Re: August Equip Bid

The equipment bid will be delayed until Sept or possibly later (officially) Is the delay due to the Max issues at AC or with the Georgian pilots coming over or the economy ??? Whats the latest if anybody knows... We were told it was a combination of the ongoing Georgian issue, the late release of t...

Re: What do you do when you think someone should never fly again?

I have flown with two individuals in my career that should never, ever, under any circumstances be allowed command of a transport category aircraft. While they were both incredibly pleasant, friendly and helpful outside of the aircraft. Inside, they were so far behind and so out of touch that even s...

Re: August Equip Bid

Highly unlikely they will open another base. Especially YHZ, but ya just never know any more. As for overnights, thats a difficult one as the schedule changes frequently. I see something different every time I open a monthly bid package these days it seems. I'm going to guess the CRJ and Q from YUL ...

There are no Majors with Halifax bases. Most commute. Used to be a jazz base. I think porter still has a pilot base there too..

Re: AC flow agreement

This is what I heard too. A friend of mine said they can basically count on being called at least twice a day, every day. Once for day stuff, once for the inevitable stand up. I think a lot of people have been putting themselves on the "no call" list. Rowdy, if you don't want to get called at 3AM b...

Re: August Equip Bid

I generally agree with KP, However I think there will be a bit more growth in YVR. I'd be surprised to see any changes to the YYC DH8 base. It fills a very unique niche, especially with the addition of the GGN 1900 flying. Isn't the YYZ Q doing a lot of that eastern flying? or is it mostly YUL? I do...

Re: AC flow agreement

The word I heard was 90 flights cancelled last weekend. I've been called multiple times every day off I've had in July and offered overtime. Without being on the WDO tracker. I finally had to ask to be put on the no call list. How is it legal or right for them to be able to call at 3am on a day off?...

And as far as cancelling flights and stranding passengers, every airline has had its share at one point or another, especially Air Canada, including very recently. This just to add perspective. Now, speculation is easy and here's another! It is rather clear that WestJet group as a whole is worth mo...

Re: What do you do after landing long in a floatplane

Who here has operated in and out of Ahousat? Who has flown a 180 or Beaver in there? Its a unique spot. There are basically two good spots/markers that would have me going around or looking for a quick option to slow down. Even on a few dozen blustery and particularly sporting days over the years, I...

Re: Damaging an engine by turning the prop backwards

How come we only tie the left prop on the Dash and Q400?.. One word and it starts with P. There is enough oil sitting in the gearbox for ample lubrication of everything while it slowly turns at a couple of revolutions per minute if left untied. Interesting how a question posted about piston engines ...

You would only need customs if you land IN the US. If you're just going from CZBB-CYYJ with no landings in the US, you don't need to clear customs.

Re: Flying Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 and Jazz Air / Air Canada Express for the first time

There are few operations at the airline level in Canada that I would not fully and wholly trust. I would say Jazz is at the top for professionalism, safety and maintenance standards. Jazz also has some of the higher experienced pilots in the regional world. Although I may be a bit biased as I work f...

The YYC operation of the 1900 has also come to an end has it not? I see the dash 8's running the majority of those routes now..

So one less plane in YYZ...that will reduce the number of pilots needed in that base.
Thats seriously what you got from this?

It'll be replaced if it is indeed written off. Maybe even by a Q.

Thats pretty decent actually. I've had two instances where I've been called RIGHT before the end of my call out period and flown to the 20hr max from the start of the callout period (although well inside a 14hr duty day). 16 would be much more civil.

Way back when..

I was just a lowly student at Montair in the very very early 2000's (i.e.; 9/11) and they were operating a couple of PC-12's from the south terminal. And at one point a king air 100 and 90.

Who is running the show now? I'm guessing Big A is long since retired?

Re: ATPL flight hours tax question

Can't do it for an ATPL. Solely for an accredited school for the CPL. I got flagged and then audited for trying to write off an ATPL exam prep seminar way back when and then denied.

It also won't pass for an employment expense. There is very little we can use in aviation in terms of write offs.

Re: YYC base destinations

YYC has all three fleet types presently. YVR is now the only base that doesn't have each fleet type. Although this seems to constantly change. In the initial ground school, they will have a pre determined list of aircraft/bases for you to essentially draw straws and bid on, on day two. You kind of g...

I was involved in an accident. I'm honest, open and up front about it. I've now been flying for 17 years and am at an airline. It really is a non issue, so long as you're open about it.
