Re: North Cariboo vs CMA
Quote:”My impression is that NCA pays good but treats pilots like shit. CMA pays shit but treats their pilots good. Pick your poison.” I have worked at both places, your impression is wrong. In fact,it is the absolute opposite. CMA pays shit and treats their pilots (specifically FOs) even worse than...

Re: Air Transat Augmentation rules
+1
We aren't necessarily scheduled for a 14+ hr duty day when augmented. Many times they will schedule a third pilot just in case. Ie: yyz - San Jose winter time sometimes comes in at less than a 14hr duty day but they almost always augment it.

Re: Air Transat Phone Interview
Last I heard they are looking for ATPL, 3000 hrs. I have heard of people getting a call with less but they didn't make it past the interview. What flavour of aircraft isn't the focus. As long as it is multi-turbine/jet, multi-crew.

Re: Upgrades
Not sure what it is at AT but I doubt it would be any less than 5-8 years. And rightfully so. Frankly, it scares the crap out of me to think there is some young relatively inexperienced Captain at the helm of a large airliner. And by that I mean someone with less that 5000 hours and at least a handf...

Re: Air Transat hiring and Groundschool 2015
310. They know that most applicants will not have any experience in the aircraft so the sim eval will be very straight forward. Takeoff, steep turn, intercept radials, using RMI, capturing a loc and glideslope. Only the take off and steep turn is hand flown, the rest using AP. They will give a thoro...

Re: Air Transat hiring and Groundschool 2015
Has anyone heard any news about upcoming course dates, sizes and aircraft? Not sure how many are in the pool, but I imagine that several of the spots will be scooped up by some of the good folks at Canjet that were layed off. Last rumour I heard was a May course but like most things on this website ...

One valuable resource I have always used is pilot gouges. Just Google 'aviation pilot interview gouge' or air canada pilot interview gouge or transat interview gouge. The search will turn up dozens of examples the airlines use, most will be transferable to what ever operator you're going for. Good l...

Re: Medevac Pilot Career
I like my job. I work for a company that specializes in medical transport all around the world. Only some of it is time sensitive medevac. Most of it is all about moving quickly and efficiently, still focussing on safety. I get to have a beer in every continent and do exactly what I signed up to be ...

+1 for PM'ing me info on rotation schedule & lifestyle. I'm interested in if it will be worthwhile leaving my current gig, which I like very much but will burn me out in the very near future. I respect the company's request not to divulge private information, I am only looking for sched info. The re...

+1 Rayban & Whitey. Definitely one of the better outfits out there. Still miss it to this day. Not many places operators out there that will invite you and a dozen workmates to an all inclusive weekend on the owners houseboat. Just for poops 'n gigs. Some of the finest pilots that I have had the pri...

Re: Can the public access your pilot career details?
Well said, Gino. Perhaps I am somewhat biased toward my pal, but when I heard the 'reasons' why he failed I couldn't help but to think there was a failure in the system rather than a failure in the individual pilot. I won't get into the reasons why, however from what he told me it was purely being i...

Can the public access your pilot career details?
Was talking to a buddy that got canned from a 705 operator as he failed a couple ppc check rides. Now he's looking for a job, has had a couple successful interviews but nothing happening afterward. Has plenty of time, great looking resume, but no-one's touching him. He's got a theory why he can't fi...

can someone refresh my memory with regards to IFR renewal... I seem to remember something about being able to renew it once in the sim then the next time it has to be in a plane. if in the sim, can I just do it at a flight school's sim if it is a certain level (ie: level c)

Re: Central Mountain Air
Another interesting point is that CMA just bought out Hawkair and all their DHC-8's. Not sure what's going to pan out with all this but it could either be a great time to get in with the movement onto the Dash or a crappy time if they offer HA's old pilots a spot on CMA's roster.

Re: Central Mountain Air
There is some truth to this. Generally speaking, they won't consider you for a flying position if you have any less than 1000 hrs tt, m-ifr etc and your samron/samra exams written. They will consider you for a ground position (which includes working in their offices, ramp, dispatch, etc) if you have...
