Re: Ratings in what order?
You can always do your 300 NM as part of your 50 PIC cross country. Even without having passed the CPL written or flight test. Just because someone hasn't "done" his CPL, doesn't mean he hasn't done a 300 NM cross country. True, as long as he realizes that he will have to do at least part of the CP...

Re: Ratings in what order?
Correct me if you don’t like my logic: Typically most people finish the commercial with the 50 PIC cross country requirement (for the IFR rating) already met... so if the individual in question had to meet the 50 hour requirement without having done his CPL, and therefor not having done the required...

Re: Ratings in what order?
One thing to keep in mind about starting your IFR right away after finishing your PPL is the PIC cross country hour requirement. You’ll require 50 hours of it, a portion of which you would have picked up during your CPL 300 nm cross country, so if you do the IFR before the CPL you’ll end up flying a...

Re: Looking for recent or active students Calgary Flying Club
Oh, the pool table is gone so that's about the worst part. It is a shame about the pool table. Thankfully the person responsible for its demise is no longer involved in the club. :D I've been involved with the CFC on and off for about ten years, first as a student, and then later on in other capaci...

Re: Pasco pay
Hmm interesting. Seems odd to me though, considering how fast things are moving, coupled with Pasco's job posting habits in the past few weeks, that they're solely hiring from within. Also strange that people aren't getting called after applying. I'd understand if these individuals who are applying ...

Okay thanks for the input! I bit the bullet and bought the course. I'll provide an update in a few weeks with my thoughts of the program.

Hi all,
I'm sure everyone has noticed Pacific Coastal posting almost daily recently, does anyone have any insight into their FO & Captain pay scales?
Thanks!

Does anyone have any feedback from using their online ATPL course?
Thanks!

Re: Headset recommendations
I'm on the other side of the fence. I've got a big head, and I found the Bose A20 to be quite uncomfortable, so I bought the Lightspeed Zulu 2's. That was about three years ago, and I'm still very happy about my purchase. Skypirate is right though, make sure you try them all on and wear them around ...

Re: Instructor Rating Renewal Course
No offense to TC instructors but not the first time someone made an honest mistake. I've had a TC inspector once tell me I couldn't do something until I showed him the appropriate CAR and he accepted it. We are all humans after all... Just have to make sure you can pull up the rule and interpret it...

Re: Instructor Rating Renewal Course
OK, I know this sounds a little bit brutal and I am probably taking the question out of context, but it worries me when licenced instructors are unable to find, read, interpret and defend the finer details of Standard 421- Flight Crew Permits, Licences and Ratings, especially pertaining to the vali...

Instructor Rating Renewal Course
Hi all,
So I've heard some conflicting opinions on whether the course can be used in lieu of a flight test when it comes to renewing for a class 4. Anyone care to weigh in?
Thanks!

Pertaining to the VFR course this fall: there is an assessment session in August, I wonder if it is possible to still get into that VFR course this close to its start date?

Re: Choosing a flight school in the Vancouver area - BCIT vs
I'm going to have to go ahead and agree with the Others. You already have completed a degree, having an aviation diploma isn't going to enough value to justify the cost and time required. If airlines is the path you're looking to go, they're really just looking for a post-secondary education, and ha...

Re: You can now partial a partial exam at TC
Ok... First, if people have failed "every single exam they've attempted with TC" then they wouldn't be "flying big planes today" would they? I've known plenty of safe and highly competent pilots who struggle with exams, the two are not entirely dependent on one another. As for "schools are seeing th...

Hi all,
I have a friend who is looking at Vital in Nanaimo to finish their private and then continue on commercial. I met a lady recently who did her training there and she had good things to say, just looking to get some more opinions on the school.
Thanks a bunch.

I've got a big head (shut up), and big sunglasses to boot underneath my Zulu 2's, and I've never found it at all uncomfortable. Seem to seal fine, too.

Thanks for the replies you two. I think I'll take the risk of making a very late road trip. Put all my eggs in one basket, and now I'm paying the price!
