Re: What happened to 122.75?
I always thought that 122.75 was air to air in Canada. Have had other pilots look at my strangely though when I suggested it! Did some looking b/c couldn't recall where I've seen that... For one, check out Nav Canada's RCO Brochure: https://www.navcanada.ca/EN/products-and-services/RCO/RCO-Brochure-...

Re: Help: Im stuck and can't decide what to do
Good to put some thought into this. I have lots of experience with post-secondary education having several degrees in sciences and having taught both university and college. Less experience flying only having recently taken it up as a hobby ~200 hr PPL/float etc. The big question is what do you want...

Re: external load on C172 on floats - porta bote
Heh. Maybe pictures of 4 people!! No was 4 ppl in the boat. In this case Two planes. The back seat is out and collects a lot of dust during float season! Some day might get a bigger plane but I think 4 ppl and boat is getting into 206/beaver territory! Taking multiple trips sounds more fun! Fly more...

Re: external load on C172 on floats - porta bote
This is the first I’ve heard people suggesting external load on a 172. Pretty sure it would do it, just don’t hear much about it. I suspect along the lines of no STC for it and possible insurance issues. Couple people have run large canoes on Murphy rebels etc so I’d think a 172 would be similar. I’...

Re: 3 dead, 2 uninjured in NWT
Yes, I believe so. Should remain floating indefinitely unless floats have significant damage. All openings on top would be underwater but upside down. Shouldn't fill up. And if I'm not mistaken, a single float has sufficient buoyancy to float the entire plane (in this case it would sit low in the wa...

Re: Accident near North Bay
Apologies for heresay, but apparently there was a pretty hard water landing the day before. The gear etc was inspected and no damage found. Not saying that was the cause but it failed where the attachment would have been stressed by that event. Wing was found in the bush otherwise with minimal damag...

Re: Thinking about plane purchase
Depends on what you want to do most of the time. Training and flying light with 2 ppl, you don’t need either. But if loaded weight goes up, you want bigger floats first, believe me!! As I said above, went from Cap2000s to aqua 2200s this year. A couple months since my last post and I can say with mo...

Re: Float Plane Insurance
When I bought my plane it was on wheels but had floats. I changed it over and insurance covered me for my float endorsement at no extra cost or expectation from them. So I guess it depends on your insurance company. I've heard the 25 hrs from others, but didn't apply to me. My rate has been more or ...

Update with some more information. Citabria on floats. Likely no more news on cause until the TSB report comes out.

Re: Plane Crash between North Bay and Sudbury
Still not a lot of details, not the outcome I like to hear though. I know it was windy/gusty at that time as I was in a boat in the area but the weather was clear. From news online: West Nipissing Police Chief Raymond St. Pierre said a "small floatplane" went down Sunday afternoon in the bush near D...

Re: Maintenance costs-engine size
I agree with Tanker299, the performance isn't that far off. But I disagree on cost, it is pretty different!! But depends what you want to do. I fly an 0-320D2J 160hp 172M on Aqua2200 floats (formerly CAP2000s). Very happy with it for what I want to do (which is mainly afford to own a plane and use i...

Re: Thinking about plane purchase
Sounds like you're in the same place I was a couple years ago. I ended up getting a reasonably priced 172 on floats/wheels to finish my flight training. Did primary training on wheels then onto floats for rating. I also frequently dream about a larger plane like a 180 for more versatility... And hav...

Re: PPL Online Ground School
I agree. I recently did my PPL groundschool with them and received 95% on the TC written exam. I don't think I watched more than a couple of the videos. Just worked through their written presentation material and the practice quizzes. There is a lot of material and it's very thorough. I wouldn't bot...

These are the stories I like to hear about. Pilot survived emergency landing in heavy bush. Not much detail but could have been much worse!

Re: Prepared? Lifejackets.
I have a couple of the switlik vests. Not cheap but they are nice. Have the all pax, which is a great fit for adults or my young son. Hard to find manual inflation vests for youth. I have the "x-back basic" for myself, which has two pockets. One pocket has my SPOT messenger (and often cellphone in z...
