

Re: Boeing Max.

The answer has nothing to do with outstanding orders or how long a replacement would take to come online. The answer is whether the public will fly on it again. If enough people refuse to book a trip on one the model will be cancelled. If it costs $300 for a ticket from A-B on a Max and $320 on an ...

Re: Door Opening Caused Accident

You're not a Cherokee pilot officially till you've had the door pop open in flight. Non-event, just a bit noisy. There is only 1 way to get it to close again in flight - side slip into the wind and pop the little window open to create suction as you latch it.

I like aircraft where you have a physical indication of gear position. The Arrrow I flew had a mirror, the Comanche I fly has the lever in the cockpit.

Books for Canadore Aircraft Maintenance

My son will be attending Canadore College for the AMT course. Does anyone have or know of someone who may have the required books collecting dust? AMT Airframe Handbook (AMT-8083-31) (V2) Aviation Maintenance Technician: Powerplant Aviation Mechanic Handbook (Part# - ASA-MHB-6) Aircraft Electricity ...

Re: Do you really trust your POH performance numbers

I had the prop redone on the Cherokee - "0" timed. The previous 2 inspections were done signed off by a small AME but it looked pretty rough so I sent to the prop shop. It was worth every penny, and wish I'd done it 3 years previous. I gained 5mph cruise and about 150ft/min climb. I would have saved...

Re: Do you really trust your POH performance numbers

I recently tested myself in a 172 vs book numbers. I was considering going into a fairly short private strip with an obstacle at 1 end on a hot/humid day. I did much better than they experienced in that video with only about 10-15% over book numbers, but the margin was too slim for my comfort and op...

Yes - thank you for giving back to aviation! I joined CASARA right after I had a forced landing. You never know it could be me they are looking for next.

I think the settings are dependent on the version of Android your device runs. No "silent" on my wife's phone but I could turn them off completely.

Re: Are Amber Alerts affecting your flight safety?

My Android is an older version that fortunately does not support these alerts :) My wife's phone had a setting which was hard to find that allowed me to turn off all of these pushed alerts. I wouldn't mind keeping an eye open for an alert I received if it were to be in a non-obnoxious format. I don'...

Re: Lawyer or no lawyer?

The problem with airplanes is you have to search in every province to be absolutely sure there is no lean against it. Generally search the one it is registered in and you should be OK. Maybe if it was recently moved from another province check there. I recall it cost me $20 to do online in Ontario.
