Re: Starting out with competitive aerobatics

In recent years there have been contests held in Ontario and Alberta. Canadians also travelled to contests in the US pre COVID. Some schools may do aerobatics training but the aircraft may not be insured for competition flying. If you decide to buy your own plane check carefully into insurance. It h...

Re: Dauntless Aviation Inrat prep Software

I used it several years ago and really liked it. Once you buy it you can keep updating it at no cost so I still occasionally use it for review.
INRAT can not be replaced by the As, cargocowboy is probably thinking about IATRA.

Re: Starting my PPL today!! Any advice?

Take notes during briefings before and after flights. Review, study and come well prepared to flights and ground briefings. Ask questions. Have fun!

If none of the commercially available masks fit you, find a pattern online that you can modify and make/sew your own. I found that worked well.

The following is copied from the TC document:

“The renewal shall be added to the existing valid-to-date and shall expire on the first day of the month that immediately follows the end of the validity period of the medical certificate as specified under subsection 404.04(6) of the CARs.”

Re: Diversion Procedures

Think about the context of the situation. Usually the scenario is that you are on a flight plan from A to B and need to divert to C and update your flight plan accordingly. What information would be relevant for search and rescue purposes if you didn’t arrive as planned?

Re: A Twist on Medical

One thing to consider is the investigation that might follow if you were ever involved in an accident. If that dug back far enough and came up with either a migraine diagnosis and/or a misrepresentation for your medical it may affect insurance coverage.

Re: Owning and Operating a plane

Lots of good points given already. If you are planning on doing your CPL, make sure the plane has a functioning navigation system (GPS, VOR or ADF). You will need that for the instrument training that is part of the commercial license and for your flight test, see the TC flight test guide.

Re: Pilot Training Record

I don’t know how long PTRs have been around but these days they are sent to TC along with the license application so once a pilot gets their PPL or CPL the PTR is no longer held at the school. Some schools will retain a copy in the student file.

Re: FASTest way to get your PPL

Is it not an option to go back to where you started training? You would have done some flying to be able to write the PPL written.

If you find an instructor you also want to make sure there is an examiner who will do your flight test(s).

I am surprised to see any flight school still operating. A COPA e-mail from February 24 has an article with the following link to minutes of a TC meeting: https://copanational.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/4-Notes-Summary-30-March-2020-Civil-Aviation-Industry-Call-Final.pdf According to this docume...

Re: Flight school delays - Covid19

You don’t seem to understand that people can have the virus and spread it without showing any symptoms, or several days before actually becoming sick. That’s why we have the “physical distancing” rules which you cannot follow in the cockpit of a plane.

Re: Canada to US border crossing ATC questions

I have done one or two VFR flights from CYBW across the border every year for at least the last 5 years, most to KCTB (Cutbank, MT). Every time when I contact Great Falls Radio before border crossing they have given me a new transponder code. Depending on the radio in the plane you typically need to...
