Re: 2020 Hiring

What's the upgrade time for a guy OTS coming to mainline? Hard to guess accurately with the new PTA just coming into effect and the fact nothing is constant in aviation. If I had to bet on an approximate time frame I’d guess 10-11 years given current rates. Fak you sure have an opinion on just abou...

As of 7 days ago, January 1st, they have YoS.
Better wait till they actually dish out the YOS level compensation before saying that. It’s already 12 months overdue, there’s zero reason to have faith in this management.

I have gouge for my aircraft. If I don’t see 50 kts with a good decel by the 3 board, I execute a go around, giving me 3,000 ft to get airborne. I feel that once the aircraft touches the ground, crews are sometime mentally committed to landing. There is always a go around option if you know your ai...

Re: One List is Back!!

Glad to hear the one list is back! How is the whole PTA thing going? I heard flow has stopped for an undetermined amount of time? Any truth to the rumours? The PTA is in force and enforceable. The rumours are true, but flow is promised to begin within the month, if they haven't already begun. Promi...

Re: Well, isn't that special

Highly unlikely! I look at the last profit share announcement email from Mr. Sims as a good indicator. Through genius management they were able to produce record profits while dealing with the max grounding. Then two paragraphs later a spiel about how us “westjetters” are lucky to have jobs and not ...

Re: One List is Back!!

Of course management is going to be looking for jobs... they're the ones who have a target on their back. Onex isn't going to want to pay hundreds of people to do the jobs of tens. As far as pilots are concerned, why wouldn't you always have an eye out? Air Canada pilots apply for WestJet too. It g...

Hi FlyAlberta! I get it might not be exact dollars but my understanding is it’s $28,800 over 24 months. This keeps you topped up until you hit step 3 pay after 2 years. Still a fantastic uplift vs starting back at starting WJ wage sorry to mislead by saying “no pay cut”. I guess I should have said ...

Unfortunately by far the most expensive crews rates in Canada.
Still sub 80$ in YYC, YYZ, YUL but the cheapest I’ve seen in YVR is over 150$.

Even the best training/sops in the world wouldn’t matter when you’re blatantly breaking some other rules.

Re: One List

Encore pilots can celebrate like they won a lottery, maybe say a free car. Eventually they will receive the car and realize it’s a 1996 cavalier, that barely runs. In the long run that car ends up costing them more than the actually value of the car, in fact they could have had a newer nicer car for...

Just because you can hold the left seat seniority wise doesn’t mean you’ll pass the assessment and upgrade course. One would hope most pilots are sufficiently self-aware of their abilities and experience level.
Oh really that’s crazy I didn’t know that (sarcasm).

Re: One List

I guess upgrade times just improved significantly then ! New mainline FOs can expect left seat within 2-3 years! You know nothing John Snow. There’s no shortage of 30, 40, and 50 year olds at Encore with 7,000 to 10,000 plus hours of industry experience who joined 3 to 4 years ago when the Mainline...

Let me put it this way: Pilot ‘A’ getting hired at Encore with 250 hours fresh out of college at the age of 23. Pilot ‘B’ getting hired at Westjet, a month later, with 5000 hours of industry experience at the age of 35. But somehow pilot A will be senior to pilot B. Just does not make sense. You kn...

Re: One List

Didn't realize brevity was a requirement for this board! One of the biggest complaints with the last One List vote was that there were no bump down provisions for lay-offs. Now we have them. Maybe the cash for stock options isn't good enough for you for a PTA, but we won't get a higher cash value f...

Re: One List

At this point all this arguing is pointless, the vote closes this week and I’d guess the majority of pilots have cast their votes already.
In the mean time, transat, sunwing, AC are all probably better companies to work for, so there’s better carrots to chase.

Re: One List

And voting for the one list will be bad for wawcon because the company can leverage that to pay Encore pilots less. In the long run though, it will tie the company's hands in recruitment and create a seniority that is not in line with experience. It will be bad even for Encore guys because even tho...

Re: One List

All the arguing and mud slinging aside. The road shows are done and the new PTA vote began today, so we will soon have an answer. If I was able to bet one of my mediocre paycheques on the results I’d put it on NO.

I could have gone to Swoop while I was with Encore as a DOC and ran away as fast as I could knowing what all the work rules are. Strato, I believe it’s safe to assume all mainline pilots do not care what you think about them, as you shouldn’t the opposite. This is only a job, family and friends should be you’re only real concern. Maybe if you realized this you wouldn’t be so angry. Secondly you’re anger is directed in wrong d...
