Re: Ever lose the passion? Even temporarily?
To be honest, the passion left me a long time ago. The job becomes repetitive and is not that exciting anymore. Would I ever do anything else? No way in hell. The money is still not great (gets better eventually) but I have half the month off and the lifestyle flying provides is better than most job...

Re: Pacific Coastal lashes out - today's Globe and Mail
I agree with almost everything said in the post above but just wanted to correct you on one thing. The Goose did have a GPS tracker on board. After the first Goose crash Pasco bought those units and dispatch could track the position of the aircraft online. When it was realized the Goose was missing,...

Done. I don't claim to know what happened. Just find it amazing that some dude who works at the sun figured it out before the TSB even showed up. He should be used as an expert in their investigation as he obviously has amazing powers

Re: Info on Vancouver Island Plane crash
I agree, but I will use this thread to complain about the media response. According to today's paper an "engine stall" caused the crash... WTF?? Makes you realize that the crap you read in the papers about something you DON'T know much about is not worth anything either. Just like any other accident...

Re: Cathay pushing back
I agree with Ice Man's post. With high oil prices and a struggling economy, companies are not about to start any new routes that involve leisure travellers. These are the pax that are the most sensitive to price changes. People flying for business are much less price sensitive since they have to be ...

Re: CMA Hiring First Officers
Just as a response to Anti-ice's first post. You get all the same things at Pasco (flt planning done for you, multi-day pairings etc etc) but with almost double the pay. CMA has no excuse for paying people what they do and pilots have no excuse for accepting it. Then again, we don't get spiffy hats ...

Yeah, Lanseria airport would be your best bet. There are tons of operators flying all over Africa. Off the top of my head, try Naturelink, Solenta Aviation, National Air Charters and King Air Charters. There's more so just see what you can find. Unfortunately, Joburg is not the nicest part of SA to ...

Re: Do you think Canada should boycott the Olympics?
No they shouldn't. This whole Tibet thing has been blown way out of proportion. There are plenty of injustices in the world such as Mugabe's Zimbabwe regime but everyone jumps on whatever is the trendy social cause to have, and ignores everything else. There are lots of other places in the world tha...

I have to agree with Mr. Pow. I ws steering clear of this forum for most of it coz it was starting to get on my nerves but I just have to add my 2 cents. 1900guy, seems like they could be paying you with bars of gold and fistfuls of diamonds and you'd still be bitching. Personally, I don't think 70 ...

I'm another Pasco pilot and just wanted to add my opinion. While no one at Pasco would ever do anything that we would consider unsafe, the way things are done there are definitely not always by-the-book Jazz style either. A lot of it has to do with company culture. You have to remember where Pasco c...

Yup, the wage negotiations were initiated by the pilots. not just the captains but the FOs as well. Seems like an agreement has been reached which will change the pay structure to an hourly rate (per flight hour) with a guaranteed minimum every month. It's gonna work out to a slight pay increase acr...

Well, I don't know what some of the guys in this thread are whining about. I work at Pasco and I think it's an awesome place to work. Interesting flying, good peeps and the money is better than most operators out this way. Nowadays, the advancement opportunities are pretty rapid too, especially for ...

Freelance flight instruction
Just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on how to go about being a freelance flight instructor. I'm currently working in the Vancouver area flying a mid-sized turboprop. The schedule allows some free time for a second job and, like most pilots, I could use the extra cash. My instructor rati...

Yeah, I pulled that one out a couple of days ago. The guy shows up for his first cross country and he wants to do a full stop to have some lunch, but there's no navlog, no track lines and no weather. I felt kinda evil cancelling the plane but if you don't teach it right the first time, he's not gonn...

It's not always as bad as people say
Yep One of the earlier posts in this thread hit the nail right on the head. The absolute worst thing for other instructors is the resident semi-retired guy who refuses to charge his students for ground briefings or any time outside the plane. Whenever I spend time teaching a student something, be it...
