complexintentions: Ease up! I said I have learned from the responses on this subject discussion and have a broader perspective now. If it provided food for thought to those going through the hoops, then it will either strengthen their resolve to continue, or open their minds to other possibilities. ...

Yes, but is a balance not possible, somehow? Is being miserable at work helping your family or your own health?

I had guys working with me who I thought of and considered my partners. But they never believed it. Somehow I dragged those bastards every step of the way for ten years. I'm not saying they didn't work, but they made my work harder in outrageous ways. When they finally engineered my ouster from the...

I wrote initially because I have friends who are trying to reach the "dream" of making a good living at the job of being a pilot - yet they are miserable, for the most part, held together only by the companionship of others trying to reach the same dream. They are mostly in debt to pay for the hours...

How I broke free - ending

I enjoyed the banter yesterday - it was fun and civil and good food for thought.

Good luck!

What I'd like to know is, why are you trying to pull others along with you? This is an aviation forum, not a get-out-of-aviation forum. It seems that you're just trying to help others and to spread the benefit of your experience, which is very noble of you, but I wouldn't expect a good audience amo...

Sorry Lostinrotation for mixing you up with Yoyoma about the jobs thing. I'm just getting used to the forum. Where did I say I was unhappy with being an RN? I'm very happy with the work.

Reply to bater: I liked your thoughtful reply about the value of the experiences along the way, but they will happen no matter what we do. My point is, once again, that the industry is an unstable business and poorly paid for many many years. Who knows when, if ever, one can reach the "dream." It's ...

You may laugh, but one day when you're in trouble and need a nurses soft touch AND EXPERTISE, you'll be singing a different tune. Macho men are good too, when the situation calls for that sort of activity, but my point is that the aviation business is dysfunctional, insecure, unstable, and full of m...

Obviously my choice of work is not for everybody, and I never thought it might be. Also, you shouldn't assume that all RN's work in a hospital, there are many opportunities in the field for advancement into other areas. Of course there's some sacrifice, but it's not all sacrifice, not at all.

How I broke free

I got side tracked there with the responses to the original posting. Here's how I did it. I re-trained as a nurse and I am now a fully qualified RN. I know it's not for everybody and it's certainly a long way from aviation, but I enjoy it, the work is rewarding and always in demand. I found the stab...

I don't believe in the sacrifice, sacrifice, sacrifice approach to life, but in the creative approach - you'll never dig yourself out of a hole by digging the same hole deeper.

Yoyoma wrote: "I've been out for 4 years now and still slaving and chasing stability, money and a family life!" What's the feeling you're after that you cannot get doing something else where you are treated like a human being, instead of someone to be hired and let go at the whim of an industry that's severely dysfunctional? That some are willing to buy PPC's is only a symptom of their desperation and unwilli...
