Re: Being Bullied!
I was going to start a thread on this, but I see there is a similar one already started. I'll try my best to leave the names and locations of this company out. For all new pilots wanting to start in aviation, I have a few words of advice. Know what you're getting into! I went for this new job at a f...

I used the IPM and the Aerocourse workbook. I got a good mark just reading that.

Re: Stay in YHM or head to Cornwall for the intial MIFR ?
I did my initial training in Cornwall for MIFR. One good thing is they get you done. I told them I needed the ride completed by a certain time because my INRAT was about to expire and they were accommodating. I walked out of there 1 day before my INRAT expired. so two thumbs up to cornwall for that....

Re: New CPL - how long did it take to find your 1st job?
less than 1 month after CPL and Multi IFR - RAMP less than 1 month after Instructor rating - Full time Instructor If you have what the employers want then you'll be picked over someone who still needs training. Luck and Good timing is everything. I went door to door until someone hired me. Bring som...

Re: Conestoga College, Algonquin College, and Brampton Fligh
Sault and Confed I think are the way to go. BFC used to run the Algonquin Program and then pulled out because lack of business. I've heard good things about BFC. I heard that the success rate at Algonquin is dropping. Im not sure what the case is here. Either the students are having too much fun liv...

Thanks for the reply Big Pistons Forever. As we have seen before on this site, people should be looking up cars. Re: Freelance Instruction
Thanks for the help. Someone told me that I might need to get a hold of TC and let them know things like.... Type of A/C, Reg, time period and what type of training was being done prior to starting. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Freelance Instruction
Just looking for Insurance and Training feedback I have a friend who owns a Piper Colt and wishes to get his night training done on it. I am a Class 3 Instructor who is able to provide this training. This will be the first time that I am providing freelance instruction and I want to make sure that I...

I agree with Hedley... Sometimes driving the distance to a cheaper location is worth the savings.. And who wants to fly 10NM (ONE WAY) or more to a practice area, when you can get there almost instantly.

Re: Career change advice needed
Honestly.. Thats a huge step. I agree with Hedley. Take it at a good pace. Keep your job and build hours instructing on weekends or evenings. Once you have enough hours, move on to something steady. The airline industry is SLOWLY picking up. There used to be lots of hiring a few years ago, but it se...

Re: Markham Flight Training
It really doesn't matter where you go. These flight schools are all governed by TC. If a school closes, all you do is take YOUR PTR and bring it to another school to continue your training.
I wouldn't pay anything up front, especially if you think it might not be able to stay in business.

Re: CPL Cross-country flight questions
Just make sure its not just 300NM. . . Make sure you go somewhere you'll want to go and spend the night in. I did mine from Pembroke - Rivier du Loup. I regret not going the extra miles to party in Halifax or someplace fun.
Fly somewhere cool, with lots of girls, bars, and food.

Self Study. You'll know when you're ready.
I used the . and the Flight Instructor guide.
Know the Theory and the Teaching techniques and what to do with different students. Basic stuff.. Easiest written I ever did. Similar to the PPL

I started my instructor rating with Glenn. Learned a ton! I doubt you'd be able to get him anymore. He does the Flight tests for the instructor rating now.
However Alan in Cornwall is a class 1. and you'd have Glenn as a resource.
