Re: Seeking Advice on Diagnosing Oil Consumption
Finding oil leaks can sometimes be tricky as just a little bit of oil can make a big mess. As stated above, my first course of action would be to remove the cowls and give the engine a good cleaning. Here in the shop we will often use break cleaner in a hand pump. As also mentioned above be careful ...

I still hold the breaks while doing a maintenance run tied to the dock on floats.Schooner69A wrote:I am told that, some time in his/her career, there isn't a float pilot alive who has not applied brakes when approaching the dock a tad fast... (;>0)

Re: Small plane crash-lands on packed Portuguese beach
Looking at a few of the photos it looks to me to have been a very hard landing. The angle of the nose gear is definitely swept forward and the main gear leg doesn't seem quite right either. The wing strut and wing are obviously bent as well but hard to say if this was a result of the landing or a po...

Re: Cold oil changes
In my personal opinion, the only advantage to draining the oil after a flight or warm up run the speed in which the oil drains.
A pre inspection ground run is beneficial for the detection of possible defects prior to the aircraft coming into the hangar (pressures, temps, mag drops etc.).

Re: 2790s on an early 180?
We run a 1977 180K on Edo 2960 straight floats in the summer.
Having said that, this aircraft also has Kenmore Air Harbor STCs that allow a gross weight increase to 3190lbs and a O-520-KAH1 Continental Engine.
Not sure if that helps.

Fixed to Rotary Maint.
Hello All, Many moons ago I had originally aspired to join the industry as a rotary wing pilot and engineer. Since that time life, family and stable employment have drastically changed things for me. I have been working full time as an M1 fixed wing engineer since 2000. Is there any chance to move t...

There has been talk about a multi IFR for many years.... I believe this will happen some day but I cant see it in the near future. Unfortunately, zero ski flying this season.xchox wrote:I think they are heading towards MIFR... But cancelling floats is just stupid. Do they still do Skis at CKG8?

Re: Confederation College, Thunder Bay
I never went to Confed, but I live & flew out of YQT for years. I got my licenses privately and went to university. The one thing I can say is that pretty much all of the grads get jobs right away. I don't think many private schools can say that. Employers no they're getting a known quantity. If my...

Correct. The O-320-H2AD is rated for 160HP at 2700RPM and runs 100LL.rxl wrote:Is the O-320H2AD the 172 engine rated at 160 HP.? The one from the huge leap forward in 1977 or 78 to run on 100LL instead of 80/87?

Re: 0-320 OH
Back to the original question.... At the AMO I work, we have until very recently only installed factory re-manufactured engines by Lycoming. Over the last 15 years, we have worked with several different Canadian shops but the prices ranged from $23,200 on the low end up to $32,700 on the high end. A...
