Re: Aircraft Registration Process on Import
I have imported a lot of aircraft but basically smaller Beaver and Cessna types so that B300 may be a different game. Glad to hear that you have someone familiar with the process. Never had one off an OEM maintenance line but your MDM will know all about that. Just imported a 182 that had 2.5 hours ...

Re: Aircraft Registration Process on Import
One way is to do an import is bring it up with US registration but you have gone the other way so lets talk about that. Once you get those reg numbers have those applied to fuselage in the US. Most people use decals for that purpose if they plan to paint on later. Old letters are supposed to be perm...

Re: Flying the beaver
The ones I had showed a marked decrease in CHT's with the reduction of power especially on a very hot day when the temps were running higher. The slower the engine temperature comes up or goes down within reason is the goal for sure. What I always did was make slight reductions in power and starting...

Re: Floatplane Crash Thread
As mentioned above lateral drift when landing due to incorrect or lack of rudder input is the usual cause. I came very close to cartwheeling a 185 some years ago. I was coming back to camp at dark and in a rush to get down I made a low level turn on final and set up for a glassy landing. When I touc...

Re: Beaver Tips
Good you left room for some difference of opinion. First of a all a boat prop is pushing from the back from below the bottom of the boat while on most planes the prop is pulling in the air from the front and way above the water so don't see the comparison other than they are both in the water. Any p...

Re: Floatplane Crash Thread
Have to agree with you on only lifting the downwind side. Put a lot of hours on a 185 on those long 2960's and heavily loaded it was the way we always took off to avoid dragging the heels. Lifting a float really made a difference in the takeoff run on that combination. Not much benefit on a Cub or a...

We are not near the coast but very happy with ours. Handles heavy loads very well. Have 2200's, 3500's and had 3400 amphib Aerocets. All great floats.

Re: How to build an aircraft hangar
When you say 100 X 50 I presume you mean 50 wide? For airplanes the extra width is way better even though it costs more. Had a lot of different ones with all the different kinds of doors. Pole is fine. Power Lift hydraulic doors best but more expensive than slider and need 220 power. Extra height is...

Old prop value
Seems like some prop pros on this forum. Was going to mount this prop on the wall in the lodge up north but it burnt in a forest fire. Too big for the house as its 9 ft long. Appreciate any idea of the value.

Re: Blue Water Aviation plane down North of Winnipeg
As aircraft operators or owners I think the main thing we want to know is what happened and why and how it can be avoided and not wait for years to find out while we fly the same aircraft. I don't have sources that I am prepared to name for their sake but the lower fork end - strut let go. Other str...

Re: Hartzell 3-blade Beaver prop
I would certainly get that prop overhauled. No reason it will need anything major. We had a brand new 3 blade on ours and let it out that we would sooner have a 2 blade and I had multiple calls in no time wanting to buy it outright. So we rethought what we were doing and kept the 3. Had a 2 on a pre...

Re: external load on C172 on floats - porta bote
Second all the previous info. Carried them for thousands of miles on 172, cubs and used to carry one on each side on the 185. I always carried them with the bow forward with a rope to the front cleat and through the front eyes of the boat. A guy had a more flexible thin metal folding boat and was co...

Re: Thinking about plane purchase
172 with 180 engine is a great place to get started. Easier to qualify for and cheaper insurance, no fuel bladders, 2000 TBO, less fuel, safer while gaining experience. Started my float career with a 180 and couldn't afford so switched back to 172. Half the overall annual cost in my case. Gained a l...

Re: What about go arounds
It was a 1700 ft cross wind strip not used for takeoff but just for landing in the unpredictable winds there. There is a windsock at each end of the main runway and quite often they are flying in different directions. Winds can change direction there in the time it takes to do a circuit and can go f...

Re: What about go arounds
Guess I should clarify that I was talking more about go around in the final landing phase when ready to touch down not from just lower altitudes. As far as our friends go I don't really know how they got that far down the runway without getting airborne again. The airport is at 7000 ft in Colorado a...

What about go arounds
Couple of months ago two friends of ours at our air park were coming in to land in an RV7 in a high wind and initially touched down very hard but didn't collapse the gear. They attempted a go around but never really got fully airborne in the remaining runway, cleared the road at the end of the runwa...

The type certificate for the Beaver has provisions for carrying certain external loads but not with passengers on board where some of the STC's do.
