Re: Airplane stuck in the states

I am looking for a ride across the border myself to pickup a vehicle. If anyone is flying down privately or small charter please let me know.

Re: info on layoffs and contract employees I see

Yes there are 2 sides to having your employment terminated, employment standards act & common law. ESA dictates bare (& pathetic) minimums, but under common law you could be eligible for 2-4 weeks of severance per YEAR of employment. There are many factors that could play into this amount. Also keep...

It could easily be done in a Cherokee. They have a handbrake available, in fact mine only had a handbrake and no toe brakes.

Re: Flying to YUL

I think you'll find the worst part of a larger & unfamiliar airport is the ground taxi portion. Once I stopped in the middle of a taxi at a large airport to double check the map (at night too!). The controller called me up and asked if I needed assistance. My response was yes, I'm possibly lost. The...

Just curious. What type of Cherokee? There is a lovely Ontario-based 1980 fixed gear non-turbo Saratoga for sale.
That one's been listed off & on for 6 years now. They even tried to sell shares at one point.

Travel restrictions are oddly for land crossings only. Oddly you can still cross by air or boat without issue! From: https://ca.usembassy.gov/travel-restrictions-fact-sheet/ Q: What will this mean for airline travel and other travel across the border? A: This action does not apply to entry into the ...

Re: Turn That Master Off For a Forced Approach

When I had my forced landing, I was quick to ready the aircraft for landing long before my turn to final. Only issue was I had to turn the master back on to drop the gear. Seeing the 3 green come on with a very suitable field within easy distance was certainly reassuring!

I am not familiar with your particular configuration, but on my Cherokee I was able to make an adapter that locked onto my quick release with a long tube to drain into a bucket.

Re: Owning and Operating a plane

I've owned 1 plane, a modest Cherokee 140 I bought for flight training. I continued to put over 300 hours on it in 3 years after getting my license. Had a blast, flew all over. When I was ready for an upgrade I sold it, then the upgrade never happened. Now I'm planning to go another route and build ...

Gotta like the 10 year passports now. Saves having to do this as often. Maybe try to find a local studio and call / email. They are probably hungry for work.

Re: Owning and Operating a plane

My advice with the current economy would be to wait a month. More people will get to the breaking point of needing to sell with the covid situation. All it takes is 1 major expense and the cost will skyrocket above renting. However you will have the freedom of flying when & wherever you want not wor...

Pilot thought it may have been carb ice. Would be rare for a Cherokee, I only ever had a slight bit of carb ice once in mine on short final. No carb heat required on approach as per POH.

It's not good for airplane engines to sit too long, especially Lycoming. That's my excuse, I had to go burn the moisture out of it today. :)

There was a better video on FB, for sure the prop was still turning as it taxied to the shoulder. Wonder if it could maintain power.

In the mean time, practice forced landings.... Very good advice. I did a presentation for our flying club on this topic, only the recently licensed pilots had practiced any in the past 12 months!! I had one in an airframe which I was very comfortable with and had practiced many many times. It saved...

I was recently going through the logs on a J3C-65. Found a ferry permit dated 1971 to fly it out of YYZ. Could you imagine a Cub lining up there now flying NORDO?
