Re: VFR Placement Question
The vast majority of ab-initios in EG FIR are placed to YMM, YZF or YXY. You should fully expect YMM or YZF to be extremely likely options, despite your apparent preference to go elsewhere. You should not continue with the application process for VFR if these are not agreeable to you. That's the on...

Re: Training Changes....
Hey Braun , Why dont you think the selection process is up to par? What effect do you think the new referral system will have on the selection and recruitment process? In my opinion the issue is that if someone is dedicated enough it's very hard to tell if they will actually be able to do the job u...

Re: Training Changes....
I've heard from a few sources that trainees will be getting paid at an earlier point during training. However they do not have the details ironed out regarding exactly when or how much, so they are keeping quiet for now. They updated the Take Charge Website. IFR & VFR Phase 1: $30,000 Phase 2: $40,...

Re: Ct'd from the ATC Course
We had someone CT'd within the first 2 months of Generic IFR and they were given an OTS position. We have been briefed in how the training culture at NAVCANADA is 'changing' from the old ways of trainees are scum to friendlier environment which may include second chances if they see value in that. I...

Re: Assessment Dates
Best thing you can do is email the recruitment team - email information is available at the above link - and ask what their plan is as I have found the page to sometimes be out of date.

Re: RVSM Airspace
Also we can't hand off aircraft to another sector with conflicting traffic. If I've got a guy on a climb to 280 (which is usually my last usable FL) who wants to climb into the high sector at FL210 - where the hand-off would normally be initiated - with traffic at 260-280 then I will hit the high co...

Also don't stress out if you don't answer many of the questions. I answered 4-5 of them in the allotted time and passed the assessment.

Re: ITA Questions, and hopefully a little positivity.
For me I feel like the ITA was the most difficult because the testable material was much more expansive than any of the other exams. I had sets of 150-200 que cards for each block during the course, and over 1100 for the entire ITA; one test. The material you get on course becomes more technical and...

Re: ITA Questions, and hopefully a little positivity.
I was wondering if there are anymore review questions for the ITA. It seems the block quizes are shorter with every new block. I don't think there are enough review questions to represent the material. Not only are there very few review questions for the amount of material that the ITA contains, bu...

Re: Your application questions answered - IFR VFR FSS
How long does it take to get your Class 2 Medical results? I have my appointment next week, but I start course in a little over a month. It took me about 4 weeks after the appointment to receive the certificate in the mail, which I was told was average for the first time receiving a license, and th...

Re: Training Changes....
In YEG we are doing something they are calling OJSC, or on the job skills consolidation. With this program you will 'go operational' during your specialty training and go work live traffic in positions you have learned in your sim up to that point, and you begin earning a training salary at this poi...

Re: ITA Questions, and hopefully a little positivity.
I also am starting IFR Generic in 50 ish days. I only received the offer a week ago and have not received my official offer in the mail yet. How much training do you need to do before you go? How long do you spend studying before ever getting there? I am concerned now because I have not looked at t...

Re: ITA Questions, and hopefully a little positivity.
The ITA course is awful and is by far the worst part of the first training phase. The material provided is lacking, sometimes flat out wrong, and there is frankly too much there to be totally comfortable going into the exam. Spend as much time as you can pouring over details, the little things that ...

Re: Your application questions answered - IFR VFR FSS
Just for my own curiosity, what's a typical ITA Training day like? Is it Monday Friday? 7a-4p? Lunch, breaks? Etc. For me anyway the base hours are 7am-3pm with about 45mins for lunch. However, my hours end up being more like 6am-5pm at the ACC (either doing extra sim runs or studying for exams) th...

Re: Your application questions answered - IFR VFR FSS
Oh and I had one more observation. He mentioned that the first course goes from May-Sep. Then the individual speciality course starts from Oct to May and only on completion of THAT are you given the basic contract at a trainee salary. Going for a year without work. That is going to be fun. I did sa...

Re: Your application questions answered - IFR VFR FSS
For the simulator, I think that's exactly what it's being used for. Solely for the purpose of giving candidates a taste of what's in store, so they can do one final "is this for me?" before registering and paying for the class. They said they were doing the sim in february and filling for an IFR co...

Re: Your application questions answered - IFR VFR FSS
My IFR course started with 8, it all depends on the operational requirements for your region; YEG has a decent amount of under staffed specialties so they will slot more people on the Generic course. Also, the 35% success rate doesn't factor in people who voluntarily withdraw from the program so for...

I believe the next YEG IFR class will be in the fall. The current VFR class is set to wrap up mid-March and they may be loading another one to run shortly thereafter.
