An aircraft is only on vectors when it is radar identified. You absolutely can use via direct right off the ground. It is the pilots responsibility for terrain clearance. It is there responsibility to turn on course when safe and able.

Re: YYZ STARs
Well a topic that pilots and controllers can finally agree on!!!! From our perspective the STARS are a complete pain in the arse. The old one worked quite fine in my opinion. It was much easier to sequence arrivals into the terminal. It was easier to hold and meter in to the bedpost as well. Having ...

Re: Emirates 380 de declares an emergency and heads to YOW
I was working that afternoon/evening. This is nothing new. You people are making something out of nothing. We were landing in a runway 15 configuration which obviously means reduced acceptance rates for yyz. So yes there was holding. Yes there was some weather and wet runways as well. Nothing new. D...

Re: Air Canada pilots call in sick, fatigued, and blind.
Ahhhh I find it quite amusing reading these posts at how HYPOCRITICAL some of you pilots are when the shoe is on the other foot. When you guys were "the customer" during ATC labour disputes, you all cried job action and illegal strike rhetoric. Now that AC pilots are proceeding with what some specul...

Re: Percent that pass
Applying yourself to theory can be mastered by anyone if you put in the tremendous hours required to recall all the information. Taking that information and understanding how to use it in a very quick and dynamic workplace with factors such as stress, task management, prioritizing workload, coordina...

Re: Canada to send six CF-18s for Libya 'no-fly' mission
I find it ironic that the biggest arms deal France ever made was with Libya!! Some 200 fighters purchased. Loudest war drum beating was from France. My two cents. Other than that GODSPEED to our boys and girls!!!!

Re: Questions for YYZ Tower?
Eloquently said Cossack. My point exactly. Alot of times I am left with a situation that does not conform to the flow of traffic that I was expecting. May seem great and efficient to the pilot on departure but when handed off to the enroute, but the extra vectors to get you climbing and on course ma...

Re: Questions for YYZ Tower?
In reference to "rog". For the record, all things may not be as rosey as they sound!!! YOU (pilots), may think he is the cats ass of ATC, but that is not the opinion from other ATC'ers. Without trying to sound derogatory, alot of scenerios get "fixed" after coming from departure with vectors and spe...

Re: Anyone have an abnormal ECG on Cat 1?
I too had an abnormal ECG in my early twenties. This after years of military flying/ medicals. Also, I had been to DCIEM only a few years prior running through the guantlet of tests that they perform without ANY issues. Needless to say, I was sent for a stress test AND ultrasound of the heart. Absol...

Re: UA Pilot spills coffee diverts to YYZ and media is dumb
I was working on this particular night. The crew did NOT cycle through the 7500 code on purpose. The console was so fried that when they tried to cycle 7600 they couldn't. The radar returns interpreted it as a 7500. The crew were losing comms. quickly and avionics as well. At times radar returns wer...

GSPY, As a side note. "NAVCAN" or specifically the controllers that you direct your statement to DO KNOW THE RULES. We can only issue you the limits. We are not the airplane police. If you choose to violate CARS our only action is to write it up. We cannot physically stop anyone from operating their...

Re: Radar identified in uncontrolled airspace
Flight following VFR in any airspace does NOT EVER alleviate your responsibility to see and be seen. The Centre controller is responsible for separating IFR traffic only. Flight Following is a courtesy provided to you and traffic information will be passed based on workload and observed traffic. IFR...

Re: YYC's loved "F" word
I don't work in YYC. I am in YYZ. Yeah yeah, Sometimes we don't get bedpost crossing times from the flow desk until it is too late. Hence the reason you would not get an enroute speed reduction in cruise. Our only alternative is to hold at the bedposts and achieve the crossing time that way. If we a...

Re: G8/G20 VIP air travel
OK OK. I apologize if I came off a bit pompous in my posts. That was not my intention. Hopefully this will clarify. My only point is that we cannot as mandated by ATC MANOPS disseminate or divulge actual timings of movements. I can't tell you when to show up or when specific movements are occuring o...

Winds_in_whatever the F&^K, Your reticence (NOT), of all your posts thus far prove just how ignorant you truly are. This thread was started with no political agenda attached to it. Aviators were curious to know about the airplanes involved in this spectacle. Thats ALL... Just as a few others have st...

Re: G8/G20 VIP air travel
Thanks for your sarcasm retard. Not trying to be "heroic" as you eloquantly suggest. All I am saying is those that are privy to the operation and how its going to be conducted and what surveillance is being implemented simply cannot divulge that information. If you are ANYWHERE near Deerhurst withou...

Ahhh, Barrie airpark..."the sidewalk"!!!!! I to scared the living SH*T out of myself a long time ago there. Long story short.
