Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
I guess no one is getting put in a pool waiting for a ground school once they pass the interview and medical? It's stressful not knowing if you failed the interview or they just don't have a slot open yet. I have been waiting for over a month and from what I hear from others I won't get a response ...
Re: One List
That's great news for encore pilots, I am happy for my friends working there! As someone who has a resume in with WestJet mainline currently working left seat for another regional carrier I think I will withdraw my application at this point. Looks like AC and Sunwing are the only options left for me...

Re: Air Canada Pay
Is 75-80k a year gross do-able for a first year AC FO with max overtime or am I dreaming? If you get on with Rouge and pick up a draft trip only once a month that would be very easy to do. Picking up a LAS turn at first year pay gets you just shy of $800 before tax. The whole OT thing is likely goi...

Re: Air Canada Pay
That's actually better than I expected. As someone hopefully moving to AC next year from left seat at Express I will have to work a bunch of overtime to make ends meet and pay my mortgage. Is 75-80k a year gross do-able for a first year AC FO with max overtime or am I dreaming?

Re: Jazz Approach
Doesn't Jazz hire mostly everyone from most colleges including the two year ones? That would be way cheaper than doing this cadet program.

Thanks for the update. I'm guessing that's the last class scheduled to start in 2019?

Re: Regional Career
He’ll be “further ahead” based off his projected 6 million YouTube followers and the income from that  Keith... you realize that if you started at AC today, in 5 years you’d be making around a minimum ( again, MINIMUM, on the a220) $115 an hour as an FO. Meanwhile your 5th year rate at Jazz wo...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
From what I understand 1 class every 3 weeks. Calls go out 2-2.5 weeks ahead, so next class should be going out by the end of this week. Looks like guys that interviewed in August are still waiting. I’m not sure if class size is increasing. OK thanks for the update! I am waiting since early Septemb...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Class of 14 started yesterday. Only one was OTS from overseas. Rest were express Thanks for the update! Is there going to be a slow down in November and December for the holiday season or will additional classes still be running before the new year? From what I understand 1 class every 3 weeks. Cal...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Is YUL a base option for current new hires at AC or is everyone getting YYZ? If so, does it take long to bid over to YUL?

I think its possible if you have a wife who earns a good salary as well. As the sole bread winner for my family of 3 we are still living paycheck to paycheck even after my upgrade.

Re: Regional Airline Pilot to IFR Controller, worth the switch?
Wonder what the OP ended up doing. If you're still undecided, just remember money ain't everything. Job satisfaction goes a long way in terms of happiness and health. I joined aviation during 9/11 and I had a really tough time getting my first fo job and took forever to upgrade. The pay after my fi...

Re: Living near YYZ/YTZ
. Now that I am left seat I still don't qualify for a mortgage in the GTA.t Do you mean you don’t qualify because you can’t yet put down 20%? If you look just over an hour to yyz, decent places can be had below 400,000. This being a non-rush, potential 407 commute, but they are out there. Definitel...

Re: Living near YYZ/YTZ
For me it wasn't easy. I am raising a family in the YYZ area and my wife doesnt work. How I managed to survive was by running a side business and using a line of credit when absolutely necessary. Now that I am left seat I still don't qualify for a mortgage in the GTA.

Re: Leaving a good paying secure job for aviation
I was in a similar situation. I left a high paying software engineering job for aviation 4 years ago. I still only make half as much as I did as a software engineer however I enjoy my job more. I am slated for an upgrade at a 705 in the near future which will raise my income to a level on par with e...
