When I convert to FAA do I still keep my Canadian CPL or it becomes US license ?

Does anyone know what the procedures are to get IFR rating in the US for a Canadian commercial

Yes I'm Canadian with Canadian CPL just not sure if foreign experience is recognized same as if I was to fly here.

Thanks for the amazing feedback and ideas. I do understand about first 500, 1000, 1500 etc. I'm an ambitious 46 year old and I know I'll get to the 1500tt and beyond.
