15 years after I asked the question initially and the debate has started up again. Impressive. Glad the old question can still generate a bit of thought and discussion.
This has got to be some sort of record for this “esteemed” message board.

Re: Any hiring news??
Hi all- just wondering if anyone going through the hiring process has heard anything regarding the upcoming February ground school? Has anyone been contacted yet for it? Thanks.

Re: So any guesses as to when hiring will resume?
I had done the interview and was waiting for a sim spot when they stopped- so I'm also pretty early into the whole process.

Re: Qatar Airways Pilot Road Show Toronto & Montreal
Was thinking of attending this, but have never gone to something like this before...What is the process at one of these things? Is it like an informal interview- i.e. wear a shirt and tie and bring in some resumes? If anyone can shed some light on this, it would be much appreciated.

So any guesses as to when hiring will resume?
As the title says, anyone have any guesses when hiring will resume? And do the folks who have been put in the hiring pool get called first when things start up again?

Re: 2011 Ground Schools
Just been reading through all of this...I did an interview in April and then got the email about no sim spots at the minute...does anyone have any idea how long the wait may be or even if there is still potential for the hiring process to continue at the moment...does the fall look good for more gro...

Completing the ATPL
Was unable to find an answer elsewhere (perhaps I didn't do a good enough search)...anyway, my predicament is this: I am currently PPC'd on a PC-12, have both A exams passed and have all of the time requirements completed for the ATPL but do not have the multi-engine test within the past 12 months. ...

So I gather the calls have gone out then. Have they hired everyone they need or is the process still ongoing? Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks.

Re: Brantford Flying Club or WWFC for comm/multi/ifr
Having experienced both places, I wholeheartedly put my vote with Brantford. Not that WWFC is a bad place, it just wasn't my cup of tea. I preferred the atmosphere at Brantford- laid back but still very professional. The instructors, airplanes, and airport/ training area are top notch and you couldn...

Re: Durham Flight Center
I haven't heard much about Durham myself, but if I was you I would take a trip down there and speak to the Chief Flight Instructor and get a tour. Also, if you get an opportunity, speak to current and former students and get feedback from them to see how they enjoy it. I would also do the same thing...

Re: Flight Training Near Hamilton
Brantford Flight Centre is by far one of the best places in the Hamilton area. Great people, aircraft in great condition and the airport and training area are fantastic. I did my Commercial Licence, Flight Instructor rating and instructed there for a while and loved it. Great place and good value fo...

Re: YCC plates and Cornwall IFR school
Did my initial IFR at Cornwall this past March (2008) and absolutely loved it there. Fantastic place- they treat their customers and their employees well there. Instructors were good. Examiner was helpful and very fair. The Manager of the school even helped to find me accomodation for my week there....

Thair81, From my reading, the selection of the alternate has nothing to do with what you choose to shoot at your main destination, but... Per the CAP GEN (Jul5/07) pp 20-21: You can use a GPS approach at the alternate providing the following conditions are met (pardon some paraphrasing): a) An appr...

I am in a similar boat to Commanchepilot. I understand that if you use GNSS at your destination, you must base your alternate on traditional nav aids. And if you use traditional nav aids at your destination, then you can use GNSS for your alternate. Hopefully I'm right so far. My question is this: I...

I got a student line of credit but tried not to tap into it too deeply. For what it's worth, the way I did it was that after I graduated from university, I moved back home with my folks and got a part-time job (25-30 hours a week). My folks allowed me to live at home for free so that all the money I...

Just as a heads up, you can scratch Grimsby Aviation off your list because it ceased operations in October 2005. Also, keep in mind that this is a big decision. Make sure that you find the school that is the right fit for you. Don't get hung up on "who's the cheapest" or "which school has the fancie...

I used the C****** books and the Sabrejet book aswell. Both were helpful. However, the Sabrejet book has/had quite a few errors in it...so double-check your answers with other references (From the Ground Up, FIG, FTM, etc) when you mark your tests. Funnily enough, it was this re-checking of the answ...
