Re: In-person interview questions (Nav Canada)

Definitely a shorter and easier interview than the phone. They want you to demonstrate a clear understanding of the company and what they do and not just ATC stuff, but other branches and how it all works together and differences between IR, VFR and FSS. It wouldn't hurt to know some other stuff abo...

Trainee Tax Question

Hi, For all those who have been through training in the past year or so (since Nav Canada started paying trainees right from the get go) .... What box did you file your training income (the grant/bursary/whatever they called it when you were in your generic course) on your tax return? Did you pay ta...

Re: Moncton referral program of 2016

I don't know how true this is but I have heard from an employee that Moncton is overstaffed because residents have been sent to work out of province and are trying to come back. I would suggest that you try to get in contact with someone there to validate my saying. If it is really overstaff and no...

Re: How long did any of you current controllers/trainees take to get your offer

First application. I was streamed IFR. Got a course offer (VFR) probably about a month or two after I was streamed. I got very lucky with the timing of my application process. What FIR are you? And have you followed up with them to see what the status of your application is? Just to continue to show...

Re: FSS Course (YQM) - What to expect?

Also I've heard the FSS exam is pretty different than the IFR/VFR exams (you're IFR, right?), but most of my intel is from people speculating on forums, so I don't really know. . Correct. Tower controller here who did my course last spring... As noted below from an FSS trainee, their test is 50 mul...

Re: YQM application process

Just waiting now for the invite to the In person Interview, been 5 months, hopefully it comes soon :) You did get a green light on your phone interview? I know there are delays but five months seems like a long time between that step. And I know a VFR, IFR and FSS course are currently ongoing, so t...

Re: a question about the ITA exam for those who have taken it

The format however is pretty much the same with the exception of there being quite a few definitions that you will need to have down word for word. Really? When did you write your ITA? I wrote mine this past summer and I would disagree strongly with that statement. As I remember, we only had one ac...

Re: Online Testing Results ATS

I made it all the way though and answered 27 questions and believe I threw out a last second guess on number 28. Or maybe it was 26 and guess on 27. Either way as noted that is merely a first step. It will determine whether you get invited to an in person session but further testing will determine i...

Re: Training Question

This is awesome, mind if I PM you with a couple more questions? Thanks a million. No problem and yes feel free to PM me with anything. Thanks everyone else for clarifying and adding to my comments. My advice and it is what I did - don't fixate on 'oh I can still fail this but be ok' or paying a lot...

Re: Training Question

Did the candidates who failed the written test not get a retest? Or once you fail you are done type thing??
Yes, you do get a retest or re-eval if you fail in the sim. Sadly though in this case they failed the retest too, which yes leads to cease training.

Re: Training Question

I'm VFR and finished my course this past summer and have been in on the job training since fall. There was no real typical day on course as it could vary depending on whether we were in the sim, in the class or if our schedule had to change because our course was the same time as the FSS course and ...

Re: Anyone on here from the Moncton FIR November 17th assessment?

I know the next VFR course has already been loaded and also the next IFR one too, although I'm not completely sure. Not sure at all about the status of FSS courses. Although if you aren't even yet in the candidate pool/haven't had your final interview it would be my educated guess that you might be ...

Re: Has anyone in Moncton FIR received a call for an in-person interview?

Still wondering if anyone was offered IFR training in Moncton. I was hoping to connect for study help with the ITA. There is a lot of material and it may be good to bounce ideas off each other or quiz each other. Let me know. Send me a PM. Having done the ITA in May, I can definitely help you out w...

Re: What to know before training starts

I wouldn't really bother learning that before you get started. There's a list of like 60 or so (I'm going by memory here) airport identifiers you need to have memorized (Canadian, US and international), but you should have plenty of time to learn them before the ITA.

Re: Just applied

If I'm not mistaken, Moncton is training FSS people for national positions as opposed to just in the FIR. You are not mistaken. While VFR and IFR training is typically done in the FIR for the FIR, I know the last course in Moncton anyway did send all 3 who made it through outside of the region and ...

Re: Has anyone in Moncton FIR received a call for an in-person interview?

From what I understand, offers for Moncton training will come out around the end of the year. VFR should start in February/March and IFR in April. So, I am guessing offers for VFR would be first and then offers for IFR training. Just wondering, since I qualified for IFR stream and if NAV Canada cal...

Re: CBT - Introduction to aviation

I've definitely heard of people who have had that much time or less to prepare. And if you are now off work and focusing full time on the ITA, you will be fine. It's also possible (but not guaranteed, you can check with your instructors) that you will have some in-class time devoted to studying the ...

You may still end up VFR. I was streamed IFR and that was my preference but I got a VFR course offer and thats where I ended up (and am now quite happy about it!). So you never know.
