Re: New Journey Log procedures

What I have done in the past is to transcribe at minimum the last two entries from the old log book into the new log book to maintain continuity. In addition to this, if there are any deferred maintenance items, this is entered as well, along with the date or air frame time of the next required insp...

Re: British NVQ's in Canada, are they valued?

Your best bet would be to contact Transport Canada directly. Unfortunately, I think at best you may get a reduced apprenticeship time based upon documented experience, but you will still need to complete a Transport Canada approved basic training program.

This. :smt023 Get as much experience as you can; don't think the world owes you anything; be respectful to those who have gone before; have a desire to learn and do the jobs that no-one else seems to want to do; and lastly at the end of the shift, wipe down the plane before putting her to bed, run a...

Re: Automotive tech with some questions

How do replacement parts work in aviation? is it a bunch of aftermarket garbage that rolls out of China? or is a quality stuff built by the OE manufacture? or does it depend on what type of operation that you work for? Any replacement part in aviation requires certification and shall be the same as ...

Re: How long does it takes to fill up my AME logbook?

The time required to fill your AME logbook can vary greatly depending on the company you work for. You will require completion of at least 70% of all applicable tasks in the logbook. If you end up in a company that treats you poorly and only gives you crap jobs, hangar maintenance and cleaning to do...

Re: PT6A-28 fuel nozzle flow test rig

When I used to do them, we used the same setup that you describe above. The only difference is we would spry underneath an "explosion proof" exhaust fan. It helped, but you still smelled like varsol for the rest of the day...

Re: TBO 2000?

Approved Maintenance Sched & -H2AD engines are very subjective items .. I ran several -H2AD engines / almost all to TBO. But I had to pull & inspect the hydraulic lifters every 50 hrs. If your aircraft is a summertime queen with a conscientious pilot and lots of tender-loving care .. I can easily u...

Re: contact cleaner

Cleaning the mail end is straight forward but the female end is the challenge. Is there any tool for scrubbing the interior of female socket? Has anyone made something that's not too aggressive to cause damage? Perhaps a pipe cleaner or small bottle brush? https://www.qiannipicture.com/pic/Uploadfi...

A little more guidance material. From the Lycoming Overhaul Manual... 9-25. IDLE SPEED AND MIXTURE ADJUSTMENT- (Except Simmonds FuelInjector). See figures 9-1 and 9-2. With engine thoroughly warmed up, check magneto drop- off. If the drop- off is excessive, check for fouled plugs. If drop- off is no...

Re: TBO 2000?

Our maintenance schedule approval allows us to run our O-320-H2AD and IO-360-L2A engines to 2200 Hours. At this time cylinder compression are generally around 75/80 to 78/80psi with low oil consumption. We likely could run them much longer. Also keep in mind that a very high time engine may not yiel...

Re: Idle Mixture

Idle speed and mixture adjustments are generally outlined by the air frame manufacturer. Generally, once the engine is at normal operating temps and at idle RPM, mixture control is slowly and smoothly pulled to ICO position and the rise in RPM is noted and returned to the Full Rich position before t...

Moderate and severe corrosion (blistering, flaking, pitting) may be removed by heavy sanding or grinding, and applying chromic acid. No more than 1/3rd the t...
