Re: Deregulation in Canada
chu me Boris Karloff could have been the Prime Minister for all it mattered!! The simple fact is that for decades operators had been complaining - very vocally in some cases like Canadian Pacific Airlines and Pacific Western Airlines - and the general consensus when I first entered the Canadian avia...

Re: Deregulation in Canada
Chu Me Thanks for reminding me of Bill C-18 - like you I lived through the process - having worked in the industry since 1973. As is usual the Bill got passed after the deed was actually done and the process was designed to be gradual. New regulation introduced in 1986 Bill C-18) - finalized in 1988...

Re: Deregulation in Canada
Deregulation – some good things – some not so good things!! Before deregulation the aviation industry consisted of two groups – the big guys and the little guys. Since the big guys had the government in their deep pockets – especially the government corporation of Trans Canada Air / Air Canada and ...

Bede Propeller Bolts for Wood Fixed Pitch Propeller Wood propellers require a balance between too loose and to tight in regards to the clamping force of the fasteners as applied to the hub faces. The correct torque on the fasteners will produce a clamping force sufficient to prevent movement of the ...

BWL IIRC Hamilton Aviation ( The Late Don Hamilton of Airspray) in Edmonton was one of - or the only distributor for the Dornier Aircraft back in the late 50s and 60s. Production list for the DO 28 aircraft here; http://www.siai-marchetti.nl/do28.html There seem to be 4 aircraft that might fit your ...

Re: Mosquito!
For Mosquitoes in particular, I think when restoring them, the further gone they are, the more appropriate it is to make them airworthy, since that would involve a new airframe more or less, with the metal parts restored. If there was an example with the original airframe still able to hold up its ...

Re: C-208B start temp
Boreas Would you get a Gen Amps readout if this was the case? If so, you could easily confirm the situation. Not that I have ever seen. My understanding of the effect is that the generator windings act as a "Dynamic Brake" that works against the starter effort. In the same way for example as the gea...

Re: C-208B start temp
Andy mtl I don't have a lot of time on the 208 but I do have 40 years on PT6 engines. All of the installations that I have seen include a "Field Disconnect Relay" - or something similar but called a different name - that is installed in the "Generator" Field circuit. The purpose of the disconnect re...

Re: Trans Air Twin Otter God's Lake Narrow's, MB
Lots of fuelling out of drums… dunno what the big deal is. The skinny line leading into the cockpit in the first picture is connected to the bleed air system and one engine is run to supply the air pressure through a regulator to pressurize the fuel drum. Pressure pushes fuel up the standpipe and t...

Lethal Hobo The short answer is NO!!! with a possible YES!!! Now your post speaks to "Attending" a course - which I ...

Re: Running hot
Check the piston ring end gaps.
I had a cylinder turn blue on the initial run-in due to this problem and it was only the 1 cylinder that was affected. I don't remember if it was the top one but on choked cylinders it is often the culprit.

CamAero Thanks for the old Cessna 180 photo with the SS Klondike!!! Brought back some memories. Here is a picture of the Klondike in 1957 - Whitehorse - this was when they had all been removed from service - and before the Klondike was moved and of course the big fire. Aviation content!!
