Re: Shop Labour Rates in Canada
Wow, this whole forum is nothing but a series of impending arguments just waiting to happen... Grow up boys, stop perpetually quoting each other, and stick to the subject. The original poster wanted to get an idea what the current shop rates are in Canada. I can't see what the ensuing pissing contes...

Re: No work anywhere
Most successful people I know, many outside of aviation, at one point or another in the past had to sponsor some of their own continuing education in order to give their career that extra bump needed to propel it to the 'next' level. But somehow those that often bitch the most of this forum believe ...

Re: Future AME Discouraged
I gradded in 2011 and I went straight into helicopters. I wanted to work on helicopters so that was my choice. I got a job as an apprentice making 13 bux an hour. No benefits, no holidays, no OT... crappy work environment. I told myself it was part of the process in order to get my AME license. Aft...

Cause we have given at the office and don't really give a f_{€ any more. Piss off troll. Further, though I'm generally not prone to making inflammatory remarks on this forum, telling somebody experiencing difficulties with their chosen profession that it's better to just look for a new line of work is about the MOST stupid advice one can give out, or receive. It's like telling a guy wit...

Re: Future AME Discouraged
You guys prove my point exactly, it's much better to bitch and moan about the state your career is in as opposed to actually doing something about it. Or better yet, get into a completely different trade all together and start from the scratch vs. fine tuning something you been at for the past 10 or...

Re: Western AME Association Website - News
Very good read !! One point that's immediately obvious though is that some form of corporate sponsorship will be required to get this National Association project off the ground. Individual member contributions will not suffice to get things moving in a timely manner. However overall concept sounds ...

@ NeverBlue - you're 100% on the money with that last post !!! That stuff sounds simple and it makes perfect sense but its hard to believe how many people out there just don't get it. After more than 15 years in aviation I can honestly say that from where I'm standing possibilities seem endless. The...

Re: AME Wages
I've seen jobs in this industry that pay from 50k to 150k a year (base salary). Granted, those jobs may often require different sets of skills but ultimately it's up to an individual to decide which job they really want. The real shocker is those paying well in excess of 100k still have hard time fi...

Re: Pilot/AME questions...
Honestly, you're better off picking one and just sticking with it. If you try doing both inevitably you're going to end up sucking at one of the two trades - it's a fact of life. Good pilots are goal-oriented individuals as opposed to good engineers which are predominately process-oriented people. T...

.... usually i just see the impending argument forming... As for the original subject matter, 24k for an AME program tuition does seem a bit high but then perhaps there are other aspects that make it worth it in the end. Re: Encore AME jobs
Interesting article, main theme is definitely the "low-cost" philosophy... Also, of the many 'thousands' kicking the door down, trying to get a job at WJ very few will be engineers hoping for a job at their new 'low-cost' division. Anyways, what does the wage of low 20s/hour translate into when livi...

Hey "azimuthaviation" - nobody was slagging Westjet here, this tread is not about them but their new half-baked spin off . BTW even the hard-core WJ engineers have serious doubts about this new venture, they see it as a treat to whatever perks they've manged to get and keep over the years. Back to s...

Re: Encore AME jobs
There's very little mystery about the way these people are going about hiring their future employees. They simply figured what the lowest wage bracket is and now they're trying to fill the spots at that pay level. More likely than not they'll find enough people too. Why offer 35$/hour when people wi...

Wind turbines. That's my official backup plan. I wouldn't bank my future on that. The value is inflated now due to a lot of government funding, if that dries up the industry will no longer make a profit. My prediction is that wind power generation will peak soon and be in rapid decline within 20 ye...

Hi Singh, Check out BCIT in Richmond B.C. for EASA exams - they run a pretty good setup there. You can come in anytime and write several exams in one take. It's by far the most convenient place to complete part 66 exams. http://www.bcit.ca/transportation/industry/training/easa/examdetails.shtml emai...

In which of the two fields do you see your self ? Are you more of a hands-on, mechanically oriented type, that doesn't mind getting dirty or do you see your self doing radio bench work, chasing wiring bundles and looking for problems from the electrical/electronic side of things ??? Re: Why are AME's underpaid?
The original subject of this thread was why are AMEs underpaid. It's a bit difficult to define what exactly 'underpaid' means simply because it's mostly a matter of opinion often based on some type of a comparison. I'd say that a more accurate way of looking at this problem would be to ask why is th...

Re: Anybody take Aircraft Maintenance Category M at BCIT?
As with any technical trade career your education doesn't stop the day you get out school. At that point you've merely acquired the most basic knowledge required to begin your journey as an aircraft engineer. This business is all about what you make of it. If you're hungry for knowledge and experien...

For those of us not fortunate enough to speak French good luck completing your EASA exams in English....LOL In theory this option should work but it doesn't sound very conven...
