Re: New hire bids

2020 will be another year of incredible amounts of movement and hiring at Jazz. Assuming the country still has any ATPL's left that want to work here..

Re: Jazz to launch pay for type rating program

The expansion of the PICUS program is a hard sell for me. It solely benefits the company if they don't have to pay LTC's to move their low time, NON ATPL pilots into the left seat or help them off to AC. I'm also heavily against any P2F scheme like the jazz approach. I'm also not a fan of the pathwa...

Re: Jazz to launch pay for type rating program

Vermont, A few corrections. Travel on the air canada network is not free to Jazz pilots. There is a cost, and it's more than you'd think. Its also standby and loads for the last few years have been high. Commuting is a huge pain and I wouldn't recommend it. Base changes do happen fairly quickly, but...

Re: Jazz vs. WestJet comparison: 1 year later

I like how you can tell who works where just from their replies in this thread. So True! I will add this though from my bias. Socialized bidding at Encore may appear better. It might occasionally get you closer to what you want right off the bat.. but it'll never be 'great'. However.. while seniori...

Re: Jazz to launch pay for type rating program

Except they're handcuffed to Jazz for FIVE years! If they dont cut and run for an overseas gig.. I'm sure this will solidify the requirement for DEC. There is nothing on the CAE website about a bond or contract for 5 years. My Correction, CAE and Jazz have signed the partnership for 5 years.

Re: Jazz to launch pay for type rating program

I have to wonder how big the pool is of diploma/degree graduates who have and want to pay $126k for a job. Some solid pre program research? Or just some board room high fiving what they see as a great plan. I would say this program is targeting wealthy immigrant that come from India, China, or midd...

Re: One List

It would be interesting to see that survey by which the MEC created a mandate for itself to renegotiate the one list right after the first vote when it said specifically it wouldn't. Of course it said it to bear pressure on the pilots to pass it. Then it said the pilots "failed" to pass the resolut...

Re: One List

Sounds like a supply and demand problem. Encore is demanding more pilots than the supply is providing at the current price. You said it yourself, Encore pilots are paid below market value (industry average). How does a free market fix that? Increase the price! Give Encore pilots a 30% raise, and th...

Re: Regional Career

35 is kind of a low arbitrary number to choose. Many many new hires well over that age. To each their own of course. But giving up a mainline career with all its blemishes for a regional one is a bad idea. Unless you are totally adverse to giving up the 4th bar go to mainline. 10 times out of 10. W...

Re: Regional Career

I look at it this way.. Under 30? You're a fool if you don't go. Between 30-35, you probably should go. Over 35? Have young children and a family life? Now its time to run the numbers and figure out what exactly you want from the next 5, then 10 and then 20 years of your life. It'll be a tough call....

Re: $90k or higher.

I don't think NT pays that much. JAZZ FO's expect to make 40k in year one. Working 14-16 days a month. Thats the average. The 7 leg days out west are pretty much done. I haven't seen more than 5 legs in a day since the Q took over from the Classic fleet. I can double check, but I'm averaging 4 legs ...

Re: The Ditch in Tofino

Having flown in and out of the 'ditch' at YAZ many times.... Its pretty straight forward. A bit narrow for some I guess. But any competent pilot should be able to land a 180/185 or beaver in there on a day with reasonable winds. I cant remember exactly, but we sort of had an unwritten limit on cross...

We have transitioned to an EFB (electronic flight bag) via an iPad mini. All the manuals and publications are now loaded to it. As far as flight bags go, there are may options, ranging from some of the satchels/etc you can get at walmart/staples up to nice professional leather pilot cases. All depen...

Re: Jazz YHZ Base Rumours

The -100's are going to YYC to cover the ex-ggn 1900 routes. There is a significant amount of Q400 flying into and out of YHZ. The lack of bid and memo that came out said that they were NOT opening a yhz base. Its a lot of work and cost to do that if its not going to last. I wondered what they were ...

Re: Numbers on how many the regionals are hiring?

I think your numbers are a bit overly optimistic. Although 500 retirements at Jazz in the next 5 years would be nice, I think it will be less than half that. The retirement numbers are never accurate from the list due to some taking the ERP. Here’s the #s I got from the alpa retirement section: Pil...

Re: Numbers on how many the regionals are hiring?

I think thats close to the numbers for Jazz, although I believe we are seeing probably around 100-150 come over from GGN. So that leaves 100 off the street for 2019. New hire course every 3 weeks is what I've heard and seen thus far. KP is probably more accurate with those numbers.. There are publis...
