Re: 2022 Aircraft Purchase Tax

Thanks AirFrame. Appreciated. Disappointing to hear that imports would be impacted also, but not surprised.

2022 Aircraft Purchase Tax

Hey everyone,

There has been lots of talk about this new tax on aircraft over $100k. Does anyone know if this is on NEW aircraft or any non-commercial aircraft over that value?

I haven't seen anything to clarify this.

thanks,

Re: Life Insurance

I am in the process of renewing with Manulife and they asked all of those questions ( 2 days ago ). I remember the process 10 years ago and they didn't like me just having a PPL and IFR and this prompted me to get my CPL which helped the rates. The do ask about what 'flying' you do ( bush, sched, co...

Re: A mom to a child here. Needed some info

All of the above is good advice and won't try to add to it. I will suggest you look into alternatives to the Knowledge first RESP program. It has some 'interesting' quirks to it that are better knowing ahead of time. We capped ours, stopped contributing to it and started a separate RESP with a credi...

Re: Fatal Crash - Gabriola Island - Dec 10, 2019

I wonder if Alex knew he was flying an RCAP approach. With Foreflight it's not always obvious that an ops spec is required for a given approach. What is interesting is that if you read the report in detail, Alex was right seat. The left seat pilot had no me or IFR rating and 320 hours. I don’t thin...

Vic flying club has been competitive in the past. Did they not meet your expectations?

Re: Fatal Crash - Gabriola Island - Dec 10, 2019

he had the old King KI-256 and KFC200 autopilot if I recall. If that failed and tumbled it should have kicked off the AP before turning you into the ground, but the flight director may have been trying to correct it for a couple of seconds. Might make sense for the sharp turn and pitch up suggested ...

Its What I do wrote: Wed Dec 11, 2019 10:46 am Heard Nanaimo Aerostar . Based in Alberta .

Very sad .....
I was hoping this wasn't the case, but I know he has the tracking turned off.

Very sad indeed and hitting much closer to home if that is the case.

Re: Fatal Crash - Gabriola Island - Dec 10, 2019

Flightradar shows it was 26,000 from California/Nevada area.
The data was hidden, but I have some suspicions who it might be and have sent some emails and calls out.

Tragic loss for sure.

Heading north evidently when the track was lost. Look like it was on the approach into Nanaimo.

Prior accident and going professional

What is the impact of an insurance claim/incident on potential to being hired as a commercial pilot? Incident was a runway excursion with no injuries and was 6 years and several hundred hours ago.

thanks

Re: Looks like we are going to have to get the expensive ADS-B

Ugh, sounds about right. I have been waiting for them to provide guidance on the diversity aspect for months, but ended up with a GTX345 installed now.
Hopefully they come up with an add-on device that can multiplex the output of the single antenna unit to two antennae.

GA into Edmonton

Hey,

I have an upcoming flight into Edmonton for work.

Flying a light single engine, is YEG or ZVL the better choice? Meeting is downtown, so getting a taxi either way.

thanks,

Re: Aircraft import and incomplete logs

Thanks for the comment on the unapproved 337s. I did not know that and I can filter that out pretty quick before wasting my mechanics time. Already ordered the CD from FAA. $10USD. Yep, needed to find the oldest computer in the office to use it... Thanks again. I'll keep looking. So much crap out th...

Re: Aircraft import and incomplete logs

Thanks, I just received the extent of the logs today so will try and speak with them. Aside from props(which have to be done regardless), engines/accessories and some pressurized windshields, I can't see that much else that would be time limited on a privately operated aircraft. Gear motors? How big...

Aircraft import and incomplete logs

Hi, I am considering purchase of an aircraft from the US. Some of the logs are missing, primarily those before 2000. ( aircraft is a 1978 ) Logs for current engines and current props are complete. Missing some STCs or 337s on equipment installed. Price of the aircraft reflects this reality. There is...

Re: Port Hardy terminal services fee

Looking at this further, those fees listed should only be for turbine or jet aircraft. I'll have to give them a call I suppose. My aircraft type shows as M20T.

Re: Port Hardy terminal services fee

Sorry, you are correct is was transport Canada. I had a nav can bill for something else the same day. Aircraft was a piston mooney on IFR flight. No passengers.

Interesting as I had not received invoices for this airport or others listed on the link provided either ( penticton, etc )

Port Hardy terminal services fee

I just got an invoice in the mail from Nav Can for 'terminal services fee' for landing at Port Hardy a month ago. When did the come in as I have been in and out of there several times in the past with no charges. I also thought these kind of fees were only for larger aircraft or commercial operators...
