Re: Extra 200 or 300L
I think I am a bit confused though, or I misunderstood you. If I read it correctly, you are suggesting the Extra 300L is not an all-around airplane (though does have acceptable x-country capacity in your view), and it would not be your choice to do aerobatics with as well. So how would you define t...

Re: Extra 200 or 300L
I have seen somebody (Brendon?) flying a yellow/white 300L around here. Beautiful aircraft. A bit late to the party, but that's me. (The yellow Extra has gone to a new home in Boundary Bay.) If you've got any questions on the Extra, feel free to PM me and I'll give you my e-mail address; I'm not on...

For Sale - HGU-55 flight helmet for GA use.
Selling an HGU-55 military flight helmet. Grey shell with tinted visor. The helmet has a civilian microphone and speaker set up, so it will work in any general aviation aircraft (an unconverted military HGU-55 won't). Also has super comfort leather liner, coiled cord, and oxygen mask mounts. In well...

Re: Clarity Aloft HS for a twin turbine? Feedback?
I wore nothing but molded hearing protection for a decade with no appreciable hearing loss... Bottom line is get custom molded earplugs for best protection. The increased risk of hearing damage associated with in-ear headsets isn't because they don't provide adequate protection or sound attenuation...

+1. I've flown with Budd and aerobatics isn't his thing. His niche is teaching people how to land a Pitts. I got the feeling he doesn't even enjoy aerobatics. If you actually want to do acro I would not recommend Budd as that is not his forte.

Re: Clarity Aloft HS for a twin turbine? Feedback?
If you're flying frequently, one thing to consider with an in-ear headset is that earbuds, or in-ear headphones, tend to cause more hearing damage than a traditional head set, or over-ear headphones. Google earbuds vs. headphones and hearing loss (or something similar) to learn more. I use a Clarity...

I did an interview with Bud Davison for an article I wrote on the Pitts for an aviation magazine, I'd be happy to share the article and my experiences with the aircraft. Just shoot me a PM with your email address.

Re: overview of the Vancouver GA scene?
If you're interested in aerobatics, you might want to attend a BC Aerobatic Club meeting. I believe the next one is November 7th, 7:00pm at the Delta Air Park. That'll put you in touch with pretty much everyone involved in the Vancouver area aerobatic scene.

Re: Pilot wrist watch, is it a good thing or BS
Whatever you get, make sure it lights up sufficiently to use in the dark. Any watch that doesn't have indiglo or an equivalent feature (light up hands don't count) is a dress watch, and a dress watch isn't a flying watch. It might be an aviation themed dress watch, but it's not a flying watch. I'm a...

Great clip from an F-35 documentary.
Clip of an interview with Pierre Sprey, largely responsible for the design of the F-16 and A-10, talking about the F-35. Before seeing this, I'd heard plenty of criticism of the JSF program with respect to cost over-runs and delays, political issues, etc... but never a reasonable explanation of why ...

Re: Homebuilt aerobatic restriction removal
a question for you - is the RV 4 or 8 the best one's for sport aerobatics that Van's make? I was also wondering about the RV6 or 6a? if they are as capable for sport aerobatics. Not to be confused with competion aerobatics - such as Edge 540 - Extra 300 etc... we are speaking about basic aerobatics...

The guy didn't get rich by making poor choices, and he can certainly afford something newer.

Rent a car and drive up to St. Augustine. Get yourself a tour of Southeast Aero, the Extra dealership there, and buy yourself a ride in an Extra. Less expensive than the Texan and way more fun, I promise  http://www.southeastaero.com/index.php Or you could get yourself a flight with Craig Ford...

Re: 60 turn spin, is it possible?
Did you guys noticed how instead of crossing the control she has the aleron all the way to the direction of rotation? Maybe this has some effect on making the spin less flat? In-spin (or pro-spin) aileron will take you out of the spin (and cause an increase in the rate of rotation on the way to rec...
