Re: Hazards of Running a Tank Dry
I would further mention that on an RSA (bendix fuel injection) like on a piper single or twin comanche, when the system starts to pass both fuel and a bit of air as the tank runs dry, there is a chance if you are looking , you will see first, an increase in "indicated" fuel flow spiking upward. On a...

Re: Hazards of Running a Tank Dry
I only have experience with RSA (bendix?) fuel injection. there is no "return line for excess fuel " like on cessna twins. You can run a tank dry, but you best be up high, and planning for it when it happens. It seems to take a long time to "prime all the lines and get it flowing to the engine again...

Re: Operate a city centre airport - investors sought
I am almost sick, this will be the end of YTZ as anything useful for GA. IF the 80.00 dollar overnight plus gst does not kill its usefulness for GA, the "new "landing fee structure that will come will. Or they will negotiate with someone somewhere to get "jets" in , and they will pay what the new le...

there are no where near enough AME's working on small planes. I guess you have to work for an outfit first to get your trade, then you can go on your own.

Re: Airport mismanagement
Sadly most airport management types are non flyers.. rarely do they understand what flyers want etc. YQA is clearly becoming a "cater to the jet crowd" kinda place. I do perhaps understand not spending thousands on snow removal etc for the 2 or 3 ski planes a yr, that said they should not prohibit t...

Re: Check the Ramp for Leaking oil After post Maintenance Run-up
I mostly change my own oil. I start the airplane, and after 5 mins shut it down, get out, look, wipe bottom of oil filter with finger to check for leaks, I then restart the airplane and fly one or 2 circuits, i then shut it down again, if it has no leaks I am NOW good to go. I am not comfortable rea...

Re: Piper Aztec E normally aspirated
Thanks. sincerely. I do hope to get an E model POH eventually , I am not sure but I think it has a different horizontal stab than the F and is a bit faster. This will get me started on systems etc. I think the word is they rarely do book speed.... THis POH is beautiful for printing! nice and clear.....

Re: Favorite Aviation Movie?
Battle of Britain was made in the 60's. It used real airplanes for the most part. Its a great "love in" for the WW 2 planes. Dunkirk has some spitfire love in it. The Blue Max also had lots of "real" flying in it. I guess I just want to look at the planes . Those magnificent men in their flying mach...

Re: New landing fees at CYTZ
The only part I take a bit of exception to is the 0645-0659 and the 2200- 2300 The airport is open until 2300 tripling the fees after 10 is kinda rude I know they are trying to discourage evening flights. but the gardiner expwy right next door has no "closed from 11pm -0700" and no toll from 0645-7 ...

I heard him talk once, live. Among other things he talked about being "jumped" by another P51,and it was fair game where they played at the time. It was post war. Re: Landing fee at CYOS
its a nice evening, you have been out changing the oil in your sky cutter 2000, you have run the engine, its not leaking, its ready to go... why not take a little 15 min flight to make sure and do 2 circuits before the sun goes down, so two landings, and put it back in the hanger.... oh.... its $ 70...

Toronto, tml and ctr are great and always are, YTZ YYZ are great. Lots of us from "not around ottawa" fail to call in to get a vfr code for terminal. They will give you one half the time. Now that they plan to lay a bunch of controllers across the country off, I do not blame them one bit for not goi...

Re: Landing fee at CYOS
anyone want a history lesson about how we got to where we are in general wrt "regional or smaller airports?" in Ontario ? In the good old 1970's, and early 80s' almost all the towns that you know that now have 3500-4000 foot paved runways had grass, or if they were busy dirt!! strips.. the grass was...
