Re: Online Ground School
Hello, New to site and currently taking flight lessons at my local airport but due to work I am away too much to attend their ground school. (purchased my ground school kit thought them) I do have time sitting on my butt in hotels during travel, so online is really my only option, my flight instruc...

Re: Harv's. Which location?
Besides all information regarding the school, can someone provide information about living either St.Andrews or Steinbach? Which one is easier to live in, and which one is easier to move around without a car. Not the answer to your question, but I found this link (dated Feb/4/2010) that offers some...

Re: Training only/predominantly in a Cessna 152
the consensus seems to be that a 152 is more than ok for doing whatever similar training I would do on a 172. Is true. use the Cessna 172 (4-seater) for training. After learning on this aircraft, there is no further training required to fly the Cessna 180, 182, 206 etc. used for entry-level jobs in...

Re: Training only/predominantly in a Cessna 152
I have to laugh at that last quote about "planes that prepare you for that first job". And how many sleazy operators out there go; "Sorry son, you just don't have any 180/185/206 time, and shit we can't turn you loose on that plane without an excessive amount of company training. No problem though,...

Re: Harv's. Which location?
I know guys who have been at Stienbach. They liked it because the practice area was very close, virtually empty airspace aside from flight school planes and jumpers. When you're doing your PPL and some of your CPL, you have a lot of practice area time. I for example trained in Vancouver and had a ....

Re: Training only/predominantly in a Cessna 152
Which is the first job you suppose will be on a 172?? Hello photfly , the answer to your question is: I do not know. I actually have no experience to know. I was reading over at Vital Aviation and came across the info. quoted below. Just to be clear, Vital did not actually say one should/must learn...

Training only/predominantly in a Cessna 152
Is there anything gained or lost by only/predominantly training in a Cessna 152? I see some schools minimize the course cost by offering the option of doing the all the single engine training in a C152. But from what I have read and seen online, it would appear that one should get familiar with a Ce...

Having problems sending PMs
I am trying to send a PM but I notice the message seemingly is stuck in my "Outbox." I have messages in my Outbox since "Mon Jan 04, 2016 10:16 am" The message does not show up in my "Sent messages" folder. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong, can you assist me please ? The last PM I tried s...

Re: Employment Hedge
takecharge.navcanada.ca You get paid to become ATC. Not that much, but perhaps you can apply your aviation related skills to a trade that pays well at the end (given you study and prep for it accordingly). Takes about a year from application to be on the line training I believe. Thanks for the take...

Re: Flight training schools in BC (or elsewhere in Canada)
Check out Golden Horseshoe, in Hamilton. They just started doing CPL training, and it's in Hamilton: a decently big city with a big, controlled airport (not too busy), lots of uncontrolled fields and terminal airspace so you will get very comfortable with both. As for post-PPL time building, there ...

Re: Flight training schools in BC (or elsewhere in Canada)
It sounds like you have done a lot of research! Here are a few more suggestions based on your replies: - Don't discount a school with a crappy website. Flight schools are in the business of flight training, not web design. - From what you say, my first choice suggestion would be Harv's air, as it t...

Re: Flight training schools in BC (or elsewhere in Canada)
Some more information/clarification about what I would be looking for: I am looking to pursue PPL training leading to CPL training with the various ratings (at least Night Rating, VFR Over-The-Top, Multi Engine Rating, Instrument Rating, etc). Prior to starting the training, I am planning to have a ...

Re: Flight training schools in BC (or elsewhere in Canada)
My initial "ideal" location to live was (and still is downtown Toronto), but I could not really find any schools in the Toronto area. I only came across Toronto Airways, which looks really nice at their website...but the reviews here on AVCanada didn't seem so good. Did you see Island Air? They are...

Re: Flight training schools in BC (or elsewhere in Canada)
Nobody can quote a flat rate for flight training, because everybody requires a different amount of time to be proficient. The numbers schools quote are based on Transport Canada's minimum hours. Langley's numbers are PPL -> CPL. Skyquests's sound like Warm Body -> CPL (link broken...). If at all po...

Re: Flight training schools in BC (or elsewhere in Canada)
I would recommend figuring out where you want to live in Canada, and then going to a school nearby. . . . I think the above may very well be the best approach. My initial "ideal" location to live was (and still is downtown Toronto), but I could not really find any schools in the Toronto area. I onl...

Re: Flight training schools in BC (or elsewhere in Canada)
He meant Alberta, Sask., and Manitoba. Vancouver area tend to be expensive in terms of living expense. I don't think MichaelP works for SLA anymore and I don't really have enough experience to give any kind of impression. I had a check out with them but didn't like how the DA20 fly. Be aware of sch...
