Re: Is being Relief Pilot detrimental to career
Most pilots I talk to who were laid off prior to this last round think that anyone who is willingly a RP is an idiot. See and I think anyone working more than 9 days a month is an idiot. To each their own! RP is a fantastic way to spend time at home while the kids are young and the wife needs help....

Log 66.6% for 3 crew. Log 50% for 4 crew.
That's how they did it during your Indoc. So continue that.

Re: Negotiations
All this talk of Jazz "releasing" is ridiculous. When you go to AC you QUIT Jazz. And Jazz has no say in when and how you choose to quit. If AC wanted the Jazz people in a PIT course Jazz would have no say and it certainly does not require a "release". AC stopped the hiring to save what little block...

Everyone in Canada that I've seen wears them ON the pocket. However, the majority of U.S pilots wear them above the pocket.

Was an A Cut Above customer for a long time but like you I bailed last year due to crazy costs. https://flightuniform.com This was my solution. Re: Air Canada Pre Employment Medical
20/20 corrected for each eye individually is Air Canada's requirement at the initial medical. I'm not sure about the uncorrected as that has been relaxed in the past. But your corrected vision has to be 20/20. However these days laser eye surgery is muscular more accepted in the industry. If you hav...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Absolutely no issue other than the minor delay you will take completing the process. Lots of people have to take the assessment multiple times. There are no wrong answers but the test asks the same questions in a whole bunch of different ways. If your answers are "inconsistent" the system will flag ...

YVR 220 base
Anyone feel like gazing into their crystal ball? Seems inevitable that they will have to open a Bombardabus base out west soon. Seems well suited for California flying as well as a regional replacement machine for places like YLW, YXT, YXS, YXJ. With Jazz having ...."crewing constraints" do you thin...

Re: How old is to old to go to AC?
Ya i don't understand this line of thinking. You don't keep your DOH on this imaginary "ALPA master list" when you move from say Jazz to West Jet. Or Bearskin to Canadian North. Or Calm Air to Cargojet. Or Flightcraft to Flair.....you get the point....AC becoming ALPA will change nothing in this reg...

Re: Hiring after DECEMBER
Does anyone know why the negotiating team elected to go this route of an extra lump sum payment? why not simply raise the hourly rate? I guess it achieves the same goal but from the outside it just seems like a backwards, overcomplicated way of doing things just wondering if theres more going on here?

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
The math is specific to my situation of course, and ultimately it depends on the pay ceiling of your previous operator. But I was hired at 28. In my case, modifying flat pay moves the needle of my career earnings an insignificant amount because I can do 37 years at AC. 4 years of flat pay is less th...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Not many people are willing to martyr their whole career just so they can say they stuck it to the man and said no to AC. If your under 35 that decision means your wiling to leave millions of dollars on the table over the course of your career. Everyone knows that flat pay sucks, but everyone also k...

Re: How long to hold yvr base
Nov 21st and Dec 7th class had YVR 37 spots on the equipment offering. So if you have good luck the wait time is potentially zero.
Right now best case is YVR right away, and absolute worst case is a 12 month wait

Re: What will Jazz turn Into?
Out of curiosity what is the pay lagging in comparison to? What other sub 80 seat regional pays their guys 150k + ? I'm convinced that there is a solid group of younger individuals that have made their choice to stay and are happy at jazz. They will eventually find their way into committees and unio...

Re: Is Jazz the right choice
Read my post again. Comparing Jazz to a 703 operator makes you lose all credibility for a debate. 703: 100,000+ per year salary for a king air + benefits 15 days a month worked Usually does not involve night flying Home every night Does own paperwork via flight planning software May have to clean a...

Re: Rejecting a Job offer
For some people getting the job offer and then turning it down is important. Then you don't spend the next 30 years wondering if you would have made it. You know you made it. You can't actually say that you made a CHOICE to stay unless you rejected an offer. Otherwise it's all hypothetical.

Pascan and NWAL are the only 2 junkstream operators left in Canada now that Integra is no more. Both operators do on wing training for PPC and sim in the states if they have a contract that requires it. No sims in Canada

Re: New hire bids
Yes. You are awarded a position. Then you train for the position you've been awarded. Having a PPC never enters the equation. But, in order for them to offer DEC they have to have an open captain position in the system that no pilot currently on property has bid for. And given the composition of the...

Re: New hire bids
Wouldn't surprise me. There are still quite a few individuals out west who were Captains pre-covid that are sitting in the right seat today. Most have 2-4 YOS, But None of them are willing to chase the left seat east of YYC. I fear more western reductions.
