Re: WestJet Group Hiring Freeze

I just read the CBC News article about the flight attendants expecting massive lay-offs. That's not all, read the part about the YVR - LAX flight today. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/westjet-flight-attendants-layoffs-covid-19-1.5497037 Yesterday I did an MCO flight and our load 2 days befo...

Re: Grab a seat. The music is stopping

I hope you're right. Hopefully AC losing 28% of its stock value and $3.9 billion of market cap is only a "buying opportunity". Just saying that it may take more than shifting a few tails around to make that up by June. Especially if pax loads and yields fall by any appreciable amount, which is hard...

cloak & sarg, If you actually want harmony and no 'strife' in WJ and you are not making you argument solely for you own self betterment, then, while I applaud you, you are missing the big picture. While your ideas of 100% flow to BOTL or somehow grandfathering Encore pilots while still voting NO ar...

Re: One List

Once again, I don't have an issue with flow, but to transfer ones DOH from a regional to a mainline is not only contrary to industry standard, it's counterproductive. Look at the mess it's already created. I hope those who pushed for this one-list concept in the beginning, now have enough humility ...

Re: One List

And voting for the one list will be bad for wawcon because the company can leverage that to pay Encore pilots less. In the long run though, it will tie the company's hands in recruitment and create a seniority that is not in line with experience. It will be bad even for Encore guys because even tho...

Re: One List

Never was a supporter of the "one list" concept in which one carries their WJE DOH to mainline. It wasn't industry standard, and was bound to implode eventually. Was a strong supporter of "flow" however. Nothing personal against Encore pilots, but expecting to bypass OTS hires at a mainline is not ...

Re: One List

At the end on the day you will need your employer on side for a single list or flow through. I very much doubt Onex will entertain anything that would make a possible sale of an asset more problematic. Good observation. Onex will likely have little appetite for merging WestJet and Encore which redu...

-There are many interesting discussions and debates going forward on what any type of seniority transfer should look like. Since, to a certain extent, I am involved in those debates I will refrain from commenting publicly on my opinion. What I will emphasize though is that for all the Encore pilots...

15 min spent in a Beaver with the Baron Stol and Wing Angle mod flown in any configuration and speed will convince even the most hardened contrarian, of the improved safety benefits. Unfortunately, in commercial aviation, these mods will add little to the bottom line. It would interesting to object...

Re: One list

JBI you keep writing like it's only the future of the Encore pilots that will be affected by the wording of the LOA, it's not. I'm not expecting a no vote to lead to a reopening of the CBA for anyone nor am I hoping to gain any other advantages or punish anyone. If you're correct in that full up & ...

Re: One list

I've presented information on both the lay-off provisions and the near impossibility of renegotiating them. With regard to the final post regarding the previous Encore pilots not getting the REIP, it's very unfortunate but the company and Encore MEC was not in a legal position to provide such a per...

According to a mainline friend who listened to the All pilot call tonight, the WJ MEC indicated that it will NOT ask to try and renegotiate (As is 100% their right to do so) if the LOA vote fails. A "no" vote does NOT mean they try to renegotiate. A "no" vote means mainline pilots will not get a ch...

Re: One list

Section 11.03 gives the parties an option to cancel the agreement. I I'm not saying don't worry about the details. Other than the lay-off provisions and vague notions that mainline pilots can somehow use the One List LOA as leverage for better working conditions at Swoop or mainline, I've not heard...

In the mainline CA, Section 1-1 deals with Scope. Section 1-1.03 provides a max amount of regional aircraft at "WestJet Encore and/or through a CPA or similar arrangement" Section 1-1.04 provides that Swoop can operate up to 30 NB aircraft (without additional mainline capacity) Section 1-1.05 is th...

Amazing to read the OP and all the answers. Does no one actually love flying enough anymore to say...let me fly. Pay me , and treat me fairly? It seems it is always about the next step up the ladder, so to speak. I find it amazing that any real pilot would choose the right seat when the left seatis...

Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...

A few of the OTS guys won’t be downgraded due to their status as managers, as for the rest I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if it’s a freeze or protection. Why do you guys care anyway? It doesn’t affect you. And that may be the case but not all managers need to be Captains. Westjet set that ...

Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...

Pay protection is a Pay Freeze. You are protected from not having to start at year 1 Swoop FO rate of $55ish per hour. That is it. For example if the current WJ pay scales were to stay the same as they are today, in 5 years you’d be eligible for your first pay increase above your current $103hr as ...

Paul Rask would likely be a contender.

Bob did get married in flight in a Twin Otter, but he was flying the 99 at the time and not rated on the Twin. About 10k of his 30k occurred before he started flying the Twin Otter. Still a great guy and missed.

i know that time for sure counts, being I cant fly over 60 hours in a 7 day period, 1200 annually Ect.... but if instructors don't have "duty days" does that mean I don't have to count these days towards the 720.19 time free from duty numbers? At minimum for CAR's you would need 3 days off after yo...

Re: Buffalo Joe temporary shut down?

Nitpicking but a BE02 is a King Air 200. The 1900 is a B190. Strange, my King Air 200 Type rating says BE20 in my license. Well from a flight planning perspective according to ICAO DOC 8643 - Aircraft Type Designators , the identifier for the 1900 is B190. It's odd that they would use the wr...

Re: WPPA visits ALPA

ALPA dues are based on 1.9% of the pilots salary. No WJ pilots "salary" is 315K. Their Total Compensation includes SALARY, ESP, Profit Share, Stock Options, etc etc. Year 12 Captain $196.62hr X 930 straight time hours= $182,857 @ 1.9% = $3474 which with the tax deduction would be approx $2200 yr.
