Re: Coffee Mug Search for 737
The Yeti Rambler 10oz/280ml fits in the 737 cupholders. It really doesn't hold very much liquid, but it stays hot for hours and hours.

Re: Sunwing hiring update
Here’s 1 question for the last 2 posters. Why chose Sunwing over Westjet, AC, Swoop, Flair, Jazz or Porter? Super long sectors and long average days means very few days worked. My block is usually 12-15 days a month, and I'm fairly junior in base. Fun layovers and you'll get to know lots of your co...

Wanted: Block time in Southern Alberta
I'm looking for block time around Calgary to finish off my ATPL. I need about 45 hours, all day VFR.
Thanks in advance!

My understanding is 10 Euro wet-lease airplanes this summer, with a couple bases doubled.

Re: Flying into Fairmont hot springs airport
I was in there a few years ago in a light GA airplane. Fairly straightforward, decent avgas prices. Call ahead to the number in the CFS so they know to expect you. If memory serves there's an RNAV onto 33. It can get very busy with firefighting helicopters in the summertime. 20min walk into town or ...

Offstrip Spots in Southern AB/BC
I'm wondering about buying a small plane with big tires, but I wouldn't know where to take it. Does anyone have suggestions on spots in Southern Alberta or Southeast BC I could head for a weekend of plane-camping? The other plan is to head up to the Yukon/NWT and have some fun, but that in itself is...

Re: Navajo lands on the street in yyc
No reported injuries and the airplane looks undamaged. With the amount of power lines, traffic lights and vehicles on that road this looks like a well executed, or very lucky landing, regardless of the prior situation.

Per flying hour. Usually, they would do about 60 hours per 2wks.

They were paid $38/hr or $42/hr, depending on experience.

Re: Did we reach the next phase of the pilot shortage?
Where I used to work, more than half the instructors turned over in the past year, mostly those who could teach Multi and IFR. Several Class 1 instructors either retired or left. Students are now on a very long waiting list to get MIFR instructors. No real solution in sight, there's nobody around to...

Re: C172 Cruise Performance and temperature
The engine performs better because the air is denser when it's cold. Same effect as if you go to a lower altitude. If you look at the standard temperature but change the PALT, you'll see that lower also means more fuel burn. Same concept. It's important to realize that the better performance doesn't...

Re: What kind of watch do you wear?
I wear the Seiko E6B one. I used the E6B once for planning, but it's cool for figuring stuff out like driving time... The real benefit is having local and UTC time.

Re: Pilot shortage, how long?
So guys with 600 hours are going from the north to Jazz and the likes now? I'm not sure about Jazz, but I know Porter has contacted a few of my colleagues. I do know that ~600-700 gets you into GGN as an instructor, likely the same story from the north. As far as I can tell, 600PIC in a 172 doesn't...

Re: Pilot shortage, how long?
Even if they can find 200 hour pilots for the entry-level jobs many are upgrading to a Dash-8 or CRJ rather than stick around to get into the left seat of a King Air/whatever. I know some guys who went up north into a flying job four or five months ago with fresh ink, and they're already getting "p...

Re: CBC: Pilot shortage
The training those cadets get is a lot different than the training a pilot in a Canadian flight school gets Well then why don't the two majors start running their own zero-to-hero programs? It's clear they have the profits to do so. WJ's record-setting load factors are going to drop like a rock whe...

They've posted a few ads in the past few days for DHC-2 on floats and wheels, and pretty well every one of their aircraft.
Does anyone have current info about the working conditions? Any negative things to say? I gather they're a reasonably new company.

Re: CBC: Pilot shortage
The big guys in Europe put cadets into airliners and do not seem to suffer all that much. Hey, I don't like it, but it is a road well traveled.
