Re: Jazz Pilot Pool

KenoraPilot :) You're so kind toward the Dash Trash. Good on you for having a positive outlook on it. ;) I did not like Dash 8 and I'm glad I'm not on it anymore. It may have been a technological "marvel" at one point in the 1600s, sorry I mean the 80s, but it has long outlived its welcome (in my op...

Re: SAMRA/SARON - my guide to studying

Nice post. I used Aerocourse when I wrote my AAs. I will disagree with you on one thing. Writing your SARON / SAMRA is not about how much you know (per say) but rather writing their type of exam. Since English is my 2nd language, it was very challenging for me to understand WTF they were trying to a...

Re: Logging Instrument time

I called TC and asked this exact question and this is what I got for the answer "You can only log instrument time when you are in actual IMC or under the hood and in the SIM during training, so for example, you did an hour flight from CYSB to CYTZ only during departure and landing you were in cloud...

I'm too busy to read your post. I saw "27 years old". You're not too old. Make sure you know what you're getting into though. If you want it, go for it, if not don't. It makes no difference to most people.

Re: Cannabis Policy ???

Interesting points on all sides. So Marijuana is illegal in Australia, Germany, Hungary, Morocco (Places where AC / Rouge fly to). Under what reasoning will these flight crews get screened? More importantly, HOW DO YOU PROVE IMPAIRMENT? Alcohol is illegal in Saudi Arabia. Does that mean KLM, Lufthan...

Re: TSB finds fatigue an issue in SFO lineup

I'm shocked that our Transportation Minister, an ex astronaut, would not act on something so critical (addressing pilot fatigue and changing legislation). They will have a hearing, and Justin will dress up as an Air Canada Captain, just to get in the mood of things... probably a lady captain to be i...

Re: GGN YYZ 1900 to Cease Operation

From a sentimental point of view, the B1900 is an amazing aircraft. It has been part of YYZ for many years. I've flown one before and I loved it. It's not however an airplane that needs to be tied to Air Canada's network. It's more suited with 704 operators. That itself is a cool thing to reflect on.

So you want to spend $50,000 in legal fees just to enter the worst country on earth? Obviously you have not travelled much if you think the USA is the worst country on earth. Or you are just saying that for effect. I am amazed at the amount of dislike for America there is in the pilot group, howeve...

Re: US turning people away at the boarder for investments in pot.

So owning stocks in Pot companies, in a country (Canada) where it is (will be) legal, makes you a criminal, but owning stocks in General Dynamics, Ratheon, etc that make weapons that kill millions of people a year is NOT ILLEGAL! Got it. With each passing day I have less and less desire to travel to...

It's not a federal holiday - remember we work under federal employment rules in this business. Besides, life goes on in most of the country... kids go to school, banks are open, airlines fly. Re: Air Canada lands again

There are many factors here. Doing a go-around so close to the ground (low energy) is not exactly the safest of things. We do practice it in the SIM, but when you're at "50 feet" and a Go Around is called, it's easy to miss, especially with the "plane" barking at you the "final countdown". I'm sure ...

Evasyhzcaptain, I’ll start by saying I commend you for the time and effort you’ve put into improving your CBA and WAWCON. I was going to say the same thing. It's a little odd that WJ is cutting flights while expanding Swoop. Maybe it's a coincidence. Airlines have losses. It happens, but cutting flights right away seems like a knee jerk reaction. Then again, what do I know about running an airline? (no sarcasm). Not mu...

Re: Anxiety past. Do I have any chance of getting Cat 1 Medical?

The reality of it is that a lot of pilots are suffering from some sort of depression, anxiety and mental illness. Most of them are afraid to mention anything to their doctor in fear that they may lose their medical. The laws have to change and allow pilots to keep flying if they are under a supervis...

Re: Good Hands n’ Feet vs. Operational Experience

What makes you think that a 900 hour Navajo captain does not have good hands and feet? I'd say the Navajo pilot would have more useful experience, flying operationally into small airports, more often than not with a basic auto pilot, IFR, etc. You don't need to teach slow flight, spins, spiral dives...

As long as you have a work permit, you can try an apply for that coveted 54k CAD/year job as an air canada FO. Sadly, you're 100% correct. When a pilot at "Canada's leading" carrier can not afford to live in the city that his employer resides, there is something significantly wrong with the Canadia...
