Re: Is this the new norm?

Take a few minutes and read over the requirements for the IF rating. FTus are notorious for over teaching in terms of hours, underteaching in terms of quality. The sim is not weather dependent. Get your procedures down pat on the sim. If you already have a multi and a CPL, 10 hours in an actual airc...

Re: Is this the new norm?

As to the 152 idea by CWE; I don,t think he understood the original discussion was about instrument training when he suggested using it for a ppl. I have no idea about specific aircraft requiring certification for IFR, but I did believe that certain nav/comm requirements had to be met as well as pit...

Re: expired medical question

It is interesting as this all about TC... 1. You would not have insurance, and if your company has a breech of warrenty clause in their insurance, your liability could run into a very large figure, and you may not be able to declare bankruptcy and get out of it. A lifetime of pain and regret, For wh...

Re: Having trouble flaring?

One of the biggest errors I have noticed with (licensed) pilots, is their approach speed is to fast. Makes things a bit more of a challange when you get close to the runway.

In any event, as was wisely suggested by others, the internet is not the place to get advice.

Re: Iskwew Air

The rather simple fact is that you either have to make a profit as a company,or you won’t be in business. (OR, in some cases, be subsidized.) While I wish them the best, all the hype seems to be on this being an historical achievement, rather than looking at the hard cold business numbers. Maybe tha...

Re: Instructor Pay

The issue that is being perpetuated , as has been mentioned, is that FTUs only consider an instructor to be working when they are billing out. There is zero consideration for the instructors time. It is not how other industries pay their people. And yes, it is all about pilots who have been brainwas...

Re: Drama Queen pax runs to CBC

Gotta agree.
She did not take ownership of her sensationalist first article,

But she obviously tried to add some balance . I thought she did quite a good job.

Maybe she could reinterview the first safety expert who felt unsafe and see if he agrees with the second article.

Re: Should I find a new instructor, or is this a normal first few lessons?

No instructor Should be using their cell phone at all during a lesson, other than that related to the lesson. This is a mention it once. Then talk to the CFI for a new instructor if it happens again. Your instructor should be totally focussed on instructing you, not texting, calling, or otherwise di...

Well, I apologize for doubting your intentions.
In fact, I am quite excited about the opportunity to fly one.
Can you advise who in Canada is renting these right now?
I believe there are 3 registered in Canada

Altiplano.

Maybe ask the safety expert who felt unsafe. Or the reporter that made this a newsworthy incident.

Re: Drama Queen pax runs to CBC

I am a member of the public. And while this news article made me feel unsafe, Until I read the words from a safety expert, I had no idea I was cheating death every time we went missed. I think , as pilots, and pax, we all owe the famed passenger, and the great news reporter a big thank you. Will I f...

I have to wonder.... Who would choose a company name that they have to explain to their clients how to pronounce....and make it difficult enough to spell to frustrate googling it..? I think this start up needs more than an awsome CP. But maybe, as someone posted there is government (taxpayer) money ...

KD down from 13 pilots in april to one 500hr captain a couple 250hr wonder copilots with fresh PCCs and has no CP. All flights cancelled today... Hmmmmm. Maybe there is an opportunity presenting itself. And if awesomeness trumps flight experience, maybe companies can find Cpts for 30k a year, and F...

Jonny., Thanks for taking the time to reference and post. I was a bit confused (more than usual) by the comments about light work schedules that seemed to indicate a part time position was possible. Three full time management positions. One plane that typically will allocate about 25% of gross reven...

Re: Iskwew Air

On a more serious note, can a 703 ops have a part time CP? I find it hard to see, with all TC’s personnel demands, how a one plane operation can make a go of it. Just to much TC mandated management and regulatory requirements One plane ops are pretty much going the way of the dinasaur. Perhaps it is...

Making a bit of an assumption there my friend. I am using the source documents (AIM, Air Command Weather Manual, FTGU, etc) and only turning to you fine folks when both those and what I can learn from googling fail me. Well, my instructor rating expired about 30 years ago. Weather Ways, I think, be...
