Re: WestJet Sunwing merger and seniority
Most WJ pilots want SW bottom of the list, which is what it should be. End of the day SW will be under WJ banner... bottom of the list yo. I have only met one person at WestJet that says/thinks SWG pilots should be BOTL and that guy was a flow-er (encore lol). I hear Encore guys/gals talking about ...

Re: AIP is dogshit
So far, I like what I see with this AIP. For those who aren't at WJ, I'd tell you that you probably don't have all the facts and I'm not sure why you think you're the voice of reason here. I don't really care what a pilot from another ALPA carrier.....or any carrier thinks. Be safe out there. I am ...

Re: Agreement in Principle reached
Looks more like a joke than a rumor. 25% increase for first year FO and 66% for first year captain. Even JT's math doesn't come up with an average of 15% on that Where are you getting that information??? First I heard of this, are you Bernie, Chris or Negots team? edit: Also there is no first year ...

Re: AIP is dogshit
You need to look at this CA in it's entirety and you're only looking at pay rates. This checks off all the highest priorities that we wanted (higher take home pay, scope provisions, etc). The argument was always that we have good T4 income, but our take home pay sucks. Now you're playing a bait and...

Re: Agreement in Principle reached
I think a HUGE thing that maybe some are missing is scope. We just got practically exactly what the group(s) wanted which was most definitely the number one cost. Now, obviously we have to see what the language clean up statement means as I think language is the most important thing for us since Kap...

Re: Random Phone Call
Been here for a bit, like everywhere, it has its ups and downs. Overall I'd say its pretty darn good, getting direct into WestJet is the way to go. There are a lot of negative people here like someone already said, just do your job while not being a dick and as soon as you walk off the airplane wher...

Re: How long to get YYC base
We are going the seniority bidding route. Come February 1st about 300 or so pilots at WestJet will be bidding GDOs by seniority and working 18 days a month LOL. Swoop is also seniority bidding I believe, people just generally lie to themselves here by saying it'll never happen. So about one fifth of...

Re: How long to get YYC base
I know we're off topic here from the original question but still pertains to the Westjet group I guess. A full rebid, no way it happens, 737 captains at Westjet aren't going to be able to bump 787 FOs out IF they wanted. YYZ peeps won't be bumping more junior YYC caps/fos and vice versa, Encore flow...

Re: How long to get YYC base
Greasy greaser, you said that Westjet might get rid of LOU2 the swoop stuff….. if that happens what will they do with the pilots? Will there be a rebid compmay wide? Or will you have capt out of seniority? Interesting that’s for sure It will be interesting and nobody knows the answer for sure right...

Re: Yr 1-3 take home pay
I don't have hard numbers from those years but looking at a straight net number without realizing all the extras (not per diems) is pretty dumb to put it nicely lol. While the take home pay isn't the best (bit of an understatement lol), it really only hurts for the first year while you're accumulati...

Re: How long to get YYC base
Getting off reserve in YYC/YVR is around 7 year mark for FOs assuming encore stays on the list (dare I say), from what I've heard and looking into it a bit. Captains are bit longer on reserve, think its 16 or so years for yyc? YVR cant be too far off that either, not entirely sure; too lazy to look ...

Re: A 10 year WJ FO just went to AC
The company feels like it’s imploding right now, and there’s crickets from management. According to ALPA we lost 31 pilots last month. Yet they think they’re going to be able to hire 400 next year? I’d love to know where they plan on finding them. For sure they’ll have to drop below their 1500 hour...

Have you ever heard an AC pilot come to WJ? The management needs to get their shit together. Yes, before your time. Get off telegram, this isn't ground breaking news with how current working condition are over at WestJet, happened before, relax. I'm assuming you're Encore with how much you post ove...

Yea....Just like everything, especially telegram for those on it; DO NOT listen to most of avCanada. (or telegram) JBI and a few others nailed it, take home pay isn't great the first year but after...if you're half smart with money, you make decent money the first couple of years amount amount at WJ...

Re: Mainline hiring
Seems to me there will be a lot of 737 jobs in Canada coming up. But how many of these pilots can actually make a living? Afford a house? Raise a family? To me there are only 2 options. WJ and AC…no point going capt and making less than people on a 1900! My personal thoughts only! 😂 I'm sorry, what...

Re: Family life: how many overnights?
If im applying to Westjet mainline OTS, how long would it take to get based in Calgary? Depends really, come August, most junior YYC FO will be a date of hire of Jan 2020 (remember Covid slowed things down so Jan 2020 hire is close to bottom of list). We've had a significant amount of bids recently...

Pet peeve: When somebody says "you have to pay your dues... I did," in response to "pay is crap in Canada and I can't afford rent this month." I'm surprised anyone still says this, "paying dues" was okay when you made 7k a month in the 90s flying a single engine haha, now...you'll go further up nor...

Re: Did your YOS accrue during layoff?
WestJet did if you bumped into Encore via the PTA, conditional you took first recall notice back to Mainline when it came. You also accrue YOS at Swoop for WestJet but not the other way around (funny how that works), so people laid off at WestJet and voluntarily took a Swoop spot accrued YOS at West...

Re: WestJet Announcement.
Just can't win here on AvCanada and telegram lol. Expand too much too quickly with shitty service compared to everyone else (current WJ) and you'll get pilots bashing the airline. Slow down at one of the most expensive airports in North America that is oversaturated and understaffed and focus on mor...

Re: Mainline hiring
Hello, Question about new hire getting yyz base, how long will it take approximately to get yvr or yyc transfer ? Thx Pretty quick with the current trend, I'd bet less than a year easily. Pretty sure YVR is only a little more junior than YYC so expect that first. Though with anything and everything...

Re: Canadian housing Prices / Wages
Ah yes. The old “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” trick. So let’s say avocado toast and a latte is $20. $20 a day… every day…. from the day you turned 19.. and you now have a 20% downpayment on a house at age 60. One that the previous owner bought as a high school dropout on a single income. “N...
