Re: Ferry piston aircrafts across Canada
Risk is dependent, how long has the a/c been sitting, was it well maintained. WX is it's own risk, you have to be willing to say it's not happening today whether it's IFR with no suitable alternate in rate or VFR through the passes.

Re: WestJet Sunwing merger and seniority
Suppose it goes to arbitration, which im sure it will, then you should expect anything. An arbitrator will not severely disadvantage one group over another. It won't happen, so quit with the BOTL talk. An arbitrator will strive to minimize a negative impact on as many people as possible, and I susp...

Doesn't the email say when you can reapply? The email said “Thank you for your interest. We decided to go with different candidates. We encourage you to check back for future career opportunities” So that’s why I am curious when to reapply. What's changed since you last applied? If they went with a...

Re: DHC-2 Aviation Headset
I used the DC H10-13X for years on -2,-3 and -6 and Jetstream with no issues.
I had a friend loan me his A20 on a few occasions the Bose has almost no passive NR, so if the active fails you have nothing at least the DC still give you passive reduction. The Bose where more comfortable for a long day.

The WSP got worse too. Went from 20% free money to 10%... EASY NO! Sorry, everyone was demanding that they should take 10% of the WSP and roll it into payrates. That's what happened. Had they left the 10% in it would have done nothing to address our take home pay issue. You can't bait and switch th...

15 percent more for perdiems? Are you kidding? Food is up 50 percent while on the road. Tax free perdiems maximums are set by the federal government. You can't just increase tax free per diems by 50% without incurring tax implications We could have come close though. The current GoC per diem rate i...

Re: Lynx Hiring process
No YYZ base, YVR base, or any base is planned. Currently no jumpseat or Zfares. No staff travel. The flair pay match is just a rumour started here. No seniority or bidding system is in place. Captain pay is 100k a year. Many of us that started have moved on. Mostly to Cargojet and AirCanada. Those ...

Re: Meanwhile in 'Merica
I believe during previous negotiations the union agreed to abandon strike ambitions in return for company voluntarily ceding Swoop representation to the same bargaining unit and both agreed to binding arbitration. Some seem to assume that a strike is the panacea to all their ills and life will gran...

Re: Recruiting Video
I never claimed to have the pulse of the entire pilot group, many others seem to do that! The majority is not always right though, remember that! The majority might not make the best choice, but you do seem to have a desire that favours the management side. You've made many arguments on the cost an...

Re: How many WS pilots want YUL?
Thanks for your input on the uncertainty surrounding the merger. While i do agree that they will start off running the airline separately, i think that it’s inevitable that all pilots will get merged into one list at some point in the future. If that happens, then it’ll be a free for all when it co...

That’s crazy to me. I did not know that was the case. Aren’t there DEC positions? News flash, since the covid pandemic hit, there have been plenty of expats coming back home going right seat as most had no choice. I have heard of some going to Air Canada, starting on flat pay at 60k a year. We're t...

Re: How long to get YYC base
The latest rumor is YEG Swoop base is closing anyway and being replaced with a YXX base (WTF?). The main reason why upgrades at WJ went from 8 to 10 years are the 150 Swoop CA spots, one contract and we get back to 8 years (depending on ‘the growth story’), with YOS that is a pretty good bump. Is t...

I like your ideas man I agree with alot of it, and the parts that I dont agree with I deffinotly still see where your comming from. I just fundamentally have a different prospective of encores importance to WJ. It may have drifted from its intended purpose. But that doesnt mean it's useless, I mean...

And this is why I'm thinking of voting "no" until they offer us something that actually adresses the issue of pilot retention and career progression, such as offering years of service transfer to mainline. You're ignoring the facts separate companies separate MECs. There's no PTA, so unless Encore ...

There is no way a smoke filled cabin absolutely full of old / fat / half drunk adults and small children, with half the exits blocked, would evacuate in anywhere close to 90 seconds. But whatever— I think the answer to your question is AF358, the crash in YYZ. A trained crew, near full AC, real pas...

I'm not as pessimistic, but definitely watching closely. It's true that the company has been beating the cost reduction drum pretty hard lately, but I'm not aware of them saying they're actually trying to compete with Flair (100% off base fare, for instance) on the WJ side, and if I'm not mistaken ...

Re: Electric Airliner a Step Closer
Not according to Heart's website. You're hauling 1900 loads at the cost of of a 50 seat turboprop. Competitive Operating Costs: – cash operating cost per seat similar to 50-seats turboprop The cost per seat is equivalent to that of a 50 seat machine. A 1900 costs substantially more per seat as comp...

Re: Electric Airliner a Step Closer
Great for the Vancouver Island runs like goldeneagle described. Stretching its legs to the interior though I wonder what impact running anti-ice systems will have on range. The artists renderings obviously aren't a fantastic source, but a heated wing could use up a lot of energy -- although I'm no ...

Re: Brace for impact
ALPA will be organizing a vote to cancel the PTA among the WestJet mainline and swoop pilots. Again, why? Is the theory that severing a source of new hires will lead to a labour shortage that they can use in negotiations this fall? Or is it some other thing? Seems odd to already be saying, “Gee I s...
