Re: Rottnest Island Cessna Caravan Seaplane Crash
Let's remember that there are real people involved in these events. In this case, the individual was known on the coast by many who fly there. Today isn't the day. "There but for the grace of (insert deity/spiritforce here) go I"...

Re: Quiet Quitting.
That 2 pilot/one managed plane corporate life was mine too. After 20 years in aviation it finally got me to the point of quitting… not all that quietly. I simply didn’t understand how they expected us to come to work ready and rested with the constant threat of a deployment, even after just getting ...

Re: C46's Pacific Western Airlines
Hi All. I am by far the youngest of all the posters on this thread, based on all the names being thrown out there, and I was hesitant to post, but I thought I would since I believe in the value of sharing the stories of these times and people gone by. Thanks to my mentors and friends in Gene Storey,...

Re: Jazz Captain upgrades Continue 2017
Hi all, I am really considering applying. I have spent 16 years in the industry exploring all kinds of flying to make sure that when I go to the airlines I have a really good idea of what else is out there, so I am sure I am making the right decision. I am wondering though about YUL as a base? Is it...

Collins FMS 3000/ProLine 21 above 73 Deg N...
Hi there,
I have some questions regarding the ProLine 21 operations in high latitudes (73 deg N and higher). If you have practical experience with this and wouldn't mind answering a few questions, could you PM me?
Thanks very much in advance,
SCM

Re: Open Mic!
It was very early morning, and we were over a layer on downwind for a northbound landing at YXD many moons ago. It was an empty aircraft save myself on company travel and as a low-timer I was up front peering into the cockpit as the obliging pilots answered my many questions. The city lights were gl...

Re: College of pilots
Could one of you who has mentioned it quote a written source or meeting at which the requirement for a university degree was mentioned? I have been following this for quite a while now as well but I never heard that part (or at least don't remember hearing it).
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Beaver CF-OCY Seal Cove, Prince Rupert
OCY is #79 I think. OCZ rounded out the OC's at #100 on the dot. OCZ was the straightest flying Beaver I have flown to date. Not the fastest, not the smoothest and kinda heavy, but you could let go and fall asleep in that thing after setting course and it would fly you right over your destination li...

Much like DanWEC;
I have 2 bikes (through an interesting twist of fate) and I love them both. I love taking long trips on gravel roads into the sunset to find secluded fishing spots and being able to carry all my paraphernalia with me when I go.

Re: Turbine licence requirements?
..so the answer is no, you don't need a separate license to operate a turbine engine. It's just a kind of engine. In many ways more foolproof than a high performance piston engine. Licensing is most commonly predicated on aircraft weight, number of people on board, number of crewmembers required, a...

Re: What to Buy....?
ArcticKat; Everything everyone has said so far is pretty much gospel, but reading it, I do feel that there is an overtone of "don't do this, just fly commercially and save yourself the hassle". Even with that being said, that's what I do - I personally wouldn't buy an airplane as a method of transpo...

Roam82 (and others that may be legitimately wondering)... First, if you pay up front for your training, you are making your own bed; be prepared to lie in it. If you are signing an agreement to pay for costs agreed upon, should you leave early, be prepared to honor that agreement, should there be no...

Re: YELLOW SIDE UP... U EVER FLOWN A FOUND ?
Yeah, I flew them - the old ones. SOO and SVD. They were water lovers, but then again we were at 3000'ASL. I liked it. 4 doors, big cabin, good engine, I actually really liked the flap handle set up top like that. They were no beaver, but they were easier getting into, out of, and loading than a sma...

Just a note; The letter posted way back states that AGL is defined as Above Ground Level, and includes water, vegetation, etc (paraphrased). If anyone got stuck with this, here is the LEGAL (quoted directly from the CARs) definition of AGL: " "AGL" - means above ground level; (AGL) " That is the leg...

My condolences to the family and friends of the victims of this latest Beaver crash. Re: Not Ice Pilots--for sure
He He. Interesting. Incidentally, I wonder what Cessna's involvement is - I mean we can all tell it's a Cessna aircraft, but the general public would be clueless of that fact (except that to them a small airplane is automatically a Cessna) if it weren't for the massive and very visible Cessna should...

Ah ol' 927, formerly the Rainbow Warrior. Is it still all beat up on the inside? I know they made the outside conform with the purple tail etc, but she was pretty ratched up on the inside from the nighttime cargo runs back in the day. SCM As for pet peeves... Edo's point is a good one, and for the discussion about making only left hand turns, I have it on good authority (from an Fsser in YYE who was training a new guy at the time) that the right turn thing is legal, but as someone has said here before, ONLY if the aircraft is not flying the entire cct ri...

While we're picking videos from this site, here's one of me and my colleagues on a typical day at the office. A little repetetive, but it gives you all a good idea of how my job is.
This is my day job. I fly 1900's on the side for some excitement.
Enjoy!

My dream s/e 4place personal floatplane has always been the following. A C-170 B (big flaps) with the horton stol kit, and the rare 210hp IO 360 conversion (incl constant spd prop) on EDO's. This gives you an upgross to 2500lb, a climb rate of 1000fpm with two people and 3/4 gas and some junk for a ...
