Re: Float rating for 2016 season
You don't need 50 hours for that. I seriously hope not! Yeah although I'm sure I'd learn some useful experience doing some more hours, a big reason for doing the course is to try and get a flying job. It's just trying to work out whether the cost of doing all the extra hours to try and incre...

Re: Low time pilot looking for employment
Hey Andrew,
Your resume looks good, easy to read the relevant bits etc.
I'm not sure I'd say you have the skills required to contribute 'vastly' in your cover letter though. You may well have, but it might seem a bit over confident. Just an opinion.
Good luck with the job hunt

Re: Float rating for 2016 season
Hey Trey, Thanks for the info, it's good to know there's still so many float planes in Canada! Like you say the numbers show there's a good chance of getting a job in the industry. What you said there with the wages makes good sense too, and is pretty much exactly what I've been thinking. I expect t...

Re: Float rating for 2016 season
Thanks for that North Shore, I did my float rating on a 172 and it was a great aircraft to learn the float skills in - took up a good chunk of the lake to get airborne though (and it was a big lake!) Good to hear you think they'll take some of my Total Time into account too, I got about 1050 ...

Re: Float rating for 2016 season
Hey all, Hoping someone can help me out with this, further to my earlier message about 25 or 50 hour float courses. One of the main benefits of doing these courses, from what I can tell, is that it might make it easier for you to get employed because of the insurance requirements some companies have...

Re: Have you ever fired a student?
Sometimes it just takes longer for some people to attain the skills, but when they do they really do! Gabby Gabreski was the top American fighter ace of World War 2 and flew jets in Korea. In 1938, during his first year at Notre Dame, Gabreski developed an interest in flying. He took lessons in a Ta...

Re: Bush flying training.
The problem is not so much age or experience, particularly in teaching at the ppl level. It is attitude You are absolutely correct with that, and I've got to agree with you when you say most young instructors talk about which companies are hiring etc. The thing is though that doesn't mean that they'...

Re: Bush flying training.
I'm not 100% sure but in other countries such as Britain aren't they trained by high time pilots right off the hop? It's pretty much the same deal in the UK, you get your Commercial Licence then (if you choose to go the instructor route) you get your Instructors Rating and off you go. Only differen...

I've just been logging my PF time (we do one leg as PF and the next as PM) as PICUS, but you could well be right.

Re: Logging PICUS
Fairly sure it's just the time spent as PF, flight time when you're PM should be logged as Co-Pilot.

Re: Float rating for 2016 season
Hey North Shore, Thanks for the reply and advice, it's much appreciated! Luckily I've got a bit of a flying job at the moment that should see me through the winter, then I can hopefully start flying floats in the spring. Just got to figure out what to do during the winters then to keep the money com...

Re: Float rating for 2016 season
Hey, I'm also going to be trying to get into the float plane world next year. I've got about 950 hours TT with a mix of instructing and commercial ops type stuff. Just got the 7 hour float rating at the mo but looking at doing one of the 50 hour courses. My question is I'm now 36, do you think there...
