Re: 79 Airplanes Retired
So am I correct in understanding that any RP will not be entitled to a RIR because any position they move to is an upgraded position? Therefore, even if the company offered the RP position in the future, the original RPs would have to no RP CR except UR CR to make the move back? This would open it ...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
With the massive amount of pilots being hired all at the same time recently (especially young guys in their 20's), would it still be worth pursuing Air Canada if meeting the requirements is still about 3-5 years away? I kind of feel like I missed the boat and seniority is going to be the bane of my...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
go to Transat instead and get paid 55 760 $/69 535 $/$ 82 610 $/89 898 $ (plus almost all the same extras) the first 4 years and then wait for AC. That doesn't really seem much better. Does Transat have profit sharing too? That's how people are making $70k in their first year at AC. Hoping for more...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
1. The first thing I said was it's too low. 2. I said more "like" which is an epistemic modality that signals to the reader a lesser degree of certainty in the exactness of my number. 3. These aren't the income amounts people are making. I don't know how to communicate that to you any more effectiv...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
You can call bullshit, but you'd be wrong. AC isn't filling up their classes with these types, but there are a handful of Captains from foreign carriers joining, and a pile of FOs. There was at least one Captain from Emirates, for sure, also one from Etihad... I don't think there were any Captains ...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Sounds corny but you get more than just pay working as an FO, you get experience. Sure you learn while you're an RP too but it's a far cry from actually doing it. FO experience helps you be a Captain. RP experience helps you be an FO, if you need it. You mentioned some of these people being former ...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Could anyone please explain why someone would willfully take the FO position, making the same or less than the Rp sitting behind with a better lifestyle and schedule?

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Make your millions flying overseas, come back to Canada to spend some time with family. Buy the house with cash and get a crap paying job to keep entertained until retirement in a couple years. They did. And that job is pilot at Air Canada. Going back to my response, to spend time with your f...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
There are 777 Captains joining AC these days as new hires. I don't think they are worried about the extra responsibility of being 787 FO. If anything some people probably prefer to be flying instead of being a ride along. Wouldn’t these “777 Captains” (how many have you seen hired?) prefer a nice s...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
I would bid back to the RP as soon as possible if I was in that position...no way I would take that extra responsibility, worse schedule/vacation, missing holidays at home for the same pay as the guy sitting behind me. If this happened with every new hire put in the 87/77 right seat I think that wou...

Re: DOH merge.
Thank you altiplano. +1 Top position at each company is different, and therefore career progression at each company is different all the way down the list. If I came from AT and a bunch of AC pilots who were hired after me were ahead of me, I don’t think I could be justifiably upset. Yes, if I was a...

Re: DOH merge.
I would personally be happy with DOH at 50% (10 turns to 5 years, 4 to 2 years). Yes, you could argue that AC and United or AA are national carriers and we should this come over straight DOH or ratio, but their salary, benefits and opportunities are far superior. This would be enough to make me happ...

Aviation Industry Forecast
Hello, I'm looking to find links that would include short term and long term forecasts for the aviation/airline industry. I've had trouble finding relevant data that is up to date and with a Canadian connection. So far the most recent information I have found from TC is from 2009. All input is appre...
