Re: Air Canada Interviews

Great post, Penguin. This is the attitude that needs to be radiating throughout the new generation in the operation, rather than the militant doom and gloom. It's unreal how many newer hires talk about 'how it used to be' with a sense of entitlement of something they never even experienced. Times ar...

Re: A New Leaf

Some great stuff in this thread. If we could just get rid of the bickering that has become a socially accepted norm, we'd be light years ahead of ourselves. Sure it's not a perfect situation, but it's still a great one and we need to do everything in our power to preserve our own culture: something ...

Re: Decision time....

Best of luck swimming upstream in this forum, but I personally still feel it would be a great move. Bottom line is the company has been around for 75 years and has made it through mergers, 911, Sars, and bankruptcy through all of which there has been minimal layoffs and no one has ever missed a payc...

Re: A New Leaf

Hey brothers. Like you, I've experienced many parts of the industry both great, and not so much. I've also experienced the wrath of our own running rampant with rumors and doom and gloom breeding distractions, whining and a domino effect of negative culture. It's up to us in the industry. Call it wh...

A New Leaf

So the sky didn't fall after all! Sure there have been concessions, but times are changing in ALL industries and we must adapt. The way I see it is that the handcuffs are finally removed from the company to ACTUALLY get out there and compete. It's no secret that the company has been in trouble and c...

Back to the table, and positive energy

Apparently the corporation and ACPA are going back to the table with assistance from the arbitrator. This is the first positive news in months. This forum is beyond depressing, and the culture out there can be toxic. The world and Air Canada will keep turning. Let's use this opportunity to put some ...

Re: Mandatory Retirement Repeal Passes 2nd Reading in Parlia

Being a bit unfamiliar with some of this AC stuff, I still don't understand this particular discrimination concept. Is this a request to fly past 60 to the age of 65, or to an indefinite age? I understand that pilots in other airlines may go beyond the age of 60. Is there any mandatory retirement ag...

Re: Ice Pilots of NWT Series on History Channel this Fall!

I really enjoy watching the show for what it's worth, understanding that things have to be dramatized.. Id personally be choked though if I were with Skyservice to see that on an International broadcast. Who knows the exact situation with the hangar in reality, but to knock them like that through th...

Re: FO's loging PIC time?

Seems you'll get a different answer from every different Transport Canada inspector. The answer I got was that an ATPL is required to act as captain in a 'Commercial Air Service'. If the aircraft is operated under 703,704 etc this is a requirement, end of story. Pilot in command under supervision is...

Thanks again for all the response.. TC guy I really appreciate your take coming from a reputable source as well. Croissant you may be right but as Valhalla said, there are a lot more barriers to overcome. There are many different situations and that argument can go on forever. The issue at hand here...

Thanks for the reply Bird.. I agree I would really like to see this try to stick to the topic at hand being the 1:1 credit. Last Spring I had been in contact with many different TC personel who all seemed to be quite misinformed on the subject and very unwilling to provide any information or updates...

TC vs. ICAO

Just for a background, ICAO changed the standard for time as F/O in a 'true' 2 crew aircraft to 1:1 credit. Canada, as an ICAO country elected to adopt this system. There was supposed to be an 'exemption' in place last June to begin processing ATPL's under this ICAO rule. This exemption apparently f...

ATPL unleashed

Hellllo there, Ive came up with a bunch of questions with regard to ATPL requirements of which I've received numerous responses including that from transport. Curious if anyone can shed any light on these with firm answers... 1. With regard to PIC under supervision, I understand all of the company r...

Although I understand there is no substitue for PIC time this would at least reward pilots with actual industry experience equal to instructor time. With this program in place, reasonably experienced candidates would now at least be eligible for a captain position if available. What would it really ...

If you obtain a new type rating within two years after writing, the exams will not expire. Key being that the exams must be written before the type rating so that rating would be based on your ATPL writtens as apposed to your IATRA. Went through this with transport a while ago so thought I would sha...
