Re: Failed Instructor Rating flight test. Any tips to do better?
A few general thoughts about this issue: From the CAR's: 405.14 Flight training that is conducted using an aeroplane or helicopter shall be conducted in accordance with the applicable flight instructor guide and flight training manual or equivalent document and the applicable training manual on huma...

Re: Flair in hot water with the CRA
Lynx Opco is in arrears with the CRA in the amount of CAD$25,578,279 (the "Outstanding Balance") for debt owing to the Canada Border Services Agency in respect of GST incurred on importation of aircraft into Canada. As such, the CRA and Lynx Opco have entered into a payment arrangement dated Novembe...

Re: Was it an Engine Failure
. This just reminded me of the miracle on the Hudson. The engines rolled back but didn't actually quit. The F/O wasted some time trying to restart engines that were heavily damaged but still running. Understandable in that time compressed situation, and probably unusual gauge readings. From the NTSB...

Re: Being a Proficient Pilot
One situation you should not be hand flying is a takeoff in a busy terminal with a level off at a low altitude. This can easily create an overload for the non-flying pilot. Now he has to monitor the level off, possible over speed, maybe a turn, contact departure, do the after takeoff checklist etc.

Re: Air France tailstrike
They may not have had a skid plate, but did they not have a tail strike caution light? Did they even know they had a tail strike? They didn’t say anything to ATC about a tail strike. They just said they were trying to avoid a long landing.

Re: Westjet cancelling flights due to cold in Calgary
I heard that in order to certify a new type to a certain temp, they had to test the aircraft in actual conditions on the ground. If you can’t find anywhere colder than -40 for months, how long do you want to delay certification?

Re: It can be Helpful to Check the Cabin Altitude During the Climb
Hmmm. It is probably best to follow the manufacture guidance in the QRH/abnormal procedure instead of screwing around with switches. As alluded to above, in this particular instance the cabin altitude/rate would have indicated normal or near normal given the warning didn’t come on until 30 000. The...

Re: It can be Helpful to Check the Cabin Altitude During the Climb
It does remind me that it is always best to try manual operation first before an emergency descent. Hmmm. Re: MH370 found 10 years ago
So with that …then the tip of a large wing (if as IMO would have been the highest point floating along … ie would have looked like a shark fin) could never have been below the surface (likely slowly sinking more over time) if indeed this was from that tragedy. Also, what’s going to be trailing behi...

Re: MH370 found 10 years ago
Ok …. except it leaves open in my mind that they didn’t try to bring it on board until all else failed (that ended up being “late in the day”)… by that I also envision they’d have tried to shake it off (well below the surface at that point) during daylight hours (ie short days down here that time o...

Re: MH370 found 10 years ago
Struggling with the net they wouldn’t lhave a chance (cam-phones usually safe in waterproof pouch) and seems to say there it was also late in the day. Very believable .., esp the part about getting the runaround when calling it in .. both times. Now no-one wants to step up and admit it they might h...

Re: MH370 found 10 years ago
They tried all day to free a massive airliner wing from their $20,000 net, then cut it loose and there's no pictures?
Did they have insurance on that net? I'm sure the insurance company would have liked to see some pictures.

Re: (*Not DH4*) DH8 Better do a final door check yourself
That was sort of my concern as well. It's one thing when you call it and it doesn't end up being necessary as a one off thing. But putting it in SOPs for events that likely are not a life threatening emergency, in an environment where there are eyes on you (on the ground at a controlled airport). I...

Re: Corporate Captain or Airline FO?
:) Where is all the airline hiring going on at? From all the applications I’ve submitted, with only 1 :) interview offer so far, airlines in Canada aren’t hire anyone with my type of experience. Where, just about every major airline in Canada. Porter is hiring with 1000hrs, JAZZ is hiring if you ha...

Yes, unfortunately you will probably never know why. They may not like something that you have posted on social media, or some kind of background check. What do they see when they google your name? . No clue. And i had internal reference from my buddy who works for them. But no luck I was suggestin...

Re: Incorrectly logging instrument time
This is from a recent TSB Accident report I just read. Got me thinking about this thread. https://www.tsb.gc.ca/eng/rapports-reports/aviation/2022/a22c0027/a22c0027.html Night visual flight Flying VFR at night involves numerous risks owing to poor visual cues. The fact that there are few or no visua...

Re: Ab initio training comes to Canada
And looking at the information trickling down in other threads, at least 2 of those airlines likely won't exist anymore before your training is finished... I don't see that as being as big a risk as a few posters suggest. I don't have inside knowledge on the program my airline is running, but I can...
