great story and pics. Just wondering now, is there bone yards around Canada that have pieces of aviation (civil and military) history laying about? I know there are lots in the states.
Supposed to be 9 months of their training over the course of the series. Might give some insight to civvies considering joining the CF with aspirations of being an 18 Driver. It should answer some questions!
Hi folks I'm going to start studying up to take the 2 Transport Canada dispatch exams. My question is, I've checked the TC internet site for the testing centres and was just wondering if those are the only places to write the exams or are there alternate places to write them?....maybe at a local FTU...
because you had such a long time off (10 plus years) before going back to flying, what exactly did you have to do to re-qualify? You didn't have to start right from scratch again, did you?
As a former member of CASARA (Ontario), the hours to be a CASARA pilot were the same (250) when I joined in 1996. As far as being an "Old Boys Club" where only a select "few" were drivers, our unit would have killed for a pilot or three who had the hours to qualify. Pilots don't need to own their ow...
So...how did the teacher's strike affect students in college aviation programs?....must have cut into some serious class and flight time? Anybody lose the year or think they will because of not enough hours etc while the strike was on?
Hey A.T. Actually, I'm going the opposite of Pilot Adam. Frames are fine the way you have it set up....everything on the menu is "right there" and doesn't have that obnoxious "flicker" after you click a link when everything including the menu is on one page. Accessing from your present menu is quick...
Check out these advanced Ultra Lights....most of them will out-perform a Cessna 150/152 and give a Cessna 172 a run for it's money. Quite a bit cheaper also. You can get some with floats
Well, I guess to put it in perspective, I was flying as a CASARA spotter in the Herc on a search in '97 (YYB). Enroute to our start point, I could hear the pilot's chit-chat over the I-Com. The Herc's skipper (his name escapes me) said....."Why should I work 40 and up hours a week, be on call 365 da...
I_Reason I think you missed MY point of the excercise. My little list of tips was intended to provide insight on what you COULD have with you at all times so you DON'T have to forage/waste energy while trying to live to fly another day. Cheers A PS.....I DO have a survival kit in my truck with above...
Hi folks After spending some time with a civilian search and rescue organization (CASARA) I can tell you that most GA/REC pilots and maybe some commercial drivers (bush) don't really think about the day they might have to "put in" and actually be prepared for what might happen. When I first joined t...
Well, to put it into perspective, at our ATB base, I believe it takes about 8 minutes to fill up a Convair or 580....so I'm sure the bigger gut on the jets would take maybe twice the time?.......kinda nice when when the prop pullers can loiter around and scoop 'n shoot for a few hours before they ha...
Hmmm...great paying job, flying for fun most of the time?....why don't you get the best of both worlds?.....get your instructor ticket and instruct on the weekends and fly during the week for fun after work
Nothing going on at McMurray Aviation? I guess that would be the only place to look at this time in Fort Crackmurray? I'll be up in the Whacky Mac this spring with forestry. Maybe a pint or three and a couple doz wings at McCraes would be in order?
I just heard on CBC news that the aircraft belonging to Robert Simms (Piper PA 22 Tri-Pacer) was found just north of Point Au Baril (North of Parry Sound, Ontario). Mr Simms had taken off on Oct 30th 1997 from a small field at Head Lake and was enroute to Elliot Lake via tracking the shoreline of Ge...
I'm actually surprised a lot more new commercial pilots don't do that. That is, not necessarily taking a whole summer, but on a weekend, plan a flight (with a 152?) that takes them to some AP's (200 to 300 mile radius?) and fly in some CV's. Builds the hours, flies you in new areas, might impress th...
