Re: Upgrade Times and current pool of eligible FOs

The command sims are not TC mandated either. It's an extra step that AC uses. The philosophy behind the command sims used to be to load the candidate up (sometimes with unrelated, unfair scenarios) but now they are treating it like a thorough LOE that is meant to build some confidence. Kinder, gent...

Re: 35 people injured on AC flight.

Why are we talking about the pilots? Everyone unlatched their shoulder belts above 10k unless it’s definitely going to be gnarly. It’s just way more comfortable. That being said, when riding as a passenger I always have my lap belt secured because why not? Who knows what kind of dummy is flying. Mig...

Re: Pet Peeves?

It all boils down to professionalism for me. 1. We want to be paid and seen as professionals Except regional FO’s aren’t paid as professionals so what can you expect? When one paycheque goes entirely to rent it’s pretty demotivating. As for sunglasses in the terminal that is just pathetic and super...

Re: Gate checking carry on in Canada

“The bags that are too large to fit in the overhead” - again it depends on the aircraft if these are considered sky check or gate check. Myself and someone else had a pretty good description in the previous comments on which aircraft at AC/Jazz offer sky check. My original question has been answere...

Re: Gate checking carry on in Canada

It’s a dumb system, people are bringing larger than ever carry on bags now that don’t even fit in the overheads and god help them if they need to put something at their feet, but no airline wants to be the bad guy and reduce the size limits.

Improve social skills and you’ll improve flight flight training. Good social skills = good CRM.

Setting pitch trim for takeoff

Many airplanes have a 1 inch or so “safe zone” and manuals often suggest moving the trim fore or aft depending on your CoG off the W&B. From what I’ve seen, most people seem to leave it in the center anyways.

How many of you adjust it or what are your thoughts

Re: Air Canada "haute cuisine" and incidence of Crew diarrhea?

I’ve had upset stomach once from India. Lasted six months. Once from Seoul. Pretty sure from layover food. Direah. And 2 weeks duration. Constant discomfort. One of the side effects of airline flying. People outside our group don’t think about these Things we deal with. Jet lag is ever present for ...

Likely to the local Loblaws. There is very little movement at the moment. I'm an example, 6000+ hrs king air captain trying to land 705 position.
You’re overqualified now, it’s too late.

There’s a company in Ontario that fixes Bose headsets. Don’t remember the name. All said and done I reckon you’ll have them fixed up for less than a couple hundred bucks.

Re: Flying Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 and Jazz Air / Air Canada Express for the first time

I like to tell people “smaller planes fly slower therefore they are safer”. Not necessarily a valid fact but it’s one way for a layman to look at it and feel better. As for the Q400, it is a beast, if you lose an engine and don’t even touch the rudder it will still get a positive rate of climb in a ...

Re: Any chance we just lost our AC flow?

Even if you decide to stay at Jazz it's a pretty good gig after you get through the first few years. Decent pay. Great perdiems and benefits. True, I’m not sure why everyone is always shitting on Jazz around here, it was always a good job and nothing has majorly changed. Few years of pay sacrifice ...

Seniority is everything if airlines are you’re goal, so don’t @#$! around waiting. Any airplane can fly overweight just fine...until an engine fails...lol. Therein lies part of the problem. Most of these kids don't want to go where the real money is. God forbid they should strike out on their own and leave mommy and daddy's back yard. They'd rather stay at home for half the money and then bitch about not making enough and believe it's all somebody els...
