Re: Survival kits
Some great advice guys! I forgot about the para cord for boot laces, then I looked at my flight boots and yep, there they are. Best part about para cord is that if you take it apart you have a lot of small but strong rope. Nice thing about para cord is that you don't have to walk around with no boot...

Survival kits
With thoughts of flying float planes crossing my mind I got to thinking about a survival kit. I luckily have never needed one aside from 6 hours spent on a lake north of Campbell river after the mags died on the C172 float plane while I waited for our AME to navigate his way down the labyrinth like ...

Re: Remove Scratches On Windshield???????
Micro mesh works great! I have used it a number of times to remove scratches and swirls in windscreens. For mainly flat surfaces lee valley tools has a kit you can attach to a random orbit sander. It removes the elbow grease requirements just be very careful to let the tool do the work. Don't put an...

Alternate Category Exam
Hi all! I am working on my Rotary wing conversion again and am prepping for the written exam. I have searched for a study guide to the transport Alternate Category Exam - helicopter but I haven't found anything. Has anyone written this exam recently? I am looking for where to concentrate my study. A...

Re: Perfect recreational plane if you could afford to fly it
I saw an albatross that had a luxury interior a few years ago. Wet bar, cabins all sorts of good stuff. Best part was the two jet skis tucked into their fairings under the wings. I always liked that idea.

Nova Scotia; The rumor I heard was a sky dive outfit tried to run one under a special type certificate. I am not 100% sure of the details but by the time the dust settled with insurance, operating costs and TC hoops it was too cost prohibitive and they whent back to the ol' reliable 182. I would lov...

Re: Pick a plane to fly around the world
I have to agree with Justwork, a stagger wing would be great! Here is someone doing just that! http://www.captainbiff.com/ I met up with him at the Lethbridge air show; he didn’t have the stagger wing with him at the time. He was a really nice guy and had a ton of pictures of his travels. I was tryi...

6000 hrs = $4,400 a month?
Just looking at Aircrane ad in the job postings http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=69439 and I was taken back a bit. The company wants 6,000 hours but they are only willing to pay $4,400 monthly. Is it just me or dose this seem a little low. Even if it is as a co-jo with the difficul...

Veveritza, Welcome to AvCanada! This topic has been discussed adnauseum (many times before). I would recommend the search function and then post follow up questions. Re: Rotary to Floats...
Having recently gone the other way (floats to rotary) I believe you will find that most of your VFR chopper skills will convert nicely. There are many similarities between the two. Landing into wind is pretty much a must with seaplanes. Most approaches aren’t laid out so you need to visualize how yo...

Re: Operating a CJ-6 or Yak 52 in Canada
Meecka I meant no insult to your occupation, I would by no means expect a AME to put their licence on the line by pencil whipping an annual inspection that I did myself. I have worked with many AMEs and have nothing but the utmost respect for the work they do. I understand a large percentage of airc...

Operating a CJ-6 or Yak 52 in Canada
Hey all! Hope everyone’s summer is going as well as mine! A fair bit of flying with minimal weather problems! I have been dreaming about owning my own plane since 1999 when I first took a 172 round the patch by myself (ok I will admit it was 1986 when my dad made me a wooden helicopter that I could ...

Folk hero? Bite my shiny metal.....
You know for a "folk hero" he sure looks like he is trying to hide from the public. If he was a folk hero he would have been holding his head high making a stand for what he believed in. All I saw was a kid who finally got caught behaving badly and was being hauled off by the police. We haven’t hear...

Dude! That is a Bell 412 "Outlaw" operated by Allied wings at 3 CFFTS. Chances are the guys you saw where Allied wings employees, they get to take the choppers out once and a while. Or it could be a phase 3 student cross country. The reason you see the Canadian forces markings under the paint is bec...

Re: Float plane crashes off B.C. with up to four on board
CTV pointed out that the pax where too intoxicated to take the water taxi so they took the sea plane, what the heck are 3 drunks doing on a sea plane in the first place! They never should have been allowed on board! I wonder if this fact will be researched further. 3 people who are drunk have almost...

The names have been released. I knew the pilot quite well. I flew with him a lot and he checked me out on his Taylorcraft. I will never forget our flight to Williams Lake. His passion for flying was second to none. A better friend/pilot/engineer you could not find! Rest in peace my friend. http://ww...

I did my research! I did a ton of it. I got the whole "they baby boomers are retiring you had better get your commercial license quick" nonsense too from the owner of the flight school I attended. I also read a lot in Wings Magazine of how Canada alone will need 10,000 qualified pilots (my instructo...

Too bad you don’t have your Canadian citizenship. You cant work in Canada until you are a citizen or have a working visa. Re: New To the Forums, A couple of Questions
Welcome to the forum Mike, I guess the 1st question is what do you mean part Canadian? Do you have Canadian citizenship? You are going to need the right to work in the Canadian airline industry. 1. Converting from FAA to TC is fairly easy, just a couple of written tests at the commercial level, at t...

Chopper Career progression
Hey all, I am doing my conversion to rotary wing flying and to be honest I don’t know much about the industry. I have always been in awe of the versatility of helicopters and have admired the skill that chopper pilots have. But I have been fairly ignorant of the industry as a whole. That being said ...

Re: S African working in Zambia wanting to relocate to Canad
Gareth, I had a look at your credentials on the “Hire me” forum. Before you spend your time and money on immigrating to Canada I would suggest you take a good hard look at what the industry is like. With 250TT you are more than likely going to need an instructor rating or find a job sweeping a hange...
