Re: Canadian rapper dies after falling off airplane wing in failed stunt in B.C.
This story may be relevant ; In about 1975 a duster pilot in south sask took a friend for a circuit on his C188. The passenger held onto the strut and of course sat on the wing. The pilot said it was the stupidest thing he had ever done. True story ; I know the passenger is still around.

Re: Dual yokes for training
Slightly off topic but: why do all aircraft have dual controls (most anyway)? Makes very little sense to me and if there is an important reason then why not dual in all vehicles.

Re: Intentionally landing on public roads
Dusters rule! A narrow country road with even a shallow ditch does focus the mind. Makes the home strip ridiculously wide.

Re: Intentionally landing on public roads
Here in sask dusters use the roads and secondary highways all the time. I land and taxi up to the local restaurant. NEVER had issues. Just one cop stopped to chat. If an airplane is a problem on a road then what is a combine or three ( up to 40 ft wide) doing on the same road?

Re: external load on C172 on floats - porta bote
I have used a porta bote a few times. If you can take a few pieces of plywood along to use on the floor. I always felt like I was going to fall through. I carried them in my Beaver also. You will be amazed at the number of bolts used to hold one together. I was finding them in pockets next day.

C 170 B back seat
I need the bottom of a 170 or possibly 180 rear seat. The one with a bolt on the side. Can be beat up as will rebuild.

Re: Hunters Blundering onto Air Fields
Once again I will send this caution. You may have a fit about a hunter unknowingly being on your runway and causing no harm. BUT he may have a fit about YOU supposedly flying to close to dwellings or causing noise or some other bullshit. Remember what goes round comes round. Airplanes are quite visi...

Re: How I make money after retirement.
I was at Johnson Point in winter of 72/73. I worked seismic and was on my way to Elleff Ringnes Island. Bad weather stuck us there for several days. Borek was the big player in western arctic then. Bradly in the east. La Ronge Aviation had a TO out of Inuvik a few years later. I didn't fly then but ...

Re: Hunters Blundering onto Air Fields
You did not HAVE to report the hunters. If they were not interfering with aircraft or acting unsafe just inform them of the situation and move on. Perhaps a hunter will report your supposed low and unsafe flying someday. Far to many folks get law involved when common sense would do.

Re: Monocular Float Pilot
I know one private pilot who flew legal for many years with one eye. Do not know about commercial. As I under stand ; a lodge may fly its own guests in its own plane . I believe the lodge just needs an approval to do so. Not too different than a farmer being able to fly his plane on his own crops an...

Second that tip to draw a line on map. All my maps were plasticised. I just left most lines on after a while because they were still usable even if destination was slightly off. I still enjoy map reading even with a gps.

Re: Great Air Tractor spray application ride-along
I drove my ag wagon for years and it was the most exhilarating flying ever. Back then never heard of using flaps in turn but when I was really in the groove I could feel the wing root stalling in a turn. Pumped full of adrenalin and exhausted after a long day.

Re: Private owners and their hiring practices?
I know several owners who hire pilots. Sometimes because they don't fly themselves or not up to date. Usually PC-12 to king air range. In the states there are hundreds of pilots available and current on multiple planes. They charge about 1000.00$ a day plus expenses. Daily rate also applies to stand...

Why do people think they can break a legal contract on a whim? It is childish and irresponsible. You would get your shit in a knot if anyone tried to stiff you ; grow up.

Re: Yet Another Australian Migration Thread
Not sure how this fits you but; several duster operations have hired Aussie pilots. I am sure they had the experience before coming here but they did get a job. Sadly float operations are declining, with total hours flown each year falling. If you do make 40 years in the bush here the last 30 will a...

Re: So I walked into a flight school and asked how much flight training was these days...
Not scientific but interesting; Talking to several people who have gone through various flight schools/ colleges I hear that only 40% are still in the flying business after 10 years. This is from people who have kept in touch with other students. At least some of the fall outs I know had bought C310...
