Re: Harbour Air

@AirDoan - Honestly, the Twin Otter FO position at HA probably is not the right path in your case. First of all, candidates are chosen from within, so you'd have to start on the dock or front counter. The wait has been anywhere from a couple of months to years. It all depends on how many people are...

Re: Harbour Air

Here is a question for the group on HA. I’m at 800 TT, 650 PIC, float (10) and multi rated (working on IFR) and living in Victoria. I would really like to get on board with them as a FO as I have more than their minimums for FO even without the IFR. Though not listed my IATRA will be written shortly...

Re: Curious on the IFR flight test questions

Sorry to resurrect the old thread. Has anyone recently been through an initial group 1 ride A) from Victoria and B) under the new flight test guide? I know the routing and have been beating this dead horse for weeks waiting for a broken airplane. But I’ll be getting test ready as of Friday and any h...

Re: Harvs Air ATPL

I too am interested in what they might offer. I’ve used them for my CPL and INRAT, great but sometimes dated information was presented and Aaron’s humor can start to get a bit dry. The value in my opinion is in their quizzes and practice exams. So anyone who’s used the for the ATPLs recently I’d als...

Re: Single IFR in BC

I appreciate the replies. The relocation is starting to sound like the best option. I reached out to an old contact up north who’s asking around for me. Tough time of year to apply. I might have a lead on a bit more financing (I know, loans bad! But I’m in for the penny might as well for the pound!)...

Re: Single IFR in BC

Resurrecting an old thread, I hope nobody minds! So I am 90% ready for my IFR flight test. It took a bit longer in the SIM than anticipated to switch back to IFR thinking after 2 years working very VFR (pipelines and jumpers) and my CPL IFR training is 5 years old. However I'm officially tapped out ...

Re: Airline lifestyle

I’m just a step behind where you are, but going to have a similar conundrum later this year. ~1000 hours, group 1 ATPL written and all that stuff. Will be applying as soon as my exams are done. Also from the island. For me I’m looking at PasCo, or some of the other smaller ops like PAL or Alain most...

Re: Single IFR in BC

I'm already pissed cause this whole thing was because of a mistake the school made with the documents I was given to study. They were wrong and by the time I figured out it wasn't me that was completely at fault with the repeat lessons, we were 10 hours in. Long story that I'm fuming over. If the s...

Re: Single IFR in BC

Just do the group 3 if you get hired you will have to do a ride on the aircraft you will fly, getting you a group 1 That's what my former CP said exactly! So from where I am standing now, that would the most direct to my first IFR job and have someone else pay for the Group 1. And I appreciate that...

Single IFR in BC

Question for you aviation deities. I'm a 750 hour (and going up quickly) pilot working a skydive gig right now, and spent a year doing pipelines in Alberta. Tonnes of PIC and Cross Country for my level of TT. I've been working on my Group 1 the last year but hit a snag. I got my Multi VFR done, but ...

IATRA/ATPL

I have two questions I’ve not really found definitive answers for. Probably just missing something. I’m getting close to the 750 to write the ATPLs all VFR. I have also in the last few months completed my Multi and INRAT but not my IFR training. Long story short my school that I more or less have to...

Re: Recent INRAT writers that used Dauntless app ?

I did mine back in March. I started with Harv's Air and then the dauntless app for quizzing and exam prep. As one instructor told me the Dauntless system is great for the exam but doesn't really help for depth of knowledge for oral portions and potentially real world situations. Hence why I did it t...

Re: Training While Working Duty Times

Thank you. That's kinda what I thought. But my former CP, boss here and my instructor all told me that the training would not apply. Which didn't sit well with me and made me think my interpretation was incorrect. I'll go over the materials you've linked to again. It is greatly appreciated!

Training While Working Duty Times

Good morning. Before someone says search, I have been and reading the CARs. But for the life of me I have not found definitive confirmation about how training and/or recreational flying affects ones time limitations under the new regs. I work skydiving right now. Normally not a very busy gig however...

So, can mcc or LogTen also track duty and flight times for you? I've been using a spreadsheet an old employer was using but it is set up for the old rules.

Re: Other Options

Thanks for all the input. It’s given me some great food for thought. My reasons to try and stay closer to “home” aren’t because I just like the south more, though it would be a lie to say I wouldn’t prefer it. I spent an almost unbroken year away during my patrol job. Not seasonal as it was full tim...

Re: Other Options

Plenty of float operations on the west coast that could be interesting for you (Harbour Air)... They want real float time. And to be honest if I was 10 or 15 years younger getting started I'd do a couple season in Sioux Lookout or somewhere hauling fish for 2k/month and no room or board. Get the 10...

Hello Grand Aviators! As I sit here waiting for the weather to clear so I can keep dropping skydivers I have lots of time to consider my universe. Re: Looking For A Flight Training School In British Columbia

You don’t get to choose a flight school anymore, they choose you. As far as I know all the big schools have a waiting list for training, some with a year long wait. If you want to start right away I would suggest you also look at some of the smaller schools like the ones in Nanaimo, Campbell River,...

Re: Commuting by air to my flying job

it was an interesting thought exercise but I totally agree that it is a pipe dream. Besides. Flying someone else’s plane every day for the summer in the Qualicum Beach area with access to the entire coast by car or ferry. Hiking, fishing with access to tofino, gulf islands or Vancouver. Looking forw...

6 days with one off as per the new regs. But only once we are in full swing. Anyway. Maybe I will KISS. Once i am an ATPL working with someone big enough and I’m making enough to buy a a plane, I’ll grt something actually fun!

Re: Commuting by air to my flying job

Like I said it's more of a shower thought than real plan. But I do have some extra income over the summer that will help out there. Figured it was at least worth asking if it could work. So the money I am spending goes into useful hours and experience instead of helping someone else's mortgage (not ...

Re: Commuting by air to my flying job

Make sure your employer agrees to this. The hours you fly privately, could come out of the annual/monthly yours you are available for your employer. Cool plan though! I've been looking at the CARs and even talked to my Group1 instructor. Apparently flight duty only applies for hire. Recreational or...

Commuting by air to my flying job

Good morning aviators. I had a thought this morning in the shower, where most great ideas flourish. I'm just about to start dropping skydivers on Vancouver Island. My home is 2.5 hours of driving away but only .5 by small plane. I'm going to rent an apartment for the season. My "I wonder if that wou...
