Worldwide ONC charts...?
Hello all... So last time I checked (many, many years ago) if anyone wanted to fly anywhere in the world, all they had to to was to buy the corresponding ONC/TPC chart for the part of the world they wanted to fly... I gather that ONC/TPC charts were discontinued in February 2010... So they were repl...

KLM213 missed approach @ YVR (Nov 6th)
I was driving near YVR today around 1:35 PM and saw a KLM on final (26R) at about 500 ft... I got my eyes back on the road for a few seconds, looked up again, and saw the KLM (A333) on a steep climb before reaching the runway's threshold... "Whoa! Missed approach"! First time I even witness an airli...

Not unusual for airlines to add odd anniversary badges here and there... sometimes whole planes can be re-painted... Re: Lake St. John accident
Sorry to hear PilotDAR was involved - I caught the original story last night and was hoping to hear the opposite. He's an extremely credible member of this forum who consistently gives back with educated, experienced, and humble contributions to those threads with which he gets involved. Here's hop...

Re: Proper fuel mixture adjustments in long climbs/descents...?
After take off I note where the EGT's are during the first 1000 feet of climb. I just adjust the mixture whenever that EGT has dropped (getting richer) back to where it was on take-off. Still plenty rich, but I am maintaining approximately the same mixture as max power take-off. That makes perfect ...

Re: Float / Bush flying training in BC
CpnCrunch, MattW, praveen4143, many thanks for your feedback, greatly apreciated... :) Didn't you ask this very same question back in march...??? Nope, back in March I asked about general prospects in bush flying (nothing specific about float training, which is the topic of this post...) I do...

Re: Learning to fly in a taildragger: historical
So basically, starting the take-off roll, any correction, to be effective, has to be "full rudder" left or right. Interesting statement. I was taught to use rudder to prevent or/ and control yaw by identifying the start of yaw. When training pilots I do not allow them to use excessive rudder in put...

Re: "British Airways: All flights cancelled amid IT crash"
"A BA spokeswoman told us: "On Saturday we experienced a power supply issue at one of our UK data centres. We have been very clear that this was a UK data centre, operated by UK staff. The issue is in no way related to any work being conducted by Tata Consulting Services. We are conducting an exhau...

Re: Learning to fly in a taildragger: historical
"kick the hell out of .." Bizarre .. I can't imagine any aircraft where you should kick the hell out of any of the controls including old tail draggers and I can't imagine that technique being successful. What was he flying that demanded such aggressive rudder use? Obviously the "kick the hell out ...

Re: Category 1 with past marijuana use?
Both the pro-weed and the anti-weed people are guilty of spreading fake facts. Agreed. Sadly, pot has become so politicized that science has been thrown out of the window. There seems to be nothing out there but biased studies (either way) and personal opinions on what's right or wrong. If you smok...

Re: Category 1 with past marijuana use?
I did a category 1 medical exam today and was asked if I used marijuana (specifically), to which I answered yes (my morals and stupidity took over). My AME was unsure of what that meant for my medical and told me it would be passed on to a "head" examiner and i would receive a letter from him/her. ...

Re: Category 1 with past marijuana use?
I doubt that I know a pilot who hasn't smoked marijuana. Never did, never will. I'm not a degenerate and I don't believe I'm alone in this industry. I thought it was just me... (seriously...) Once at the office (different industry, nothing aviation-related), I commented to a co-worker (whom I consi...

Re: Learning to fly in a taildragger: historical
I let a friend who has thousands of hours in old tail-draggers, fly my Grumman AA1A. His theory on rudder use was kick the hell out of it during t/o and ldg and he tried that with my wee beast..needless to say we were all over the bloody runway.. I know exactly what you mean... Glad to know I wasn'...

Float / Bush flying training in BC
Hello all... I'm considering getting back to aviation after 30+ years, and the dream is to fly bush / floats (you can read my whole sob story here if you wonder: http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=115297 ). I'd like to do it all from scratch (PPL+CPL), just to be sure I didn't forge...

Re: Learning to fly in a taildragger: historical
Like the old Pussy Cat above I instructed on many types of taildraggers over my 60+ years of flying and I prefer one to the other type with the training wheel under the nose. Barney Why exactly...? I'm not disagreeing, I learned to fly in a J3 and have no complaints at all, but, specifically / scie...

Re: "British Airways: All flights cancelled amid IT crash"
Not sure about the technical details yet, but I find interesting Alex Cruz (BA's CEO since April 2016) background... Summarizing from http://www.bbc.com/news/business-40082634 , we learn that: British Airways' boss Alex Cruz has "unashamedly always had an eye on costs". Joined BA as chairman and chi...

Re: "British Airways: All flights cancelled amid IT crash"
I used to work for a satellite broadcaster. We had a Cummins diesel generator on site, and a whole room full of lead-acid batteries with inverters to carry the load until the generator reached speed and kicked in, in the event of a power outage. The one time they tested the interruption-proof syste...

Re: "British Airways: All flights cancelled amid IT crash"
Power supply issue of some kind. https://www.engadget.com/2017/05/27/british-airways-it-failure-hits-london-airports/ That is bizarre... Most small business with some kind of computer network would have UPSs (Uninterruptible Power Supply units) precisely to prevent disruptions to the network if the...

Re: Learning to fly in a taildragger: historical
I did my PPL in small-town Brazil in 1982, in a 1940s Piper J3 (and its Brazilian-made cousin, the Neiva Paulistinha), which were pretty much the standard Brazilian trainer aircraft in those days. I never had any "close-call" and never heard of any accident or incident while I was there. The PPL req...
