Re: CAP Rant
LIDO are worse than CAPs. The layout is random. Information in one spot on plate A is in a completely different spot on plate B. Departures take one full A4 page for the graphic and a normal binder page for the text. STARs take a full A4 page... there is paper everywhere in the cockpit. The approach...

Wow. No landing/ramp fees. No tiedown fees for up to 89 days. If you keep an aircraft at the airport for more than 90 out of the last 365 days you must become a member ($120/yr) which also includes fuel discount, full terminal building access, rental aircraft privileges, etc. You wouldn't believe h...

I don't like the bar. I bet there is no such bar in Yellowknife. Then you would lose that bet Sheila. There is a bar like that in Yellowknife...only difference is its seedier in real life and the "dancing girls" are not exactly "top shelf" strippers lol. Haha, Oh Harley's... I port out of Toronto, but I never ask for anything out of YYZ. I find for my purposes, the flying is as good as it get out of YYC and I still get everything else I want. I know a few pilot who port out of YEG, but never ask for any port flying. The commute for free to YYC, ask for YEG overnights a...

How many reserve lines are they planning for WJ Lite? No scheduling policy has been decided on that I'm aware of, but if it is to parallel our current scheduling system, (which my understand is that it will be), there will be no reserve. Our current system works on a voluntary basis. If you have a ...

If you have an IATRA or your exams written apply. There are at least two people working there right now that do not have an ATPL, but thier exams written (I worked there recently). You won't upgrade without an ATPL.

Re: what is going to happen if WJ does the regional thing?
I have not seen a proposed structure - will it be a contract and fee for departure or are they planning to have it all one big happy family - usually when there is a talk of a "feeder" it is only being created to cut costs and pilot salaries are a big part of that - I think this is a step closer fo...

People will pay the bonds to leave, or stay until the bond is up. Those are really the only choices you have in the case of a bona-fide bond. A promisary note is a different matter. My (admittedly limited) experience with companies that bond, is that they will do nothing other than possibly increasi...

Re: Dash 8 single engine approach.
Sorry Dhc6to8, not all variants are certified for SE coupled (AFCS modes: V/L, AUX, MLS, APP) autopilot approaches. You may be able to pay for a supplement for it, but as standard, the -100 and -200 are not. I wouldn't be able to tell you, for sure about supplements because it seems you can pay for ...

Re: Dash 8 single engine approach.
The limitation a stated in the afm is a SE coupled approach. You may still use the autopilot while in HDG mode. Coupled approach means an approach where the autopilot is coupled via the NAV, VOR/LOC, AUX or APP mode. HDG mode is not coupled to the approach mode and will not mask trim changes. The au...

I've logged it separately because, as BPF says, Insurance companies will want to know about it. I don't have much, but I think a separate column if you have the space. I don't differentiate land-land or sea-land trips.

Re: Astrocompass?
Well you should be able to use it upside down, if it was designed that way, the declination scale (the part that the sight is on) would need to be different than the ones i'm used to, as it denotes the angle up/down of the star. With the proper placarding, I see no reason why not. This Captain needs...

Try Western Avionics in CYYC for an astrocompass, and I know for sure that they do the calibration and certification on them.
