Re: New hire bids

Hopefully with the addition of the extra 9 captains on this bid we can go back to 16 day (80hr) work months.. I actually don’t see that in the cards. And just imagine a 16 day work month to be the goal? That is what the NB pilots at AC have now and are demanding change. 82.5-87.5 combined with horr...

Re: New hire bids

There are a number of YVR Q FO's and Junior CA's about to go to WJ and AC. I'd imagine they will be filling those spots soon.

Hopefully with the addition of the extra 9 captains on this bid we can go back to 16 day (80hr) work months..

Re: New hire bids

It changes by the month but there is more than usual reserve covered in yyz. It’s a 2 hour call out window to the gate and it may take 6-8 months just to hold some flying. I can’t comment on how much flying to going to reserve. But even with a full block you’ll be flying 400-700 hours a year. Also ...

Re: New hire bids

YVR on the Q can be pretty good. Island and okanagan overnights. A sprinkle of seattle and portlands. Great crews. Beautiful views. Being junior ion the CRJ at any base wouldn't be much fun. Standups and a billion deadheads. The next 13 months blocked high are going to suck for everyone though. It’...

Better than 5hrs staring at a cloud deck over the flat prairies while the captain prattles on about his 2nd ex wife!

PAL management tried to under cut jazz.. That would indeed make them the lowest bidder.

Re: Commuting at Jazz

Yes you get paid the blocking average But since your wage is such a little percentage of the whole cost model, they’d rather pay a year 1 FO $200 to sit at home just so they don’t cancel a flight later in the day. You also have less days off on reserve. The airlines got this figured out and they’re...

Re: Bidding for base is only after getting hired?

Do you get a couple weeks of paid accomodation at your new base to give you time to sort out accomodations or do you have to find a place while in ground school? If it's the latter, do you get some free time during training to deal with that? The short answer to both is No. Initial grounschool and ...

Re: New hire bids

Hard to understand why fences weren’t put up. Quite a few sky pilots left to AC without a year on Jazz property same with GGN. Glad the MEC gave them DOH, they made could use of it and left. So, for everyone that railed against DOH for SKV and GGN pilots.. There are literally none left out west and...

Re: The "Yes" side will be full of regret

No one’s going to work 20 days unless they tick the box that says it’s ok. Can’t say I ever would True, But we went from working an average of 14-15 days (some people as low as 10 on the torch) when I started, to 16-17 days through 'The flu' and FTDT changes and now we will work right to the 12 min...

Re: Negotiations

Does this move to a LOLOP refund for our medical and dental make it a taxable benefit? Do we now lose the deduction after paying as we previously got? If so, does that not further eliminate this as a decent bump in take home pay? I've seen the breakdown someone posted on how much they figured it wou...

Its pretty simple. We won't vote for anything that gives up a milimeter. We won't vote yes for anything LESS than 35% AND a pile of improvements to working conditions. Even then, it will only stop the bleeding out. It'll need to be north of 60% to attract anyone qualified to be a captain. You want s...

A very entertaining and respected coworker said this...

Here we are standing next to a massive 1000 hectare forest fire and management is guzzling beer and pissing on it thinking it'll just put itself out while the tankers and equipment are sitting 50ft away at the ready.

The step to ALPA and proper discussions amongst both MEC's is a step in the right direction. Hopefully they keep up the good relation and we both help each other out and don't step on each others toes.

DO NOT LET AC OR CHR MANAGEMENT WHIPSAW US ANYMORE.

Wasn't it recently down for a considerable time frame being updated/refitted?

There is also significant chatter throughout about onboard wifi on all the express fleets. Would certainly make entertainment options available on some of the longer Q legs..

I consistently see load restrictions, and a quick check of our numbers show lots of available payload room AND CG well within limits. Lame as a line driver.. not so bad when you're retired and drawing off a DB pension. Again, it won't last long.
