Re: Westjet Braking Action Report
Yeah I was a bit snippy...but braking action reports are useful. It's not always feasible to run a friction report between contaminate removal and arrivals. You would look pretty stupid if you landed your heavy after a nil or poor report and ended up in the weeds because you decided to base your dec...

Re: Westjet Braking Action Report
He doesn't know where he gets JBI reports because he's just started on a new aircraft type and cannot resist the temptation of telling everyone about it despite the fact that he knows very little about it. I don't know why some people think it's so important to look cool on the internet.

I was in a similar situation, bit the bullet, did the ATPL and was called for an interview shortly after. I had the PIC time though. Good luck getting home.

Anyone know the difference between FIP and SDP in terms of what they actually do?

Re: Pilot in the Canadian Forces
One of the big detractors that guys seem to mention is the requirement to complete ground tours. FWIW, in the transport community if you don't mind alternating between operational tours and training tours (Harvard II instr/King Air instr) you can keep flying as long as you like.

Getting into AC is like winning the lottery!! A $37000 lottery. With the experience you guys have you must be making a decent salary? How do you guys plan to survive financially for the first few years at AC? How long will it take to get back to your current pay? Don't mean to sound disrespectful. ...

Re: CANADIAN FORCES FLIGHT TRAINING : QUOTA ??
No.
Ideally every candidate would meet the standard. The CF needs more pilots and it's normal to wait for an OTU. No one fails due to a quota and hopefully nobody passes due to a quota either.

Re: Hercules hard landing in Afghanistan - photos . . .
Btw, there's no such thing as an "emergency" by losing one of your four engines, unless, of course, you have no bloody idea what you're doing. Depends on the issue. If one of those fans doesn't fx or if pitch locks at an inopportune time it is very much an emergency especially when working with a f...

Anyone think this may be the last generation of a manned fighter? Apparently there is an unmanned F35 in the works.

Re: Canada's C-17's . . . what do they do??
757 I think you may have missed my point. I'm in the military, and I've flown commercially. Just as civil industry has benefited from military aviation, I think military aviation, particularly strategic transport, can do the same. It's a fact that military experience levels are lower than their indu...

Re: Canada's C-17's . . . what do they do??
Donald I think there's some truth to what you are saying. The military pilot/tech is nomadic, particularly those who travel through Yellowknife. I'd bet that if pilots/techs spent more than 2/3 years in Yellowknife at a time that operation would evolve into something closer to industry standard. I'm...

Re: Mil or Non Mil
Absolutley nothing wrong with joining the military with the intention of leaving after your obligatory service is up. Is it an effective way to get on with Air Canada? It absolutely can be, but is completely dependant on whether your release from the mil coincides with hiring in the civilian sector....

Re: anybody been called yet?
Anyone know what it means if your workopolis application has had three views?..other than the obvious.. Hopefully it means your application is being reviewed by WS types. I know in my case the resume would insidiously switch from 'non-searchable' to 'searchable'. So the views I'd get weren't necess...

FWIW, not all ex-mil guys are 45 with a pension. Some leave the CF at the end of their obligatory service, without a pension, and tend to be in their early thirties.

Life at 40 Grand?
Be interested to hear how recent hires are making out. Particularly, those who left 100K/year type positions to fly for Air Canada. Is the life style everything you expected? I understand the short term pain for long term gain principle, but it seems to me that the pain is becoming longer and the ga...

I disagree. Our impending order of 17 airframes is less than a drop in the proverbial bucket. Assuming the delivery schedule is 3-5 aircraft/year, I don't think the USAF would even notice. LH...granted we don't have any EW/grd attack variants but we do use ours for air drop and air to air refueling ...
