Re: Westjet hiring of sunwing cadets

Actually, I flew 200 hours as FO before I started building multi-PIC, flying as medevac Captain on a pressurized twin at 800 TT with fresh out of school FOs, CP of the same company the day my ATPL was signed off at 1600TT, went to 705 at 6000 of which 5600 was multi-PIC. I’m sure my mentors must of...

Re: Westjet hiring of sunwing cadets

Like I said, I had a few, when is the last time you had a few in the cockpit!? We are talking about an airline that until maybe 5 or so years ago you needed 5000 hours of decent experience to get hired, even now it is ATPL minimum but the cadets who WJ pilots are not used to working with, snuck in ...

Re: Westjet hiring of sunwing cadets

Had a few sooooo, we are in North America talking about a Canadian airline who has never had low time FOs, the other poster said 90% of airline pilots deal with this, they don’t! I don’t give a shit about the rest of the known world, they have adapted much like my company had to when all that was a...

Re: Westjet hiring of sunwing cadets

I tend to agree with you cdn. No pilot with less than 1500 hours knows their own limits yet, nevermind a captain that's never flown with them before. I'm fairly certain that Sunwing even had barriers set up for these pilots and captain's were used to flying with low time FO's. Westjet captain's hav...

Re: Westjet hiring of sunwing cadets

In the US, you don’t fly a 705 equivalent aircraft without an ATPL, so those airline pilots are not dealing with this! AC doesn’t hire without, not entirely sure about AT but we know Sunwing, Jazz, PAL, Encore and a couple smaller companies but that’s hardly 90% of the airline pilots! I didn't real...

Christ you all sound like a bunch of crusty old curmudgeons. Air Canada sounds like one toxic place to work.

Sounds like you spend more time hating on each other than actually being happy

Re: Converting Canadian ATPL to Australia

It's not too hard, I did it a few years back. It was just the law test then and a flight test. Things might have changed but the flight test had to be in an aircraft over 12500lbs or a class D ffs. Which can be a hurdle. If you have the contact you might be able to negotiate your type PPC as part of...

Re: Why Won't You Come to WestJet?

I think the better question is why would anyone choose to go to Westjet over any of the other 705 operators, AC,AT,SW(rip),FL etc. What does Westjet do better than the rest? Up until a few years ago, many of these pilots also handled tasks like tidying up the cabins. Today, if you hear some of thei...

Hmmmz. If matters a lot if the argument is: "let's privatize X, Y and Z, because private companies can do it more efficient than the government!". Which can easily result in a higher cost to us taxpayers. So yes, it absolutely matters in this type of discussions! Where does it say privatise healthc...

And I hope WS doesn't screw them over. To operate a successful yul/ yqb based airline, you need francophone crews. Ideally you need french sops, and a french speaking org structure. Sure you can keep sunwing vacations, selloff vacations, and signature vacations, but when the crews are anglo's flyin...

Re: Merger Board Order

Sounds a great time to be a SWG pilot. I have a feeling the pilots most screwed over by this merger will be the senior FOs at WJ who’ve waited 10-15 years for a left seat. Goes both ways, as a captain forced to return from the sandpit and been here since before Covid, it now looks what was due to b...

Last year I added 50% to my pay without feeling overworked, eventhough I have a low seniority. Re: Renting a Cessna 172 in the USA

Based on the regulations established by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States, the biennial flight review (BFR) requirement applies to pilots who hold U.S. pilot certificates. If you're exercising the privileges of your U.S. private pilot license (PPL), you'll need to meet a...

I looked up this a few years ago. Last J32 renewal I did was with Flight Safety in St Louis. At the time there was a sim waiting to be setup in Seattle. Not aware of any sims in Canada though. A friend of mine did his type rating on the aircraft for an operator here. pascan also operates the j32.

A year or so ago, I read an interview with a woman who lives in Vancouver, and was lamenting the high cost of living. She freely admitted that she could have made more money literally anywhere else in Canada , but she didn't think it was fair that she should have to choose her income over her lifes...
