thanks for that image.
You can see the little teeny tiny VG's on the wing stub, inboard of the engine nacelles. None on the vertical stab (those small marks right near the rudder attach point are rivets and screws). so according to Lurch, that would make it a VII.

Re: C-FROH Cessna 414A gear torn off on landing CYKL
that aircraft DOES have the VG kit - you can clearly see on the outboard side of the engine nacelle the one part of the kit affixed to it. the little vortex generators on the wings would be next to impossible to see in this angle. and unless there was sufficient shadowing, same with the tail (if the...

Re: PC-12 off runway in YTS
Actually, yes, that crew was VERY LUCKY. Not in that it appears they did their procedures properly, but in the fact that the failure took place where it did, very close to a suitable airport. That had nothing to do with their training or how well they flew/followed procedures. That was just plain ol...

Re: PC-12 off runway in YTS
what Pelmut is saying (although I'm sure he doesn't realize it...) is that ALL single-engine flight is going to end in a "crash" if there's an engine failure, therefore there should be NO single-engine flying for hire with passengers...in VFR or IFR because the outcome is going to be the same. actua...

thanks Cat last time i said something similar after an accident several folks said i was being to "harsh", didn't have "proof", didn't "know all the facts", didn't "know the pilot". well, i do know how it works, and the thought processes that lead to bad decisions. and often, where lots of the exter...

I had a long lengthy post written out in the accident post. but, computer/web timed out before i could post it.... suffice to say, Transport has failed. again.... and, they don't get it, and it seems, don't care that they don't get it. bet pretty much anything that the pilot didn't wake up this morn...

How the hay did you get approved to hold the Ops Manager position? I can kinda see the Maintenance Manager, but the Regs are pretty clear, from 722.07: (2) Qualifications and Responsibilities of Operations Personnel (a) Operations Manager (i) Qualifications (A) hold or have held the appropriate lice...

Re: Colour Blind
Actually, being colour-blind, you can hold a Cat 1 medical, restricted, and still fly for anyone (702, 703, 704, 705- Being an Instructor however, you would not be able to teach the night portion of a Night Rating, only instruction at night with a student who already holds a Night Rating). How, you ...

You know what? this was NOT a "banner-towing accident". As sad as this is, this was yet another "flying accident". He was not towing a banner, nor in the process of picking one up, nor in the process of dropping one off. HE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF CIRCLING AROUND TO LAND. I really hope that people get...

Thanks Neil. thats been a long time coming...
and BTD, knew both those guys.... and familys.
The list grows longer every year, unfortunately.
Thats why some of us get really pi..ed off when someone does something so totally preventable and winds up as another statistic.

Re: Cessna 421
No, an aircraft doesn't know how many hours a pilot has, but this aircraft really is a little BIG airplane, as opposed to say a PA31, which is more like a big LITTLE airplane. Clunk has gobbs of experience with them, as do some others here, and C421s are not for low-time occasional fliers. There are...

try National Flyers Academy in Kitchener; they're owned by the Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre, and airport rumour is that WWFC is finally going to shut NFA down after the Cadet contract finishes this month, after owning and operating it separately for several years. I think they have 4 of them.

yup, getting an awful lot of new pilots that go "really, you can do that?" or "that kind of airplane can do that" lately.... it just seems to get worse as time goes by... along with an awful lot of knee-jerk reactions from people who should know better (young cfi's, tc, etc) if thats the way those i...

Hey Cat, did tc tell you that you couldn't use an aircraft without brakes on both sides for ab-initio training??!!!!! we've done it in several different types over the years, when the audit came around, the response varied from nothing said at all, to "cool, neat old airplane" to "how did you do tha...

I was hoping more for a slap-in-the-face wake-up call, or un-dumbing down of aviators. I specifically posted the topic here, instead of in the general section (i see there's a thread about the accident there now too), in hopes that even 1 student, and LOTS more instructors, would be reminded of the ...
