Re: YEG Applications process
Congrats to you all! To answer the questions few posts up. The test will assess you on many different areas. When I did it there were 8 tests total but it may be different now. Mental math, spatial reasoning, active listening, pattern recognition, and more I can't remember. The tests are designed so...

Re: Any updates on YYZ Training
You can receive an offer up to 18 months after entering the candidate pool (interview results). Like the other poster said, if you're willing to do other streams besides IFR, or are willing to train in another region - call talent acquisition (I think it's still Joanne), and tell them that.

Re: Where do FSS hires first get placed? Where were you first placed?
They will move you, your household goods, immediate family, and one vehicle to your posting. They provide temporary accommodation in a hotel, money for meals, and a rental car for you while you wait for your things. Some sites offer an isolated post allowance to help offset the higher cost of living...

Re: Where do FSS hires first get placed? Where were you first placed?
Not keen to give out too much details but here are the three general areas my class was posted. 1. Northern prairies 2. Northern BC 3. South BC interior Where you go is entirely dependant on who needs staff at the time you train. There's nothing you can really do to effect it so best not to worry ab...

Re: Would you say working as an air traffic controller is a job or a career?
I've known/heard of two people who left nav Canada other than for health/retirement reasons. One to become a stay at home parent, and the other to focus on a career in politics. Like the above commenter said, it's very rare for people to leave the company. Nav Canada is definitely a career and not a...

Re: FSS Course (YQM) - What to expect?
I am currently on course for FSS, about a month left to go. The post above properly answered a lot of your questions. For us, we had two weeks of ITA study/prep. But our course was loaded pretty late and I understand this varies based on the course. I would go with whatever HR is telling you. The te...

Re: YVR VFR - JULY 2017
There's a VFR course going on in July with two seats, both of which have been filled by internal FSS's who wish to make the transition to ATC. There will be another VFR course late this fall. I was told that they were unsure as to whether the course was going to run due to lack of instructors. I ha...

Re: Can someone from Vancouver help?
I will look into schools in the area, thanks for the suggestion! To answer the other question, I haven't spoken to the training staff in Surrey yet. They're supposed to call Monday. That being said I was told that relocation assistance isn't offered until on the job training.

Re: Moncton training calls?
I got the call for the Vancouver class as well, but I accepted it. It's going to be difficult and scary going to such a big new city for class room training. But after watching so many courses go by without getting a call, I figured it might be the only chance I'll get. Wish me luck everyone!

Just wanted to post and say thanks one last time to everyone who has provided great advice and conversation throughout the process. Go...

Re: Has anyone in Moncton FIR received a call for an in-person interview?
I'm sure there would be no hard feelings if you had to turn down a training offer due to financial reasons. They did just do another Assesment test a few weeks back so I imagine there will be more courses coming up next year. I know that Nav Canada has relocation assistance for existing employees (i...

Re: Has anyone in Moncton FIR received a call for an in-person interview?
From what I understand, offers for Moncton training will come out around the end of the year. VFR should start in February/March and IFR in April. So, I am guessing offers for VFR would be first and then offers for IFR training. Just wondering, since I qualified for IFR stream and if NAV Canada cal...

I agree that sounds like it would be quite stressful! Hopefully the calls come sooner rather than later. I imagine it would be tough to study the pre-course material while also getting your accommodations figured out, wrapping things up at your existing job, etc!

I've been emailing a bit with an HR employee in Moncton and they said that they are just finishing up with referral interviews and expect to be fielding offers come December. Edmonton and Moncton processes have been pretty well the same timing-wise so far, so hopefully you guys can expect the same!

Re: Has anyone in Moncton FIR received a call for an in-person interview?
Woohoo! I woke up to a green light on my take charge page! I was streamed for flight service specialist only, which is kind of disappointing since I was really hoping for VFR. Nevertheless, I plan on enthusiastically accepting any course offers that I (hopefully) receive. Armyman and any others who ...

Re: IFR, VFR and Tower salaries
Hi all, I am in the process of 'taking charge' of my career. Green lights all around in YUL FIR. I do, however, have some questions I was too embarrassed to ask the interviewers. Is there a list of towers sorted by their salary level (ie ATC 1-7) ? I've been searching for hours and have only found ...
