Vancouver downtown apartment rental vacancies?
I am a Jazz pilot from Ontario looking to move to CYVR for an upgrade. I know the city, (more the airport) but I don't know how or where I should start looking for an apartment/house/live outside the city. With Van house prices being so crazy, are most people who wish to live full time in Vancouver ...

Re: Wasaya, maybe bankrupt?? maybe not..
If I were Exchange Income Corporation, I'd be sending in Perimeter and Bearskin Metros in waives to break into these communities. No brainer. But i'm no CEO... Unless wasaya is looking for someone who can manage their debt better than a 17y old teenie bobber at the mall with her first ever credit ca...

Re: Distance from airport
The further you get from YYZ, the more reasonable housing values get. So the question is: cost of living vs travel time. Picking a base that is driveable to YYZ if shit hits the fan is the best bet, because commuting by air is getting more and more expensive. YYZ recently introduced a new $25 tax fe...

American Express Platinum card: Benefits vs Cost
Hi guys, After having an AmEx Platinum card for just under a year, I am at the point of renewal. $699 for the Platinum card with the priority pass to all of AmEx and AmEx partner lounges worldwide. Not so much interested in people's personal opinion of the value of the lounge access. What I am curio...

Re: Feb 2016 Equipment Bid
Upgrades to Q400 captain in YYZ AND YYC are in the two and a half to three year seniority range. Pretty amazing. Congratulations to all! RXL where did you get this information? I have never flown with a Q400 Captain less than 6 years at the company or so. It will definitely be getting less though o...

Has SMS led to the downsize of Transport Canada inspectors?
Hi,
Just writing a personal paper on SMS and its effectiveness across Canada for 703 704 and 705 carriers.
How many Transport Canada Aviation inspectors are there right now? Is this less or more proportionally as in decades past?
Thanks for any discussion

Passenger bluetooth devices on your airline
Hi, Doing some research on a new set of over-ear headphones for music. The thing is, I want them to be wireless. What are your feelings about passengers having potentially hundreds of devices on board that have short range radio-frequencies in the form of bluetooth? I have read in a press release fr...

Has the new contract introduced profit sharing into the company? Can Jazz Pilots buy shares internally where the company will match or at least increase # of shares after a time period? Thanks

Re: Situation for Jazz New Hires
Average new hire time is 2000-3000 hours with ATPL's. Most with Multi-turbine Captain time but there are a couple in every class with <2000 hours and no turbine, but at least have them written and PIC time. Hiring is still on-going for foreseeable future. *Talk* has upgrade time pegged at anywhere f...

Re: Situation for Jazz New Hires
Thanks for the responses. At least one bright-side to all this - the 703/704 operators might stay a bit safer as they're able to hold on to some of their more experienced guys who aren't willing to take the hit. Last thing we need is more 1200 hour Captains flying under-maintained IFR aircraft with ...

Re: Employee Standby Travel Line
This call-in system is the biggest farce I have ever experienced when trying to travel, and that is saying something. Busy signal all day?! What is stopping AC from making standby passengers list online and then providing their ID at the check-in gates? Question: Do AC tier 2 carriers like SKY, GGN,...

Situation for Jazz New Hires
So with the new agreement now in full effect, the question the next generation is asking is what this new contract really means for all the replacement pilots being brought in this Winter/Spring. I don't work for the company, but like many (according to the hiring blitz happening) I have the opportu...

Re: Remote Altimeter Setting Solutions
Nothing illegal about having an agent of your company put an altimeter box on his kitchen table, the only catch is making sure its calibration stays current and he or she is trained on how to read it. You also want to make sure the agent has a radio and accompanying licence to legally pass along th...

Remote Altimeter Setting Solutions
Wondering if fellow Northern IFR pilot's had any good suggestions or experience in obtaining an altimeter setting at an aerodrome with remote resources. If there isn't a UNICOM available, technically I'm only good down to my ASA without a local altimeter setting. This can cause serious issues at eve...
