Re: New pot legislatiion brings on talk of pilot pee in a cup

Once weed becomes legal, every pilot should be able to smoke it if he or she chooses to, the same way we can drink beer, wine and whiskey. Peeing in a cup and testing "positive" for marijuana, does not mean you're intoxicated. Until they find better ways to identify (marijuana induced) intoxication,...

Re: Time to Stand Firm

What can the other pilots do? AC, Jazz, Sky, GGN, etc? What about the rest of us, not in a union, flying corporate? (Not meant to be sarcastic, but honest question)

Re: Huge discouragement

I haven't even been offered a ramp position....not that I would take it because I believe and still have high hopes of landing my first job flying but man this is crazy. It seems to me that you feel you're more entitled than the rest. I hope I'm wrong. Why wouldn't you take a ramp job? What exactly...

Re: Swoop hiring foreign scabs

So it's okay for Canadian pilots to work in: - The Middle East - Asia - Maldives - Caribbean - India - Europe - USA - Antarctica (well... that one's debatable) ... but not okay for foreign pilots to work here? Where is this sense of entitlement coming from? If Canada doesn't have qualified pilots to...

PFO from whom? Are you trying to imply "Air Canada"? Oh man... Why do I even waste my time on AvCanada?

Hahahah! So many unhappy, angry, self-loathing people around. Blaming everyone else but themselves for their shitty lives. I do believe I have always included in my remarks the words: do or think whatever you want. Just don't act surprised at the outcome. Right, except that the OUTCOME is...

Re: How long till things go back to usual

The industry is going very well in the sense that one can get a nice flying job with relatively little time. Where I completely disagree is when certain individuals make it seem like we have it so well compared to twenty years ago. Let me remind you: Twenty years ago, being an F/O at a regional carr...

Re: Union at Sky

A little off topic but I am perplexed at the notion that Jazz is a stepping stone outfit. I started as a dash 8 direct entry at one of the Jazz precursors in 1988 and left in 1992, and I had a huge problem making my mind up about actually leaving, I was giving up alot. Had I not left, I would have ...

Re: Union at Sky

I responded to a post of yours which was a response to my post, now that that’s covered, time for a history lesson. When SR started, their wages in both seats were less than Jazz, Captain was significantly lower, then along came GGN and lowered the bar even further. They raise the wages after the f...

AC 737MAX passenger seats

So a few days ago I flew on AC's 737. I was actually quite excited to see it and experience it. It looks nice, but after 3 hours in that seat, I felt a little stiff. It is NOT comfortable. Has anyone flown on it? I personally like the "old Airbus seats" they have now. They are way better.

Re: Union at Sky

I think Jazz pilots should be the last to boast about how great a union is. ALPA or no ALPA we all have to deal with crap wages. I'm sorry, but when I was at Jazz, I saw very little value in the union. It's also fair to point out that I had very little interaction with ALPA, outside the "Meet and g...

Re: AirSprint Fleet Transition

Agree or disagree with Air Sprint and its policies, I love the fact that they're open, honest and willing to talk about their company to individuals that may be interested in working there. Good for them. Like someone else said here, it saves a lot of work on both ends if key information is made pub...

Re: New hire bids

The “freeze” only applies to your position, if you can hold Captain on any equipment at any base you will be able to bid it. That's correct. But the reality of it is that the Classic Dash is still the most junior "Left Seat" at Jazz, so flying right seat on the Classic, getting left seat on the RJ ...

"My plan if possible would be to get on the Q400 at another base and go to YYZ if not offered in YYZ" You would have to be awarded the Q4 in the 1st. place, otherwise you are frozen on type for 3 years [or at least that is how it used to be]. Always pick your best base 1st. the equip can come later...

Re: The importance of having a degree

The biggest advantage conferred by the top tier Ivy League degrees, is the ability to form connections within the power and moneyed elite by attending there. One does not go to Harvard or Yale to get letters after their name, they go to land positions at Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan et all through the n...

Re: Be careful what you report finding on the walkaround

I always look for reasons NOT to go flying. If something is broken, it’s broken. If it grounds the plane, then it’s sn excuse for me to start drinking beer that much earlier! Spoken like a true pilot! I 2nd that one, thought I try not to screw over the company / pax with useless reasons. It's an in...

Re: Did we reach the next phase of the pilot shortage?

Well, Maybe "Windy Farm Flying Club" won't be able to afford a $125K a year instructor, but any college / flight school with a lot of students (to be read: international students) can afford it. These guys bring in a lot of money. I am very curious to find out how much places like Montair, Harv's Ai...

It's no secret that for some idiotic reason, certain cultures assume that you're a better pilot / teacher / doctor if you have blond hair, blue eyes and speak with an American accent... Re: Did we reach the next phase of the pilot shortage?

If someone wants to pay for me to renew my Class I in the Lower Mainland, I'll do a few instructor ratings on my days off. I'll charge $100/hour or a day rate of $450 with my experience. For $125,000/year you can have me full-time. It's a bargain for my experience. And that's a reasonable salary. Y...
